    Tottenham 1-0 West Ham

West Ham do look to have pushed Diafra Sakho a bit closer to Andy Carroll and twice in a minute or so they nearly get beyond the final Spurs defender. Toby Alderweireld defends really well to see it out for a corner.

"West Ham will have been delighted with the first 20 minutes of this game but they need to get someone closer to Andy Carroll now. Other than from set-pieces, they haven't really threatened.

"It was a bit of a scrappy start but Spurs were perhaps the more progressive of the two sides, so they deserve their lead."

    Tottenham 1-0 West Ham

Spurs would move to within two points of rivals Arsenal with a win this afternoon and that goal has certainly led to an increase in tempo. Jan Vertonghen is the latest man to threaten with a dipping strike from 25 yards - but it's over.

    Tottenham 1-0 West Ham

So close! West Ham rock the crossbar within a minute of the restart. Mark Noble's shot is blocked, the ball ricochets up and Cheikhou Kouyate acrobatically volleys the shot against the crossbar! From the resultant corner Andy Carroll heads down and again Kouyate is close to turning it in.

Good game on the brew now...

"Harry Kane hasn't done much today but the minute the ball fell to him you knew exactly what the end result would be, A striker's finish. That is what he's on the pitch to do. One chance, put it in the back of the net.

"People might have been doubting him at the stat of this season, but it's testament to that lad's mentality that he keeps putting them away."

    Harry Kane (23 mins)

Buried! It's weak defending but Harry Kane was absolutely ruthless to dispatch his 11th goal in 14 London derbies.

Spurs work the ball nicely into the feet of Dele Alli on the fringe of the penalty area, his shot is blocked but falls for Kane with his back to goal. He rolls Carl Jenkinson far too easily and then hammers home left footed. Nearly took the net out.

"It's a fantastic save because it took an deflection on the way through. A great strike from Christian Eriksen, on his weaker side, too.

"Better from Spurs - that all came from stretching West Ham as wide as they could, then moving the ball quickly."

  8. GREAT SAVE!published at 21 mins

    Tottenham 0-0 West Ham

There we go! The first real moment of danger in the game draws a fine save from Hammers keeper Adrian.

Eric Dier receives the ball 30 yards out in a central area, he thinks about the shot but instead lays it off to Christian Eriksen and he hammers a left-footed swerving shot which forces the West Ham keeper into a flying save.

    Well struck!

Not a great deal of goalmouth action from either side so far - as you can see from the heat maps below.

    Tottenham 0-0 West Ham

Spurs seem determined not to cross the ball as they try and work an intricate triangle on the edge of the box, but Kyle Walker does then deliver a good ball which is cleared. West Ham counter at pace - for the first time - and Diafra Sakho almost finds Andy Carroll in the middle.

Is this a sign of the game thawing out?

"It's not as free-flowing as Spurs have been in their past few games. Manuel Pochettino isn't as happy as he usually is. Spurs need to be a bit more inventive when they get the ball.

"Dele Alli is playing in the hole but West Ham haven't given him half a second to control the ball."

A slow-burner, we'll call this one. Christian Eriksen sums it up with some sloppy control and the ball goes dead.

He doesn't look like he wants to be over on the left wing, and I don't blame him. Wasted out there?

"West Ham have come here with a game-plan and so far it's working. It might take a little more movement between the lines, but Spurs need to find a way to get a pattern of play going."

West Ham threaten out wide as they start to grow into the game. First, Carl Jenkinson wins a corner on their right which comes to nothing before Victor Moses beats his man and fires in a dangerous low cross which is cleared away well.

West Ham left-back Aaron Cresswell shoots high and wide from 30 yards, it's the first meaningful strike on goal of the afternoon. Spurs with a whopping 77% of the play so far.

"It looks like West Ham have started with Andy Carroll up top on his own, with Diafra Sakho out wide on the right, Victor Moses on the left and Manuel Lanzini in the number 10 position.

"Spurs have started pretty clever. They're being very careful not to lose the ball in the middle of the pitch, where West Ham have their traps set. Already they've sent a few balls long."

    Tottenham 0-0 West Ham

It is 19 years since Slaven Bilic made his Premier League debut for West Ham against Tottenham. I wonder if any of today's teams will be back as managers in the year 2035?

The length of a manager's contract may have been reduced to one game at a time by then.

Spurs are stroking the ball around neatly, Eric Dier and Dele Alli linking up well, as the Hammers keep their shape and look to hit on the break.

Son Heung-min is back in the Spurs side today and he has started on the right of an attacking trio, Harry Kane central and Christian Eriksen nominally on the left. Son almost gets away but the Hammers defence regroup and see it out.
