"I believe Gordon had a two-year contract and you're employed to qualify for the competition you're competing in. We haven't qualified from a section that third would've qualified.

"So, you've got to sit down, look through it and be honest with yourself. We've got euphoria tonight and in a way that saddens me to. We're basically celebrating failure.

"The performance tonight was good and I just think that the Scottish fans are now used to not qualifying; that they grasp onto anything and they celebrate it.

"I'm not having a go at them in any way at all, I'd just like to see us getting to a major championships.

"For me, this was the opportunity for any manager to qualify. Third place gets you a play-off spot and second place gets you automatic qualification - the best chance for any manager to qualify for a major championships. And we haven't been able to do it."

"If you think it's great just now, it's unbelievably good when you qualify. I'm very fortunate to have been to five major tournaments with Scotland..."

  4. Scotland manager Gordon Strachanpublished at 22:20 British Summer Time 11 October 2015

"I'm still enjoying the evening; the players' performance; the fans' performance and I'm going to enjoy that for a bit before I start thinking about me.

"It's wrong to be talking about me right after a game."

Strachan describes the travelling Tartan Army singing in Portugal as a "special moment".

  5. Strachan ready for 'debrief'published at 22:11 British Summer Time 11 October 2015

Despite being pressed at the post-match media conference, Gordon Strachan is reluctant to give a timeframe on when he will decide on his future as Scotland manager.

"We have a debrief now," says Strachan. "We'll see how we're getting on, see if we can progress and speak to people who are in my life - that's the management side and the family side.

"I'm so proud to be the Scotland manager; it's a great, great job to have. There's disappointments along the way, that's for sure. But I've got to say it's been a fantastic experience."

"[Scotland coach] Stuart McCall made a good point there. Before the game was like a no-win situation, no matter how many goals we scored or what we did or how we played...

"Then he said afterwards, 'we did win'. That doesn't often happen, what you've seen tonight: a team fails to qualify then 12,000 people turn up."

"This group [group D] is the most difficult group in Euro 2016 qualifying. You look at Poland, Germany, Rep of Ireland, Scotland and Georgia.

    "That's a tough, tough group."

  8. Former Scotland boss Craig Brownpublished at 21:52 British Summer Time 11 October 2015

"I watched the Scotland U21 team at Aberdeen [in 2-1 defeat by France on Saturday] and I hesitate to say it but I'm looking at them and I don't see a player ready to make the move to the national team.

"The best player was Ryan Christie and he played very well but I was disappointed with one or two of the young players."

Gabriel Robertson: Not winning in Georgia is the sole reason we are out. Look at the table. If we'd won, as it stands, we'd be in the play-off.

"The full time whistle brings the game and Scotland's Euro 2016 qualifying campaign to an end. Tonight's win was certainly convincing but realistically it does little to ease the pain inflicted by Poland at Hampden on Thursday. To be fair, the players promised a performance and they delivered.

"They now trudge across the pitch to applaud the supporters. Disappointment doesn't always bring disconnect though and the fans rise as one to show their appreciation for a squad that allowed them to believe for long spells of this campaign.

"The kilts and passports go back in the cupboard for now but they'll be dusted down late next year and once again we will allow ourselves to believe that maybe, just maybe this one will be different. Who needs France? It's all about Russia."

"Steven Fletcher's second hat-trick of the campaign. Did someone say this man doesn't score goals?"

  18. GOALpublished at 21:25 British Summer Time 11 October 2015

If you're going to score a hat-trick, why not score the third in style? Steven Fletcher flashes a thunderous left foot drive that flies into the net via the bar. Jamie Robba in the Gibraltar goal had no chance. High fives all round for Scotland's hat-trick hero.

A decent performance from Scotland, some nice stuff. So many chances, should have scored more goals.
