Scotland captain Scott Brown wants Gordon Strachan to stay on as manager despite the midfielder feeling "devastated" at missing out on the Euro 2016 finals.

"Of course, he is a great manager," said the Celtic player when asked about Strachan's future.

"He's been huge for me at club level and huge for me at international level as well.

"Since Gordon has taken over, we have got better and stronger. It has shown in a proper football team out on the park who are fighting and battling for each other and who can play good attractive football.

"But that is down to Gordon at the end of the day. There is a game to play first."

  3. Strachan cools speculationpublished at 19:17 British Summer Time 11 October 2015

In the aftermath of the draw with Poland, Gordon Strachan was reluctant to be drawn on his future as Scotland manager.

Preferring instead to focus on his players, Strachan intimated that he'll assess his position at following the Gibraltar clash.

With the Scottish FA indicating it wants him to remain in charge, the ball is in Strachan's court.

"I've got to say it's been - it is - an incredible experience..."

"There are two or three people I need to speak to and make sure everything's clear - then we'll take it from there," he said.

"I've always said 'wait to the end of the [Euro 2016 qualifying] campaign' but don't expect me to be speaking right after the game.

"There's no time limit on it but I've got to say it's been - it is - an incredible experience.

"It is a job that makes you so proud and I know during the campaign there have been many performances that have made the nation happy."

  5. Group D as it standspublished at 19:12 British Summer Time 11 October 2015

A point would only have been good enough for Scotland had the Republic of Ireland lost at home to Germany.

But Martin O'Neill's side beat the world champions 1-0 in Dublin to consign Gordon Strachan's men to fourth place in Group D.

While Strachan has sought to cool speculation over his future in charge of the national side, the players will aim to end an ultimately disappointing campaign on a high.

Has it sunk in yet? No, I didn't think so.

While Scotland's dreams of booking their place at the Euro 2016 finals have been shattered, each of the other Home Nations are already practising their French ahead of next summer's showcase.
