  1. FT: Middlesbrough 3-0 Leeds United

    Stewart Downing

So Middlesbrough close the gap at the top of the table to a single point. Leeds are left to count the cost of defensive errors and remain marooned in mid-table.

Steve Marshall's match report will make excellent reading for Boro fans.

Thanks for joining me today. Still want some more football? Well, our live text and radio coverage of Watford v Crystal Palace is under way now.

  3. Player reaction

    FT: Middlesbrough 3-0 Leeds United

Middlesbrough striker David Nugent told Sky Sports: "We got off to a fast start against Forest (last weekend) and that seemed to help us out a little bit. Today we got the two early goals which gave us a nice lead.

"Leeds came back into it in the second half, they were the better team, but Diego Fabbrini killed it off with the third.

"We were grateful for that because Leeds were coming back into the game."

  4. Player reaction

    FT: Middlesbrough 3-0 Leeds United

Middlesbrough midfielder Adam Clayton told Sky Sports: "It was far from straight forward.

"Leeds passed the ball really well and caused us problems - more than other sides have here.

"It was a lively encounter and there were a few tackles flying in, but it was played in a good spirit and we're pleased to get the win."

  5. FT: Middlesbrough 3-0 Leeds United

Some reaction on the way to Middlesbrough's 3-0 win over Leeds United...

  6. FULL-TIME

    Middlesbrough 3-0 Leeds United

Three defensive errors by Leeds, three Middlesbrough goals, three Middlesbrough points.

David Nugent netted the opener after 121 seconds and a comical own goal from Giuseppe Bellusci doubled Boro's lead before half-time.

Diego Fabbrini took advantage of Sol Bamba's slip to seal the win with nine minutes left.

Leeds will point to Mirco Antenucci's disallowed goal, with the score at 2-0, as a crucial moment in the match, but they were the masters of their own downfall at the back.

  7. Middlesbrough 3-0 Leeds United

Into stoppage time now at the Riverside Stadium, of which there will be four minutes.

  8. Middlesbrough 3-0 Leeds United

A late change for Middlesbrough as Adam Forshaw replaces captain Grant Leadbitter in midfield.

  9. Middlesbrough 3-0 Leeds United

Five minutes to go. We'll hopefully be able to bring you reaction from today's game just after full-time.

  10. GOAL (Fabbrini)

    Middlesbrough 3-0 Leeds United

Another Leeds mistake, another Middlesbrough goal, and Boro will get that fifth successive league win.

Leeds captain Sol Bamba slips as he attempts to play the ball out from the back, Diego Fabbrini accepts the gift and rounds goalkeeper Marco Silvestri before tucking the ball into the net.

  11. Middlesbrough 2-0 Leeds United

    Aitor Karanka

Aitor Karanka's Middlesbrough are on course for a fifth straight league win.

As things stand, they'll go a point behind leaders Brighton and five points clear of Reading in third. Even at this early stage of the season, that's a decent cushion.

  12. Middlesbrough 2-0 Leeds United

Middlesbrough defender Daniel Ayala is booked for a late tackle from behind on Mirco Antenucci. A free-kick in a dangerous area for Leeds - Alex Mowatt is over it.

Straight into the wall, though. Another chance comes and goes.

Luke Murphy is on for Stuart Dallas for the visitors.

  13. Middlesbrough 2-0 Leeds United

Albert Adomah's work is done - Middlesbrough bring on the more defensive minded Emilio Nsue.

An Equatorial Guinea international coming on for a Ghana international. I doubt that's happened very often in the Football League before.

  14. Middlesbrough 2-0 Leeds United

Fair play to the Leeds fans, they have not shut up at all during this match. They're doing all they can to rouse their team, but the visitors are running out of time to chip away at that two-goal deficit.

  15. Middlesbrough 2-0 Leeds United

It's not Giuseppe Bellusci's day. The Leeds centre-back, scorer of a first-half own goal, tries a speculative pass out to the left touchline with the outside of his boot and succeeds only in finding the chest of Boro's Albert Adomah.

Boro substitute Diego Fabbrini then picks up a cheap yellow card for a cynical trip on near the halfway line.

  16. Middlesbrough 2-0 Leeds United

After Middlesbrough clear a corner, Boro midfielder Adam Clayton shows his combative side to earn a free-kick and ease some of the pressure on the hosts.

  17. Middlesbrough 2-0 Leeds United

    Middlesbrough v Leeds

It's been a spirited second-half display, but Leeds are unable to find the breakthrough they need to get back into this one.

Middlesbrough appear content to soak up pressure and hit Leeds on the break, and they're doing it well thus far - Mirco Antenucci's disallowed goal apart.

  18. SUBSTITUTION

    Middlesbrough 2-0 Leeds United

Leeds bring on Souleymane Doukara in place of Jordan Botaka. Doukara will be more of a target man up front instead of Mirco Antenucci, who has moved into a wider position.

Chris Wood is injured and not involved for Leeds today.

  19. Middlesbrough 2-0 Leeds United

Good defending by Leeds full-back Gaetano Berardi. With Stewart Downing sniffing around him, Berardi puts the ball behind for a corner.

  21. Middlesbrough 2-0 Leeds United

That decision looks like it's fired Leeds up. Certainly Mirco Antenucci, who gave the referee's assistant a piece of his mind immediately after that goal was disallowed.

Leeds head coach Uwe Rosler doesn't look best pleased on the bench, either.

Antenucci almost gets on the scoresheet as Jordan Botaka's excellent cross finds him unmarked 12 yards out, but the striker plants his header straight at Dimi Konstantopoulos.

  23. DISALLOWED GOAL

    Middlesbrough 2-0 Leeds United

Ooh, big controversy. Leeds striker Mirco Antenucci is denied by the offside flag.

Antenucci gets on the end of a deflected shot and scores from close range, and initially the goal is given. But the officials have a chat and then it's ruled out. Television replays show it's a very, very close call.

Meanwhile, Christian Stuani is replaced by Diego Fabbrini for Middlesbrough.

  24. Middlesbrough 2-0 Leeds United

    Alex Mawatt

Having previously had only a couple of tame efforts to keep out, Middlesbrough's Dimi Konstantopoulos finally makes a meaningful save.

Alex Mowatt forces the Greek goalkeeper to fly away to his left to push away a curling free-kick that was heading into the top corner.

  25. Middlesbrough 2-0 Leeds United

Leeds striker Mirco Antenucci applauds a pass that sails miles over his head and straight through to the goalkeeper. The delivery into the box needs to be better than that.

  26. Middlesbrough 2-0 Leeds United

A quick counter-attack and suddenly Middlesbrough are looking dangerous. Charlie Taylor makes an excellent last-ditch intervention to prevent Albert Adomah getting a shot in on goal.

  27. Middlesbrough 2-0 Leeds United

Leeds get an early free-kick near the byline. Again, it's Christian Stuani who is the offender. Referee Neil Swarbrick gives the Boro forward what I imagine is his final warning. Any more and he'll be back in the dressing room, running the bath for his team-mates.

    The free-kick is easily cleared.

  28. KICK-OFF

    Middlesbrough 2-0 Leeds United

No half-time changes to report, and we're back under way at the Riverside Stadium.

Five things you may have missed on Saturday

    Joey Barton

Back in the Championship, Joey Barton made his Burnley debut in Saturday's defeat by Reading.

  32. Eagles set to soar?

Watford v Crystal Palace (16:00 BST)

Crystal Palace are also eyeing up a place in the top six, which will be theirs if they beat Watford today.

Palace's summer recruits are settling nicely, including Bakary Sako, who scored twice in his first two appearances for the club.

    Bakary Sako

Alan Pardew's side have lost narrowly to Manchester City and Tottenham since then, but the talent within their squad suggests there shouldn't be any repeat of the relegation scraps they've flirted with in recent seasons.

  33. Hornets buzzing in top flight

Watford v Crystal Palace (16:00 BST)

Watford won promotion from the Championship last season and much of their success was based on the goals of a potent front three - Troy Deeney, Odion Ighalo and Matej Vydra.

Ighalo netted a brace in Watford's 2-1 win at Newcastle last time out.

    Odion Ighalo

The Hornets are unbeaten at home this season and are yet to concede a goal at Vicarage Road.

A win by two goals or more today would take the Hornets into the top six.

  34. Elsewhere today...

So, Middlesbrough 2-0 up at half-time.

There's just the one Premier League game today, and it features two clubs who have started the season in fine form.

  35. HALF-TIME

    Middlesbrough 2-0 Leeds United

    Stewart Downing celebrates

Take the two goals out of this game and it's been a fairly even contest. Both sides have had spells of possession, and both sides have tested the opposition goalkeeper.

But Leeds have gifted Middlesbrough their two goals, first failing to clear a cross allowing David Nugent to open the scoring, and then defender Giuseppe Bellusci heading a cross into his own net.

If Danny Baker fancies bringing out another "Own Goals and Gaffs" video, Bellusci's own goal would be a suitable inclusion.

Much work to do for the visitors after the interval.

  36. Middlesbrough 2-0 Leeds United

Middlesbrough step up a gear as they chase a killer third goal before the interval. Fernando Amorebieta's effort is blocked, Christian Stuani's header is off target and then Daniel Ayala pokes a shot wide.

  37. Middlesbrough 2-0 Leeds United

Christian Stuani almost adds a third for Middlesbrough. The Uruguay forward races into the box and attempts to meet a left-wing cross six yards out, but can't quite get a touch to the ball.

  38. Middlesbrough 2-0 Leeds United

Leeds threaten with another counter-attack but Alex Mowatt's shot from 20 yards flashes wide of the far post.

Four minutes and stoppage time to go until the break.

  39. Middlesbrough 2-0 Leeds United

Quote Message: Without Chris Wood, Leeds are struggling. They've not gone forward enough and they've not gone over the top. There's been a few threats on the goal but nothing major. That's a dreadful mistake by Bellusci. from Adam Pope BBC Radio Leeds commentator

  41. Middlesbrough 2-0 Leeds United

    Mirco Antenucci and Grant Leadbitter

Leeds aren't out of this game at all. They've been good in this first half, apart from two defensive lapses that have cost them two goals.

  42. Middlesbrough 2-0 Leeds United

Two shots on target within a minute for Leeds.

First, Stuart Dallas fires straight at the goalkeeper from 20 yards and then Alex Mowatt does likewise.

  43. Middlesbrough 2-0 Leeds United

Just before that second Middlesbrough goal, Boro's Christian Stuani was booked for a late tackle on Leeds full-back Charlie Taylor.

  44. GOAL (Bellusci own goal)

    Middlesbrough 2-0 Leeds United

    Giuseppe Bellusci

Dear, oh dear. A nightmare moment for Leeds defender Giuseppe Bellusci as he heads the ball into his own net at the near post to double Middlesbrough's lead.

  45. Middlesbrough 1-0 Leeds United

Half an hour gone and still David Nugent's third goal of the season separates the two teams.

Middlesbrough are on course to move within a point of leaders Brighton as things stand.

  46. Middlesbrough 1-0 Leeds United

Leeds have a debutant in their side this afternoon - DR Congo winger Jordan Botaka.

He's been fairly quiet so far, although Leeds have grown into this game since David Nugent's early opener, albeit without testing the Boro goal too much.

  47. Middlesbrough 1-0 Leeds United

    Bakary Sako

A reminder that we'll have live text and radio commentary of Watford v Crystal Palace in the Premier League later on. It's a 16:00 BST kick-off at Vicarage Road.

In the meantime, Leeds midfielder Alex Mowatt is back on his feet and sporting a massive bandage on his head. These may be famous last words, but he should be easy to spot from now on.

  48. Middlesbrough 1-0 Leeds United

Leeds have their first shot on goal, and by far their best moment of the match.

A neat move sets up Mirco Antenucci, who gets the ball out of his feet before sending a tame shot into the arms of Middlesbrough goalkeeper Dimi Konstantopoulos.

A stoppage in play follows, as Fernando Amorebieta and Alex Mowatt collide while involved in an aerial challenge.

  49. Middlesbrough 1-0 Leeds United

Middlesbrough are bossing possession here, just waiting for the perfect moment to cut their way through the Leeds defence.

At the back, they look solid too. This is one strong Championship outfit.

Leeds striker Mirco Antenucci lunges in on Tomas Kalas after losing control of the ball and catches the Boro defender on the shin - perhaps a little lucky to get away with that.

  52. Middlesbrough 1-0 Leeds United

Leeds make their first meaningful attack but it ends when Stuart Dallas pushes Tomas Kalas to the floor and Middlesbrough get a free-kick on the edge of their own box.

A huge rendition of "Marching On Together" follows from the travelling Leeds supporters.

  53. Can Leeds breach the Boro defence?

    Middlesbrough 1-0 Leeds United

    Dimi Konstantopoulos

The last time Boro conceded more than one goal at home in the league was a 3-2 defeat by Sheffield Wednesday in August 2014.

Leeds will have to change that if they are to achieve a third straight away league win.

  54. CLOSE!

    Middlesbrough 1-0 Leeds United

So close to a second Boro goal in bizarre circumstances.

Leeds captain Sol Bamba attempts to chest Albert Adomah's cross back to his goalkeeper Marco Silvestri. Bamba gets too much of it, and Silvestri has to make a flying save away to his left to keep it out.

That's three goals in his last four games for David Nugent. A decent start to his Boro career for the man signed from Leicester for a reported £4m in August.

  58. GOAL (Nugent)

    Middlesbrough 1-0 Leeds United

    David Nugent scores

What a start for Middlesbrough, and it's David Nugent with the opening goal after 121 seconds.

Christian Stuani twists and turns on the right wing and puts in a cross for Nugent, who controls the ball and slams it home from close range.

  59. KICK-OFF

    Middlesbrough 0-0 Leeds United

Leeds, having broken from their pre-match huddle, get us under way on Teesside.

  62. Leeds make solid start under Rosler

Middlesbrough v Leeds United (13:15 BST)

Leeds United are 14th in the Championship at the start of play today.

    Uwe Rosler

New head coach Uwe Rosler has steadied things at Elland Road, with Leeds suffering only one defeat in their first eight games.

They've won only twice in the league, however, although those wins came in their last two away fixtures at Derby and MK Dons.

  63. Boro in top form

Middlesbrough v Leeds United (13:15 BST)

It's five wins on the spin in league and cup for Middlesbrough, who are looking like the team to beat in the Championship this season.

    Albert Adomah

Albert Adomah's brace against Wolves in midweek ensured a safe passage into the fourth round of the League Cup.

  69. Has Newcastle's McClaren staved off criticism?

    Trevor Sinclair

Former England winger on MOTD2 Extra

“It was a good performance. It’s a huge club, but it’s a difficult job how can you recruit players to the north east when the team is struggling, and players like to be in London or Manchester. Some of the clubs on the periphery need to make sure they don’t get cut off.”

  70. 'Chelsea will get there'

    Guy Mowbray

    BBC commentator at MOTD2 Extra

"I was convinced Chelsea would get something from the game at Newcastle, even at 2-0 down. Defensively is the area they have concerns. I still think John Terry is their best defender and it was a massive call to leave him out. Chelsea will get there."

  71. 'Chelsea out of 10? Minus one'

    Newcastle United 2-2 Chelsea

Chelsea fought back from two goals down to earn a point at Newcastle United, but the champions' stuttering start continues.

For a long time, it looked as though Newcastle would end their wait for a Premier League victory. They led 2-0 with 11 minutes to play, before Ramires and Willian secured a 2-2 draw.

    Jose Mourinho

Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho was furious with his side's first-half display.

"In the first half, from 0-10, we were minus one. It was that bad," he said.

"We were so poor, so bad. At half-time I said I was sorry I only had three subs as I wanted to change six."

  72. Are Villa in a relegation fight again?

    Guy Mowbray

    BBC commentator on MOTD2 Extra

"I like Tim Sherwood, he's the perfect antidote to media training. The problem with Villa is that they are in a cycle of bringing young players through and they are back at it again.

"There is a lot of new players in at once again. You can't keep doing that."

  73. Hysteria around Liverpool?

    Trevor Sinclair

Former England winger on MOTD2 Extra

“It goes with the territory. You can’t be concerned by criticism, you’ve got to expect it. I’m surprised Brendan Rodgers is even mentioning it. Liverpool should be challenging for the title.”

"If you’re going to go into management you’ve got to stick to your own blueprint, if you start changing you’ve got big problems."

  74. Are Liverpool contenders?

The Mail on Sunday's Oliver Holt on MOTD2 Extra: "I accept that Liverpool are a massive club but are they title challengers? They overachieved a few years ago with Luis Suarez. Their wage bill is fifth, the money they spend is fifth in the league, fifth is par for them. Liverpool don't have a right to finish in the top four.

"Brendan Rodgers has had to rip it up and start again. He lost Suarez, Raheem Sterling and Daniel Sturridge for a whole season."

  75. 'There's a hysteria around Liverpool

    Liverpool 3-2 Aston Villa

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers can, at last, celebrate a Premier League victory.

His side's 3-2 win over Aston Villa was their first in five league outings, while Daniel Sturridge netted twice - his first goals since March.

    Brendan Rodgers

Rodgers, who has come under increasing pressure from a section of Liverpool supporters in recent weeks, said: "There's a hysteria around the club.

"We've lost fewer games than Manchester City, Chelsea and Arsenal in all competitions - two. It's a huge club - a worldwide, iconic club - so the scrutiny on it is huge.

"The players gave everything - I am proud of them. There was a lot of focus on them but we handled it very well. We looked creative and dynamic today."

  76. Wilson injury blow for Bournemouth

    Guy Mowbray

"It would be a big blow for Bournemouth and for Callum Wilson himself. He has done it in the Premier League from moment one and let's hope there is some positive news."

  78. Wilson injury a huge blow - Howe

    Stoke City 2-1 Bournemouth

Bournemouth's2-1 defeat at Stoke City was compounded by the loss of top scorer Callum Wilson, who left the field on a stretcher early in the match.

    Callum Wilson

The Cherries have already lost defender Tyrone Mings and winger Max Gradel to serious knee injuries this season, and manager Eddie Howe admitted afterwards that Wilson's injury "didn't look good".

The former Burnley boss added: "He took a whack to the knee, thought he was OK to carry on but then collapsed.

"It looks like it could be another serious knee injury. The players have had that three times this season, losing key players with bad injuries."

  79. Down at the bottom...

    Premier League table

Sunderland and Newcastle remain without a win this season. They're joined in the bottom three by Aston Villa, who lost 3-2 at Liverpool on Saturday.

Stoke City moved out of the relegation zone with a home win over Bournemouth.

Chelsea, the side that were so dominant in the Premier League last season, are 15th. They've been down there for a few weeks now, but it still looks weird.

  80. Walcott down the middle?

    Trevor Sinclair

Former England winger on MOTD2 Extra

“I think he’s a bit limited on the wing because a full-back will show you outside and give you a lot of space because of your pace. I think Walcott up front gives them the extra dimension of being able to stretch teams. Instictively he’s a great finisher, but he’s got better and matured.”

  81. Walcott down the middle?

  82. Walcott down the middle?

    Arsenal

The Mail on Sunday's Oliver Holt on MOTD2 Extra: "I'm a big fan of Theo Walcott down the middle and I'm glad he's been given a chance. They have flirted with the idea before but now he seems to be given a real chance.

"His pace gives people problems and his goal yesterday was terrific. He finished it superbly. As he says, the more he plays there the better he will get."

  83. Sanchez fatigued by Copa America?

    Trevor Sinclair

Former England winger on MOTD2 Extra

“I think mentally more than anything, because I think he’s a fit lad. Winning the Copa America means so much and it will have taken a lot out of him. If Arsenal win the league last year he wins player of the year, that’s how highly I rate him.”

  84. Sanchez back to his best - Wenger

    Leicester City 2-5 Arsenal

Few foreign imports have made as big an impression in the Premier League as Arsenal forward Alexis Sanchez did in 2014-15.

After a subdued start to the season, the Chile international forward returned to form in spectacular fashion with a hat-trick in Saturday's 5-2 win at Leicester.

    Alexis Sanchez

"It took Alexis a while to find his form," said Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger. "He didn't come back straight away from the Copa America and after a competition like that it takes some time.

"I think he's back at his best now."

  85. Don't write off Rooney

The Mail on Sunday's Oliver Holt on MOTD2 Extra: "Wayne Rooney is often damned with faint praise. He breaks records wherever he goes. He is quality, I am surprised he gets written off as often as he does.

"It won't be long before he's back scoring often and Anthony Martial will help him."

  86. Are Manchester United genuine contenders?

    Guy Mowbray

    BBC commentator on MOTD2 Extra

"They were never not title contenders. They were always going to be up there.

"They are stronger than last year. If the reported £80m bid for Thomas Muller had come off then I would have made them favourites, I rate Muller that highly. They will be up there.

"It will be the same top four as last season - but in any order."

  87. United go top

    Manchester United 3-0 Sunderland

Manchester United took advantage of Manchester City's lunchtime defeat at Tottenham to go top of the Premier League table.

    Wayne Rooney and Memphis

Goals from Memphis, Wayne Rooney and Juan Mata gave United a comfortable 3-0 win over Sunderland, a result that took Louis van Gaal's side a point clear at the top.

"It's a nice feeling to be top of the table," said Van Gaal. "It's the first time in my period so I'm happy."

Rooney's goal was his first in the Premier League this season, while Sunderland remain bottom of the table and without a league win this term.

  88. What's Kane's best position?

    Trevor Sinclair

Former England winger on MOTD2 Extra

“He’s very similar to Wayne Rooney in the way he can link up play. If you want him to just get in the box and score goals, you are wasting a lot of his all-round play.

"As you get older you learn to be a little bit more patient, but it’s compliments to him, he wants goals and has maybe been a bit over zealous to try and get them.”

  89. What's Kane's best position?

    Guy Mowbray

    BBC commentator on MOTD2 Extra

"In time, Harry Kane will play at number 10. I want to see him score loads of goals, that's what he should be doing right now. He's been looking for that first goal, rather than playing on instinct."

  90. Kane in focus

England striker Kane netted his first Premier League goal of the season in Tottenham's 4-1 win over Manchester City.

  94. City strong at the back?

    Guy Mowbray

    BBC commentator on MOTD2 Extra

"City looked slack at Tottenham but they will be stronger defensively this season. Nicolas Otamendi will adapt to the Premier League well, Mangala looks good, Sagna is getting more games, Kompany is back to his best and Demichelis won't play too many games.

"I just wonder if the decision not to play Joe Hart at Tottenham was a mistake. We have to take Pellegrini's word for it that he was injured."

  95. City on the slide?

    Trevor Sinclair

Former England winger on MOTD 2 Extra

“It’s been a good start for Kevin de Bruyne, he looks like the real deal - sharp, mentally bright, looks like he belongs. The biggest thing is Manchester City have key players down the spine of the team, and once they’re out they struggle.”

  96. City on the slide?

    Guy Mowbray

    BBC commentator on MOTD2 Extra

"Manchester City will still be in the top two, no doubt about it. David Silva is the key - when he is missing they lose games. Manuel Pellegrini won't worry about this unduly. They have two good games for them this week and they will be back on track."

  97. City slip up at Spurs

    Tottenham Hotspur 4-1 Manchester City

A couple of weeks ago, many pundits were already crowning Manchester City as Premier League champions, so good was their start to the season.

But two straight defeats, the second of them a 4-1 loss at Tottenham on Saturday, have left manager Manuel Pellegrini with a little to ponder.

    Manuel Pellegrini

Pellegrini's cause wasn't helped by the absences of goalkeeper Joe Hart, captain Vincent Kompany and playmaker David Silva, as well as some questionable decisions from the officials at White Hart Lane.

"Two of their goals were offside," claimed Pellegrini. "I think we didn't play well in second half. The Premier League is always very difficult."

  98. Up at the top...

    Premier League table

Manchester United are the new leaders after their 3-0 win over Sunderland. Manchester City drop to second following their 4-1 defeat by Spurs, who climb to fifth.

The day's other big movers were Arsenal, who are up to fourth after their 5-2 win at Leicester.
