So Middlesbrough close the gap at the top of the table to a single point. Leeds are left to count the cost of defensive errors and remain marooned in mid-table.

Middlesbrough striker David Nugent told Sky Sports: "We got off to a fast start against Forest (last weekend) and that seemed to help us out a little bit. Today we got the two early goals which gave us a nice lead.

"Leeds came back into it in the second half, they were the better team, but Diego Fabbrini killed it off with the third.

"We were grateful for that because Leeds were coming back into the game."

Middlesbrough midfielder Adam Clayton told Sky Sports: "It was far from straight forward.

"Leeds passed the ball really well and caused us problems - more than other sides have here.

"It was a lively encounter and there were a few tackles flying in, but it was played in a good spirit and we're pleased to get the win."

David Nugent netted the opener after 121 seconds and a comical own goal from Giuseppe Bellusci doubled Boro's lead before half-time.

Diego Fabbrini took advantage of Sol Bamba's slip to seal the win with nine minutes left.

Leeds will point to Mirco Antenucci's disallowed goal, with the score at 2-0, as a crucial moment in the match, but they were the masters of their own downfall at the back.

Into stoppage time now at the Riverside Stadium, of which there will be four minutes.

A late change for Middlesbrough as Adam Forshaw replaces captain Grant Leadbitter in midfield.

Aitor Karanka's Middlesbrough are on course for a fifth straight league win.

As things stand, they'll go a point behind leaders Brighton and five points clear of Reading in third. Even at this early stage of the season, that's a decent cushion.

Middlesbrough defender Daniel Ayala is booked for a late tackle from behind on Mirco Antenucci. A free-kick in a dangerous area for Leeds - Alex Mowatt is over it.

Straight into the wall, though. Another chance comes and goes.

Fair play to the Leeds fans, they have not shut up at all during this match. They're doing all they can to rouse their team, but the visitors are running out of time to chip away at that two-goal deficit.

It's not Giuseppe Bellusci's day. The Leeds centre-back, scorer of a first-half own goal, tries a speculative pass out to the left touchline with the outside of his boot and succeeds only in finding the chest of Boro's Albert Adomah.

Boro substitute Diego Fabbrini then picks up a cheap yellow card for a cynical trip on near the halfway line.

After Middlesbrough clear a corner, Boro midfielder Adam Clayton shows his combative side to earn a free-kick and ease some of the pressure on the hosts.

It's been a spirited second-half display, but Leeds are unable to find the breakthrough they need to get back into this one.

Middlesbrough appear content to soak up pressure and hit Leeds on the break, and they're doing it well thus far - Mirco Antenucci's disallowed goal apart.

Leeds bring on Souleymane Doukara in place of Jordan Botaka. Doukara will be more of a target man up front instead of Mirco Antenucci, who has moved into a wider position.

Chris Wood is injured and not involved for Leeds today.

Good defending by Leeds full-back Gaetano Berardi. With Stewart Downing sniffing around him, Berardi puts the ball behind for a corner.
