  9. Has Newcastle's McClaren staved off criticism?published at 12:58

    Trevor Sinclair
Former England winger on MOTD2 Extra

“It was a good performance. It’s a huge club, but it’s a difficult job how can you recruit players to the north east when the team is struggling, and players like to be in London or Manchester. Some of the clubs on the periphery need to make sure they don’t get cut off.”

  10. 'Chelsea will get there'published at 12:57

    Guy Mowbray
    BBC commentator at MOTD2 Extra

"I was convinced Chelsea would get something from the game at Newcastle, even at 2-0 down. Defensively is the area they have concerns. I still think John Terry is their best defender and it was a massive call to leave him out. Chelsea will get there."

  11. 'Chelsea out of 10? Minus one'published at 12:56

    Newcastle United 2-2 Chelsea

Chelsea fought back from two goals down to earn a point at Newcastle United, but the champions' stuttering start continues.

For a long time, it looked as though Newcastle would end their wait for a Premier League victory. They led 2-0 with 11 minutes to play, before Ramires and Willian secured a 2-2 draw.

Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho was furious with his side's first-half display.

"In the first half, from 0-10, we were minus one. It was that bad," he said.

"We were so poor, so bad. At half-time I said I was sorry I only had three subs as I wanted to change six."

  12. Are Villa in a relegation fight again?published at 12:53

    Guy Mowbray
    BBC commentator on MOTD2 Extra

"I like Tim Sherwood, he's the perfect antidote to media training. The problem with Villa is that they are in a cycle of bringing young players through and they are back at it again.

"There is a lot of new players in at once again. You can't keep doing that."

  13. Hysteria around Liverpool?published at 12:52

    Trevor Sinclair
Former England winger on MOTD2 Extra

“It goes with the territory. You can’t be concerned by criticism, you’ve got to expect it. I’m surprised Brendan Rodgers is even mentioning it. Liverpool should be challenging for the title.”

"If you’re going to go into management you’ve got to stick to your own blueprint, if you start changing you’ve got big problems."

  14. Are Liverpool contenders?published at 12:50

The Mail on Sunday's Oliver Holt on MOTD2 Extra: "I accept that Liverpool are a massive club but are they title challengers? They overachieved a few years ago with Luis Suarez. Their wage bill is fifth, the money they spend is fifth in the league, fifth is par for them. Liverpool don't have a right to finish in the top four.

"Brendan Rodgers has had to rip it up and start again. He lost Suarez, Raheem Sterling and Daniel Sturridge for a whole season."

  15. 'There's a hysteria around Liverpoolpublished at 12:48

    Liverpool 3-2 Aston Villa

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers can, at last, celebrate a Premier League victory.

His side's 3-2 win over Aston Villa was their first in five league outings, while Daniel Sturridge netted twice - his first goals since March.

Rodgers, who has come under increasing pressure from a section of Liverpool supporters in recent weeks, said: "There's a hysteria around the club.

"We've lost fewer games than Manchester City, Chelsea and Arsenal in all competitions - two. It's a huge club - a worldwide, iconic club - so the scrutiny on it is huge.

"The players gave everything - I am proud of them. There was a lot of focus on them but we handled it very well. We looked creative and dynamic today."

  16. Wilson injury blow for Bournemouthpublished at 12:46

    Guy Mowbray
    BBC commentator on MOTD2 Extra

"It would be a big blow for Bournemouth and for Callum Wilson himself. He has done it in the Premier League from moment one and let's hope there is some positive news."

  18. Wilson injury a huge blow - Howepublished at 12:42

    Stoke City 2-1 Bournemouth

Bournemouth's2-1 defeat at Stoke City was compounded by the loss of top scorer Callum Wilson, who left the field on a stretcher early in the match.

The Cherries have already lost defender Tyrone Mings and winger Max Gradel to serious knee injuries this season, and manager Eddie Howe admitted afterwards that Wilson's injury "didn't look good".

The former Burnley boss added: "He took a whack to the knee, thought he was OK to carry on but then collapsed.

"It looks like it could be another serious knee injury. The players have had that three times this season, losing key players with bad injuries."

  19. Down at the bottom...published at 12:40

    Premier League tableImage source, .

Sunderland and Newcastle remain without a win this season. They're joined in the bottom three by Aston Villa, who lost 3-2 at Liverpool on Saturday.

Stoke City moved out of the relegation zone with a home win over Bournemouth.

Chelsea, the side that were so dominant in the Premier League last season, are 15th. They've been down there for a few weeks now, but it still looks weird.

  20. Walcott down the middle?published at 12:39

    Trevor Sinclair
Former England winger on MOTD2 Extra

“I think he’s a bit limited on the wing because a full-back will show you outside and give you a lot of space because of your pace. I think Walcott up front gives them the extra dimension of being able to stretch teams. Instictively he’s a great finisher, but he’s got better and matured.”
