  1. Post update

And that's everything from mainland Europe tonight. Barca's win was marred by an injury to Lionel Messi, Real Madrid could not regain top spot after being held by Malaga, while Bayern Munich's Robert Lewandowski set another Bundesliga record.

Catch up on all those continental-flavoured stories and then remember to join us tomorrow for live coverage of Italian leaders Inter Milan's top-of-the-table match against Fiorentina. Ciao!

  2. FULL-TIME

    Napoli 2-1 Juventus

However, the table is much better reading for Napoli than it is for Juventus. The reigning champions have taken just five points from their opening six matches, including three defeats. Last season? They only suffered three defeats in 38 Serie A matches...

  3. Post update

    Napoli 2-1 Juventus

But while the Napoli fans celebrate beating the Old Lady, a quick glance at the Serie A table might be a sobering thought. They are still six points behind leaders Inter Milan, who are aiming to preserve their 100% start when they play third-placed Fiorentina tomorrow.

  4. FULL-TIME

    Napoli 2-1 Juventus

All over at the Stadio San Paolo! Referee Daniele Orsato calls time on a pulsating clash - leading to rapturous celebrations from the home fans.

Napoli move into the top half with those three points, while Juve are left to contemplate their third defeat of the fledgling Serie A season.

  5. PENALTY APPEAL

    Napoli 2-1 Juventus (90+1 mins)

Penalty? Juve think so. But the referee doesn't. And I'd say he is totally right. Napoli defender Koulibaly dives to the ground to block Alvaro Morata's shot after a long ball is pumped into the home box. Morata claims Koulibaly used his hands - he didn't.

  6. INJURY TIME

    Napoli 2-1 Juventus

Three minutes, 180 seconds. That's all Juve have left to salvage a draw....

  7. SUBSTITUTION

    Napoli 2-1 Juventus (89 mins)

Another Juve change. Attacking left-back Alex Sandro sprints on - he'll play almost as winger in these final moments.

  8. Post update

    Napoli 2-1 Juventus (87 mins)

Former Juve hero Pavel Nedved - still sporting those famous blond locks - looks very stern-faced as he watches on from the San Paolo stands. His presumably Juve-supporting mate sat next to him chugs down hard on a cig. Time running out.

  9. SUBSTITUTION

    Napoli 2-1 Juventus (85 mins)

Final roll of the tactical dice by Napoli as they attempt to see out victory. Striker Manolo Gabbiadini - no relation to former Sunderland and Derby hero Marco - appears in place of Gonzalo Higuian. The home side will be hoping Gabbiadini's fresh legs can help them keep the ball up near the Juve goal.

  10. Post update

    Napoli 2-1 Juventus (83 mins)

Hurrah! Paul Pogba has learned how to head the ball, climbing highest to meet Simeon Padoin's cutback from the right byeline. However, the Juve midfielder cannot direct his effort goalwards and Napoli keeper Pepe Reina watches the ball harmlessly fly past.

  11. Post update

  12. Post update

    Napoli 2-1 Juventus (79 mins)

Still Juventus probe for an opening, but it just isn't happening for them. Roberto Pereira swings in a delicious cross from the right flank, straight onto the head of....well, it should have been straight onto the head of Paul Pogba. Somehow one of the world's most coveted players can't put his forehead on the ball and it rolls out of play for a throw-in.

  13. FULL-TIME

    Villarreal 1-0 Atletico

Villarreal's spell at the summit of the Spanish La Liga could be short-lived if Celta Vigo beat Eibar, but Eduardo Berrizo's side currently trail 1-0 in the first-half.

  14. Final fifteen

    Napoli 2-1 Juventus (75 mins)

Ticking into the final quarter of an hour at Stadio San Paolo. Juve need a goal and they need one quick. Napoli are refusing to slow down their ferocious tempo though, barely allowing the Old Lady players any time on the ball.

  15. CLOSE!

    Napoli 2-1 Juventus (73 mins)

Oooh! Alvaro Morata almost makes an instant impact. The Juve sub covers his mouth with his hands after placing a precise right-foot shot the wrong side of the Napoli post. Close.

  16. FULL-TIME

    Villarreal 1-0 Atletico

Diego Simeone revealed before the game that the nightmare scenario would see his side lose to a goal by Leo Baptistao, and the worst fears of Atletico's boss came true. Villarreal go top of La Liga, the fifth club to do so this season, thanks to the on-loan Brazilian striker scoring against his parent club.

  17. SUBSTITUTION

    Napoli 2-1 Juventus (70 mins)

Another change for Juventus as they chase the game. Here's a man who they need right now - Alvaro Morata. The Spain striker, who has been missing recently through injury, starts his comeback from the bench to take the spot of Paulo Dybala.

  18. Post update

    Napoli 2-1 Juventus (68 mins)

Mario Lemina had never scored for Juventus until tonight. Can that spark a memorable comeback from the champions? Possibly. They're playing with a bit more spark now, Paul Pogba driving forward and shooting low at Pepe Reina.

  19. SUBSTITUTION

    Napoli 2-1 Juventus (65 mins)

Juve's Brazilian midfielder Hernanes pays the price for a sloppy display - giving away possession for Higuain's goal among other misplaced passes. He is hooked by Juve coach Max Allegri with on-loan Chelsea winger Juan Cuadrado coming on.

  20. GOAL - Napoli 2-1 Juventus

    Mario Lemina (64 mins)

Wow - what a response! If Juve are heading towards another defeat then they're not going down without a fight. Seconds after Napoli's second, the Old Lady halve the gap when Mario Lemina appears at the far post to steer Paolo Dybala's deep cross past Napoli keeper Pepe Reina.

  21. GOAL - Napoli 2-0 Juventus

    Gonzalo Higuain (62 mins)

Juventus are heading for their third defeat in six games. Brilliant solo goal from Gonzalo Higuain, The Napoli striker pounces on a loose pass inside his own half from Hernanes, surges forward then buries a low angled shot under Gianluigi Buffon.

  22. Post update

    Villarreal 1-0 Atletico (80 mins)

Atletico still to fashion a clear chance in this second half, and Fernando Torres has been largely anonymous since he came on. Can the former Liverpool and Chelsea man grab his side a goal in the final 10 minutes?

  23. Post update

    Napoli 1-0 Juventus (59 mins)

Better stuff from Juventus, who are seeing much more of the ball in this second half. Paul Pogba pulls rank over a free-kick right on the edge of the Napoli penalty area...then smashes into the blue-shirted wall.

Moments later, Paolo Dybala creates some space for himself then firing a fierce angled shirt into another home defender.

  24. YELLOW CARD

    Napoli 1-0 Juventus (56 mins)

Another pair of bookings, again evenly distributed by referee Daniele Orsato. Not sure what narked him at the break, but his mood has taken a turn for the worse. He books Juve left-back Patrice Evra and then scrawls the name of Napoli winger Jose Callejon in his notepad too after far-from-brutal fouls.

  25. SUBSTITUTION

    Villarreal 1-0 Atletico (75 mins)

Tomas Pina comes on to add a bit of muscle to the Villarreal midfield as Roberto Soldado's frustration grows, after the hapless forward is flagged offside despite being in his own half.

  26. Post update

    Napoli 1-0 Juventus (52 mins)

After all that nonsense we get back down to the football. Juve defender Giorgio Chiellini attacks the delivery from the right flank but cannot keep his header under control.

  27. YELLOW CARD

    Napoli 1-0 Juventus (51 mins)

Referee Daniele Orsato is starting to dish out yellow cards like confetti. And I don't particularly think he needs to. First he books Napoli defender Faouzi Ghoulam for a late challenge on Juve's Simone Padoin. Foul - yes. Booking - no. Ghoulam had his eyes firmly on the ball and it wasn't that bad. Then the official evens up the booking count with a caution for Juve defender Leonardo Bonucci. That is for some backchat after he ventures up from the back to contest the free-kick from Ghoulam's foul.

  28. SUBSTITUTION

    Villarreal 1-0 Atletico (65 mins)

Atletico boss Diego Simeone plays his last card, Oliver Torres replaced by Angel Correa, who slots into the right of midfield.

  29. Post update

    Napoli 1-0 Juventus (47 mins)

Almost an early chance for Juve. Paul Pogba pumps forward a long ball towards Paulo Dybala, forcing Napoli keeper Pepe Reina to come charging out of his goal to stick his head on the ball. But it doesn't matter. The linesman's flag is up for offside.

  30. KICK-OFF

    Napoli 1-0 Juventus

Both sets of players are back out on the pitch at Stadio San Paolo. Napoli, wearing their traditional light blue shirts, restart the action.

  32. CHANCE

    Villarreal 1-0 Atletico (60 mins)

Nahuel Leiva is put through for Villarreal, but the substitute, on for goalscorer Leo Baptistao, stands on the ball and the chance goes begging in comical fashion.

  33. HALF-TIME

    Napoli 1-0 Juventus

  34. BOOKING

    Villarreal 1-0 Atletico (52 mins)

Villarreal striker Roberto Soldado earns a yellow card for talking out of turn to the referee, as he demands more protection after being on the receiving end of a tasty challenge or two.

  35. HALF-TIME

    Napoli 1-0 Juventus

Phew. What a half! This match was highly anticipated by Italian football followers, despite the woeful starts by both starts, and it has not disappointed. Napoli well worth their slender lead against the reigning champions.

    Pogba
  36. Post update

    Napoli 1-0 Juventus (45+2 mins)

End-to-end stuff at Stadio Sao Paolo! Napoli winger Jose Callejon slices wide as the home side surge forward, then Juve almost bag at the other end after a swift counter. But that leaves the champions stretched at the back, Napoli storming forward on the counter-counter-attack, but Dries Mertens cannot bend his curling shot inside the far post.

  37. KICK-OFF

    Villarreal 1-0 Atletico

We're back under way at El Madrigal. Fernando Torres is on as part of a double substitution at half-time for Atletico, along with Luciano Vietto, the former Villarreal striker.

    Torres
  38. INJURY TIME

    Napoli 1-0 Juventus

Three minutes for Juventus to do something to alter Max Allegri's half-time team-talk. But don't hold your breath. The hairdryer could be out.

  39. Post update

    Napoli 1-0 Juventus (42 mins)

What response have we seen from Juventus? Very little to be honest. They have offered little attacking threat and look - well, they are - a shadow of the side that cruised to the title last season.

    Hernanes
  40. SUBSTITUTION

    Napoli 1-0 Juventus (39 mins)

Oh dear. A big blow to Napoli's hopes here. Goalscorer Lorenzo Insigne goes down clutching his right leg - and team-mate Gonzalo Higuain immediately does that he-needs-substituting-now motion with his hands. Shame for Insigne who - yet again - has been outstanding. He is replaced by Belgium winger Dries Mertens.

  41. Post update

    Napoli 1-0 Juventus

A bit of claret is streaming from Giorgio Chiellini's face after some more combative defending from the Juve man. A quick wet of the magic sponge, a clean shirt and he is ready to roll again.

  42. Post update

    Napoli 1-0 Juventus (35 mins)

Another chance for Napoli, who would be delighted with a 2-0 half-time lead over the champions. Jose Callejon appears at the far post to meet Lorenzo Insigne's floated diagonal ball with his head. But Juve stalwart Giorgio Chiellini sticks his sizeable conk in the way to block.

    Insigne
  43. Post update

    Napoli 1-0 Juventus (33 mins)

Still all Napoli at the Stadio San Paolo. Great energy to this match. Who said Serie A was boring these days? The home side are not allowing the champions any time on the ball.

    Allan
  44. HALF-TIME

    Villarreal 1-0 Atletico

Villarreal good value for their lead, and their dominance is reflected in the first-half possession stats: 66 per cent to Atletico's 34 per cent.

Unbeaten Villarreal going top as it stands. Three important little words there.

  45. Post update

  46. GOAL - Napoli 1-0 Juventus

    Lorenzo Insigne (26 mins)

Goooooooal! If there is a decibel meter inside the Stadio San Paolo then it has just been shattered. An explosion of noise greets the home side's opening goal from Lorenzo Insigne. The Italy forward plays a neat on-two with Gonzalo Higuain before drilling in a low first-time shot from 20 yards. Even Gianluigi Buffon could not get down quick enough to stop that.

    Insigne
  47. Post update

    Villarreal 1-0 Atletico (38 mins)

Close - Samu Castillejo sends a diving header inches wide for Villarreal as they press for a second.

  48. Post update

    Napoli 0-0 Juventus (21 mins)

Still an almighty din in Naples as the home team look to take advantage of any supposed vulnerability that plagues Juventus nowadays. The visitors are gradually finding some rhythm, but neither side has created a golden chance since Simone Zaza's effort  earlier.

  49. Post update

  50. Post update

    Villarreal 1-0 Atletico (35 mins)

A promising Villarreal attack breaks down as Roberto Soldado is flagged offside. Now where have Spurs fans heard that before?

  51. Post update

    Napoli 0-0 Juventus

Juventus's firepower has been decimated by injuries to Spain striker Alvaro Morata and Croatia forward Mario Mandzukic, meaning their goalscoring burden has fallen on the shoulders of Simone Zaza. The Italy international has an early sighter on goal, drilling a low shot into the hands of Napoli keeper Pepe Reina.

  52. Post update

  53. Post update

    Napoli 0-0 Juventus

Napoli striker Gonzalo Higuain is a striker who is on a hot streak. The Argentina international has bagged four goals in his last five matches and has an early sight of goal here. But he leans back too much and clears the crossbar from 15 yards.

  54. Post update

    Napoli 0-0 Juventus

The noise inside the San Paolo stadium is crazy. These Napoli fans are pumped. So too are their players, who have forced Juve keeper Gianluigi Buffon into some early action after a good tempo start.

  55. KICK-OFF

    Napoli 0-0 Juventus

Across the Mediterranean Sea is another important match. Over in Serie A, Napoli - who have finished each of the last two seasons in the top five - are hosting struggling champions Juventus.

  56. GOAL - Villarreal 1-0 Atletico

    Leo Baptistao (15 mins)

We have an opener in Spain's big evening match. Hosts Villarreal nick an early lead through Leo Baptistao's thunderous strike.

    Lewandowski breaks another Bundesliga record

Robert Lewandowski's memorable week continued as the Bayern Munich striker reached 100 Bundesliga goals quicker than any other foreign player.

The Poland captain, 27, scored five goals in nine minutes in the midweek win against Wolfsburg and netted twice more against Mainz as title holders Bayern extended their 100% start to seven games.

Summer signing Kingsley Coman added the other in a 3-0 win.

  59. Post update

    Villarreal 0-0 Atletico Madrid

Two other teams who will be buoyed by Real Madrid's surprise draw (and possibly Messi's injury) are Villarreal and Atletico Madrid. It is fourth versus fifth at El Madrigal, with the winner climbing above Barca into top spot. They've just kicked off on the east coast of Spain.

  60. 'Young Barca players must step up'

Of course it goes without saying that Messi's absence will be leave a huge hole in Barcelona's attacking armoury. But they do have Neymar and Luis Suarez so let's not feel too sorry for them.

Journalist Ernest Macia from Radio Catalunya was at the Nou Camp today and has been telling BBC World Service that it is Messi's "most important injury in seven or eight years".

He adds: "Barcelona must play many of their rivals at the start of the season so he is a big loss but normally Barcelona need him most when it comes to March or April. Now young players need to come up and come into the team."

  61. Messi out for 'seven or eight weeks'

So Barcelona have won and Madrid have dropped points. But aside from the on-field action, there has been some other big news from La Liga....

Barcelona talisman Lionel Messi will be out for seven to eight weeks after tearing a ligament in his left knee during a 2-1 win over Las Palmas.

The bad news? He will miss a host of important La Liga and Champions League matches. The good news? His first match back could be El Clasico against Real Madrid.

  62. Post update

  63. FULL-TIME

    Real Madrid 0-0 Malaga

How Real Madrid did not win that game is beyond me. Ronaldo could - and perhaps should - have bagged the hat-trick he needs to overtake Raul as the club's all-time leading scorer.

Madrid had 31 attempts at goal. But credit to Malaga, who defended heroically.

  64. FULL-TIME

    Real Madrid 0-0 Malaga

All over at the Bernabeu! Wasteful Madrid, frustrated Ronaldo, resolute Malaga, inspired Kameni. That is pretty much this game in a nutshell. Madrid miss out on top spot.

  65. Post update

    Real Madrid 0-0 Malaga

...Cristiano Ronaldo. But he misses! Ronaldo stays onside to meet Dani Carvajal's cross from the right, but he is stretching too much and sees the ball skim his head and not trouble Malaga keeper Carlos Kameni.

  66. Post update

    Real Madrid 0-0 Malaga

Time for one more Madrid chance - and it falls to....

  67. Post update

    Real Madrid 0-0 Malaga

Remarkable scenes. Another golden chances is blown by Cristiano Ronaldo. The Madrid talisman dives in at the far post to meet Marcelo's teasing left-wing cross, but plants his header over. Time is ticking down...

  68. INJURY TIME

    Real Madrid 0-0 Malaga

Four minutes for Real Madrid to find a winner and go to the top of La Liga.

  69. DISALLOWED GOAL

    Real Madrid 0-0 Malaga

Finally Madrid have the ball in the net - but wait! The linesman's flag is raised against Luka Modric, who crossed in for Karim Benzema to convert. Modric is, wrongly, adjudged to be offside.

  70. Post update

    Real Madrid 0-0 Malaga

More Malaga antics annoy the Madrid players and fans, this time Juan Carlos is rolling around on the touchline. gain the aim is to run down the clock. Madrid right-back Dani Carvajal is incensed and picks up a booking for losing his temper.

    Rafael Benitez
  71. Post update

    Real Madrid 0-0 Malaga

A few shenanigans from the away side now as they try to run down the clock. Juanpi is booked for clowning about near the corner flag, feeling the wrath of both the home fans behind him and the referee.

  72. Post update

    Real Madrid 0-0 Malaga

Juanpi leads the Malaga counter charge again, but the sub slows down as he waits for team-mates to arrive in support, He knows he hasn't got the legs to outpace the home defence.

  73. Post update

    Real Madrid 0-0 Malaga

More pressure as Real Madrid force a flurry of corners. But the Malaga defence holds firm - like they have done all night. Well, so far...

  74. Post update

    Real Madrid 0-0 Malaga

Malaga substitute Juanpi has a crack from distance. And why not. His low left-foot shot from outside the box is easily saved in the bottom right corner by Keylor Navas though.

Jeers from the frustrated home fans as a terrible effort from Toni Kroos flies harmlessly over. Waste.

    Toni Kroos
  76. SUBSTITUTION

    Real Madrid 0-0 Malaga

Another change for Malaga. Young forward Pablo Fornals, who is making his debut, comes off for fellow attacker Ricardo Horta. No sign of Malaga shutting up shop with a defensive change.

  77. Post update

    Real Madrid 0-0 Malaga

Little over 10 minutes for Real Madrid to make this numerical advantage count. Nordin Amrabat eventually leaves the pitch to the sound of 90,000-odd Madristas jeering and whistling at him.

    Rafael Benitez
  78. RED CARD - Nordin Amrabat

    Real Madrid 0-0 Malaga

Could this be the turning point? Malaga forward Nordin Amrabat - who has caused problems for Real Madrid all night - loses the plot completely. He swings out an elbow at Marcelo and the ref has no problem in dishing out a straight red.

  79. Post update

    Real Madrid 0-0 Malaga

Unbelievable! Malaga keeper Carlos Kameni keeps out Real Madrid with another brilliant save  from Karim Benzema - but then almost undoes all his previous good work. Isco's follow-up slips through Kameni's greasy fingers, but luckily for the visitors his skipper Welington is on hand to slide clear off his goal-line. Remarkable.

    Carlos Kameni
  80. Post update

    Real Madrid 0-0 Malaga

Ouch! Malaga centre-back Marcos Angeleri is resorting to stopping Cristiano Ronaldo by any method possible now. The Argentine scythes through the back of Ronaldo, who gestures angrily at his opponent.

  81. Post update

    Real Madrid 0-0 Malaga

Oh my word. What a chance for Malaga! Warning sign for Real Madrid that the visitors fancy their chances of scoring their first La Liga goal of the season right here in the Bernabeu. Pesky forward Nordin Amrabat is causing a nuisance again, collecting a rebound in the Madrid box but lacking the composure to hit the target with a low shot from 10 yards.

    Noureddine Amrabat
  82. SUBSTITUTION

    Real Madrid 0-0 Malaga

Time for a Malaga switch. Probably just to knock off a vital few seconds more than anything else. Off comes Moroccan forward Adnane Tighadouini with Juanpi replacing him in a straight swap.

  83. Post update

    Real Madrid 0-0 Malaga

Madrid patiently probe for another opening as they remain camped on the edge of the Malaga area. Dani Carvajal fizzes a low cross from the right towards the far post. Cristiano Ronaldo lies in wait...Carlos Kameni beats him to the ball. Again.

    Daniel Carvajal
  84. Post update

    Real Madrid 0-0 Malaga

It is like a training ground match of attack v defence now. Think I counted 19 players within 25 yards of the Malaga goal as Madrid press again...

  85. Post update

    Real Madrid 0-0 Malaga

Better intensity from Madrid - they know time is ticking down sharpish. Cristiano Ronaldo collects a pass from Isco in the inside right channel....fires into the side-netting. That's Madrid's 23rd shot of the match....

  86. Post update

    Real Madrid 0-0 Malaga

Neat link-up play between Karim Benzema and Luka Modric tees up a chance for the former Spurs midfielder. From about 15 yards out, the Croatian prods goalwards only for Carlos Kameni to easily gather.

  87. SUBSTITUTION

    Real Madrid 0-0 Malaga

Jese is carried off the pitch on a stretcher before hobbling down the Bernabeu with the help of several members of the Madrid medical staff. The poor lad is in tears. On comes young Croatian midfielder Mateo Kovacic, a big-money summer signing from Inter Milan.

  88. CLOSE!

    Real Madrid 0-0 Malaga

Oh dear. Sad sight as Madrid forward Jese crumbles to the Bernabeu turf after shooting over the Malaga bar. Awkward landing for the young Spain international, who ruptured his knee ligaments last year. Let's hope it is not a similar injury.

    Real Madrid 0-0 Malaga

More shakes of the head from Cristiano Ronaldo mean one thing - he's come close to scoring again. This time Malaga defender Welington nips ahead of the Ballon d'Or winner to clear at the far post.

  90. Post update

    Real Madrid 0-0 Malaga

Back we go to the other end...Karim Benzema - who has scored five goals in his last four matches - tries to steer the ball past Malaga keeper Carlos Kameni into the bottom corner. Easy save though.

    Karim Benzema
  91. Post update

    Real Madrid 0-0 Malaga

The match is pinging from end-to end like a tennis match. Malaga try to catch out Madrid on the break, but teenage attacker Pablo Fornals dillies, dallies and then slips on his backside. Raphael Varane slides in - legally this time - and Madrid clear the danger.

  92. YELLOW CARD

    Real Madrid 0-0 Malaga

Uh oh. Madrid have a problem. Moments after Raphael Varane is shown a yellow card, his centre-back partner Nacho cleans out Nordin Amrabat with a crude sliding tackle. That lands him a booking too. Both centre-backs walking a disciplinary tightrope.

    Nacho
  93. Post update

    Real Madrid 0-0 Malaga

There is more action in this match than there is a Sly Stallone classic. Cristiano Ronaldo is the central character once again, this time screwing a left-foot shot wide of the Malaga goal. Carlos Kameni, for once, did not have to be called into action.

  94. GREAT SAVE!

    Real Madrid 0-0 Malaga

    Anything Carlos Kameni can do...

Real Madrid keeper Keylor Navas is called into action, acrobatically plucking Recio's perfectly-executed curling free-kick out of his top corner. Wonderful save.

  95. GREAT SAVE!

    Real Madrid 0-0 Malaga

The half-time break has not disrupted Carlos Kameni's one-man show. The Malaga keeper denies - yep, you've guessed it - Cristiano Ronaldo again with another splendid save. The Cameroonian drops low to his left to beat away Ronaldo's fierce volley with a strong left hand.

    Cristiano Ronaldo
  96. Teams

    Real Madrid 0-0 Malaga

Pretty even start to the early stage of this second half. Neither side made a change at half-time. Here's a quick reminder of the two sides...

Real Madrid: Navas, Varane, Nacho, Ronaldo, Kroos, Benzema, Marcelo, Carvajal, Modric, Jese, Isco. Subs: Casilla, Casemiro, Kovacic, Arbeloa, Vazquez, Cheryshev, Llorente.

Malaga: Kameni; Rosales, Angeleri, Weligton, Torres; Recio, Tissone, Fornals, Tighadouini, Juankar: Amrabat. Subs: Ochoa, Albentosa, Charles, Horta, Duda, Cop, Juanpi.

  97. KICK-OFF

    Real Madrid 0-0 Malaga

Both sets of players return from the changing rooms, Malaga's coach Javi Gracia whispering a few more words of encouragement to his men. Madrid, decked out in their traditional all-white kit, resume proceedings.

  98. Messi injured in Barca win

    Barcelona 2-1 Las Palmas

Earlier we told you the big football news coming from Spain today - Lionel Messi faces "seven or eight weeks" out with a knee injury. I get pretty upset, almost teary, if that happen on Football Manager. So no wonder that back here on Planet Earth his real-life manager Luis Enrique is "sad".

"But we need to accept the challenge and understand that this is part of football and get through it," added the Barca coach.

"We will not change our style of play without Messi, although there are many moments in games in which Messi liberates us and finds solutions for us, so we'll have to strengthen in other areas and the team will have to step up without him."

And that additional 60 seconds passes quietly. Nothing to report until the referee toots his whistle to signal half-time. Cristiano Ronaldo looks up to the sky in bemusement. He doesn't know how he hasn't moved closer to becoming Real Madrid's all-time scorer.

  102. Post update

The fourth official hoists up his hi-tech electronic board to reveal there will be one minute of added time.

  103. Post update

Can Madrid nick an opener before the break? Almost. Karim Benzema muscles his way into a decent position but prods agonisingly wide.

  104. Post update

    Real Madrid 0-0 Malaga

Whooosh! Cristiano Ronaldo shows unbelievable tekkers to thump a first-time, angled volley at the Malaga goal. It cracks the post and half of the Bernabeu think it has gone in. It hasn't. Ronaldo's effort thumped the post to the right of the woodwork which holds up the net. Close but not close enough.

Quality goalkeeping from Carlos Kameni in the Malaga goal. He wanders off his line as Toni Kroos lofts in a deep right-wing corner. Ooooh has he come too far? No! The Cameroonian stretches every muscle in his body to grab hold of the high ball.

Jese is proving a handful for the Malaga defence, constantly stretching them with his pace. Back on the right flank, another centre is met by the head of Cristiano Ronaldo. Surely he has to hit the target this time? Nope.

    Real Madrid 0-0 Malaga

Rafa Benitez drags himself out of his comfy Bernabeu chair to offer some words of encouragement to his players from the touchline. And he is pointing. A lot.

Malaga keper Carlos Kameni is certainly being made to work for his weekly wage packet now. The Cameroon international needs to be light on his toes again as Cristiano Ronaldo springs forward. The Madrid forward sends a low strike scuttling along towards goal, Kameni getting down low to block. Another fine save.

Madrid have woken up after that shock, pressing forward again through Jese. He has moved over to the left, taking on a defender with a stepover or three before shooting low, then drawing another save out of Malaga keeper Carlos Kameni.

    Real Madrid 0-0 Malaga

Malaga, who haven't even scored in La Liga this season, look a threat on the counter to Madrid's relatively inexperienced centre-back pairing of Nacho and Raphael Varane. Nordin Amrabat stretches the home defence down the right channel, drilling a cross low to the far post. But Juan Carlos cannot convert. Chance gone.

  114. YELLOW CARD

    Real Madrid 0-0 Malaga

Referee Jose Luis González González - so good that they named him twice - sticks his hand in his top pocket for the first time tonight. He pulls out a yellow card and dishes it in the direction of Malaga's former Real right-back Miguel Torres for some backchat.

Malaga have settled into their rhythm nicely after that helter skelter Madrid start. The purple-shirted visitors knock the ball around confidently in their own half, before lively Morocco forward Nordin Amrabat almost latches on to a precise throughball. Warning signs for Madrid.

Few groans from the expectant Bernabeu crowd as Luka Modric hurriedly smashes a cross-field Hollywood pass towards Cristiano Ronaldo. Ronaldo was offside and the ball sailed over his head anyway. Double trouble. Madrid have lost their patience a little bit in the last few moments.

More Malaga pressure as the Bernabeu becomes a little edgy. Nordin Amrabat  tries his luck from a long way out, only to see his effort blocked by a white shirt. Ambitious.

A couple of chances in quick succession for Real Madrid's Isco, who looks desperate to make an impression on the game against his former club today. Sporting a new shaved-head look, he almost gets on the end of another Marcelo cross, then wastefully lashes over from distance.

Madrid are enjoying themselves down the left flank, afro-haired full-back Marcelo storming forward at every opportunity. Another dangerous ball is swung in by the Brazilian, but it just evades Karim Benzema who cannot keep the ball in play.

Madrid have a few injury problems - particularly at the back - but they've still got Cristiano Ronaldo and Karim Benzema. And that spells trouble. Benzema motors down the left flank, wins back a seemingly lost cause, and crosses towards Jese. But the Malaga defence hacks clear.
