"Germany will desperately want revenge for the result in Canada while England will want to prove that win was no fluke. The fact the German team are in season could prove crucial."

Welshman Mark Sampson joins his team in belting out the national anthem before the German anthem gets under way. Looks like a decent crowd in Duisburg on a nippy night.

The teams are out, and we are fast approaching kick-off. The good news for England is that striker Celia Sasic has also joined Nadine Angerer in retirement. She was a chief tormentor back in July. Both are currently being recognised for their contribution to their country on the pitch.

    Germany v England (17:00 GMT)

If you're wondering how both teams have faired since that England win on 4 July, Germany have won all four of their Euro 2017 qualifiers, the last a 7-0 win over Turkey.

England have only played one qualifier - a 8-0 win over Estonia back in September and then lost to China in a friendly last month before they recovered with a 1-0 victory over Australia.

No special tricks from Mark Sampson this evening. He opts for a 4-3-3 which includes six players who faced Germany in Canada. Fara Williams, who scored the crucial penalty that day, is back in the side after being rested from the previous squad, while Jodie Taylor starts up front in her first England outing since the World Cup.

Germany boss Silvia Neid, meanwhile, has picked four players that featured in that game in Edmonton. Legendary goalkeeper Nadine Angerer has retired and is replaced by Laura Benkarth, but Anja Mittag starts up front.

Germany XI: Benkarth, Maier, Krahn,, Peter, Rauch, Blässe, Goessling, Behringer, Laudehr, Magull, Mittag

England boss Mark Sampson is wary of Germany's desire for revenge after their World Cup defeat, a game in which the Welshman seemed to out-wit his German counterpart Silvia Neid by playing a surprise 3-5-2 formation and getting his team to adopt a physical approach. Will he do the same again?

    Let's get some team news.

"Germany is always one of our toughest tests and they are one of the best teams in the world so it will be good to challenge ourselves against them. It's one we're looking forward to because, after the World Cup, we know we can win, but to do so we will have to be at our very best."

While it's valid to point out that England's triumph in Canada was an improvement on their 3-0 defeat by Germany at Wembley just over a year ago, we should also consider more recent events.

In their recent Champions League last-16 tie German side Wolfsburg comfortably beat current Women's Super League champions Chelsea over two legs, with Blues boss Emma Hayes saying that her side were undercooked after the WSL 1 league season finished on 18 October.

That 1-0 win in the World Cup third place play-off meant Mark Sampson's team finished the tournament on a high after the crushing blow of their injury-time semi final defeat by Japan.

But now we are in the first throes of winter and England's players have finished their domestic season while Germany are in the middle of theirs.

It was only 146 days ago on a humid day in Edmonton when England finally achieved something they had not done before - beating Germany for the first time in 31 years and 21 attempts.

Has it given the Lionesses confidence to assert their authority once more or are we about to see the European champions re-establish world order in Duisburg this evening?
