It's just not running for City here. A deep free-kick is whipped in by Aleksandar Kolarov but Sergio Aguero's glancing header is straight into the keeper's midriff.

"Arsenal look like more of a team at the moment," Phil Neville says in the Match of the Day edit suite.

Martin Keown is looking ahead to the Arsene Wenger chess moves which could unfold. "I think he will bring on Kieran Gibbs, possibly on the left wing. He seems to like that in the big games as almost a cover, using a defensive choice over a  creative player to ride things out."

Interestingly, Arsenal have really worked that left side tonight, with most of their play down the flank.

  4. CLOSE!published at 53 mins

Joel Campbell almost puts the game to bed, but he blazes over from eight yards out after being presented with a glorious chance by Nacho Monreal.

Sergio Aguero doesn't have the spark which so often sets him apart today. He is fed the ball inside the box and spins his marker but his low shot is tame and straight at Petr Cech.

That second goal on the stroke of half-time has had a massive psychological effect on the game. It has allowed Arsenal to stroke the ball around with comfort. Manchester City have lacked the dynamism necessary to ruffle Arsenal.

    Arsenal 2-0 Man City

Manchester City are trying to feel their way back into the game - like a batsman trying to get bat on ball when the bowlers are on top. Lots of short passing, but none of it is too dangerous. The moment Raheem Sterling picks up the ball within 30 yards of goal, he is robbed by Joel Campbell.

Nicolas Otamendi goes into the book for a very forceful challenge into the back of Olivier Giroud. Stung into action, it seems.

Arsenal begin where they left off and win a corner - thanks to Hector Bellerin who brushes off Raheem Sterling rather easily and whips in a cross which is turned behind.

Raheem Sterling is on for the second half. When the players emerge back onto the field, he asks Aleksandar Kolarov for instructions from the dressing room. Judging by the Serb defender's pointing, it's all very simple: get forward as much as you can,Raheem. He's on for Fabian Delph.

Down the pub tonight? While you send your mate to get the beers in, cop a load of this: Mesut Ozil now has 29 Premier League assists in his career, as many as Eden Hazard but in 59 games fewer.

Now repeat it back to your mate when they return. They'll be impressed.

Yet another assist for Mesut Ozil as he picked out Theo Walcott on the edge of the area, but look how influential the number 11 is in that position in the hole.

"Simplicity is beautiful sometimes in football. Lionel Messi beating three or four defenders is great, but you do not need to do that. Ozil floats into space, threads the ball behind the defence and that is all that is needed sometimes.

"He still drifts in and out game, but he brings so much at the top end of the field."

"This has been a perfect away performance from Arsenal - and they are at home!

"It was a terrible ball from Eliaquim Mangala that gave possession away, a terrific swift counter-attack that ends with Mesut Ozil threading a pass into the path of Olivier Giroud."

    Olivier Giroud

This goal feels big. Big in the context of the match, and big in the context of the season.

Manchester City pay the price again when Eliaquim Mangala's poor ball out from the back is pounced upon and the ball is worked to Olivier Giroud who makes no mistake with a smart, low finish beyond Joe Hart.

    The assist? Need you ask?

    Honestly? You don't know?
