It is a huge day for Irish sport. Northern Ireland have won their group, and in the rugby Ireland beat France 24-9 but saw Johnny Sexton, Paul O'Connell and Peter O'Mahony suffer injuries.

Ouch. Follow the reaction to that one here.

    Faroe Islands 0-3 Romania

So Northern Ireland top Group F, with Romania finishing second and qualifying after a 3-0 win in the Faroe Islands. Hungary lost 4-3 to Greece and finish third, so will wait to find out if they qualify automatically or have to go through the play-offs.

After Shane Long's heroics against Germany, Martin O'Neill's side can get their names on the list for Euro 2016 this evening.

A win in Poland and a place in the finals is theirs.

A 2-2 draw - or higher, so 3-3 etc - and the Republic are there in place of Poland.

A 0-0 or 1-1 draw in Poland could be enough to qualify - but only if Georgia win in Germany.

    Unlikely? yes. Impossible? No.

Defeat in Poland and it's the play-offs for the Republic.

Matt Rhodes: So N. Ireland, Iceland and Albania have all qualified for Euro 2016. Who would have predicted that at start of campaign?

You can't script sport Matt. Except for nearly all of the time...

    Evening all!

Martin O'Neill makes five changes for the key game in Warsaw. Seamus Coleman returns at right-back, Shane Long is rewarded for his goal against Germany with a start and James McClean adds some width. Looks quite an attacking side to me. Can they do it?

Republic XI: Randolph; Coleman, O'Shea, Keogh, Brady; Whelan, McCarthy, Hendrick, McClean: Walters, Long

    Paulus Arajuuri

    From outta nowhere!

Teemu Pukki sends a cross across from the right towards Kasper Hamalainen, who cushions a lovely header into the pass of centre-back Paulus Arajuuri.

What he's doing up there I don't know, but his first touch is beautiful to set himself up, before converting a low finish with his second.

Northern Ireland will still take a draw, but they should have held on for all three points.
