    Poland 1-1 Republic of Ireland

We get a breather. Much needed. That was as exciting a spell of international football as you'll get.

Poland going through with Germany as it stands. But any other draw from here suits the Irish. 2-2, 3-3, you keep on going...

Poland look a real threat, they whip in a great cross which just about evades Robert Lewandowski. The Bayern man also has a half-hearted shout for a penalty after a tussle with John O'Shea.

O'Shea was wrestling with the big man there, a hand full of shirt. Seen them given...

"The assistant referee put his flag up very early - he initially spotted Robert Lewandowski was offside in the build-up to the goal.

"But the Republic of Ireland were undone too easily - again."

  6. DISALLOWED GOALpublished at 17 mins

    Poland 1-1 Republic of Ireland

I can't keep up! Poland have the ball in the net after some drastic defending from Ireland, the men in white cut through all too easily and only some last-ditch sliding in keeps the ball out. The ball does run to Pawel Olkowski and he fires in, but the offside flag was raised. Someone give us a breather!

"What a game! Jonathan Walters has been the Republic of Ireland's best performer throughout this campaign. There was a bit of luck in getting the penalty though - the referee got it wrong."

Jon Walters steps up and fires in, low and hard! Superb start to the game in Warsaw.

    Poland 1-0 Republic of Ireland

Wow! Instant response! Shane Long goes up for a header right on the edge of the area and a defender is pinged for a high foot! His foot was at head-height but that is still soft. Stunned silence around the stadium...

"It's sloppy marking. Grzegorz Krychowiak was in acres of space, once he had his first touch you would have expected an Irish challenge but he had loads of time. Credit to him, Darren Randolph was totally deceived."

    Grzegorz Krychowiak (13 mins)

A fine goal for Poland puts the national stadium into lift-off!. A corner is hit high out to Grzegorz Krychowiak 22 yards out, he takes a touch and then rattles a shot through a crowd of bodies and into the corner. Superb hit!

    Poland 0-0 Republic of Ireland

The Darren Randolph 70-yard ball to Shane Long was the key against Germany the other night and we've already seen it launched twice so far. Poland wise to it so far.

Chance! Poland get in behind for the first time, it's cut back to Michal Pazdan and he is brilliantly closed down. Corner.

    Denmark 0-2 France

Olivier Giroud might be behind Theo Walcott in the pecking order at Arsenal these days, but he certainly isn't wasting any time for his country - he's scored twice in the opening six minutes of France's friendly with Denmark.

Not been a good day for the Danes, who will now be in the play-offs after Albania overtook them for the second automatic qualification spot in Group I.

    Poland 0-0 Republic of Ireland

A 0-0 draw sees Poland through so it will be intriguing to see how the home players and fans react if it stays goalless deep into the match. So far the crowd are vociferously whistling any spell of Irish possession.

James McClean, arms like a graffiti artist's doodle pad, thinks he has won a corner but the referee penalises him for a challenge. Good pressing from Ireland so far though. The tempo of a Premier League game so far. And arguably the quality too.

"It's a good start from the Republic of Ireland, they're looking comfortable.

"Robert Lewandowski was triple-teamed the first time he got the ball, with the immediate challenge coming from John O'Shea. That is what they have to do tonight - make sure Lewandowski is under pressure as soon as he picks up the ball."

    Poland 0-0 Republic of Ireland

Double team! Robbie Brady shoves Robert Lewandowski into the side of James McClean and the Polish skipper ends up holding his ribs. To the relief of most, and the disappointment of a sizeable minority inside the national stadium, Lewandowski is up. He gives a quizzical look at referee Cuneyt Cakir and we are back on with it.

    Poland 0-0 Republic of Ireland

Roy Keane is already angrily gesticulating in the dugout as Martin O'Neill stands out alone in the technical area. My mind casts back to Poland 1-1 England at this time of year in 1991. A Gary Lineker scissor kick was enough to secure qualification then. But 1-1 won't do tonight for the Republic. They need goals.
