"He’s very good, he has a good size and has great confidence. The good thing at the moment is that young keepers from the academies have gone out on loan and gained experience like Jack has, and it’s been very good for him."

Today is an old-fashioned day for old-fashioned football.

It is always a bit blowy at the Britannia, but today it is really gusting.

David Silva, making his first league start since the beginning of October, is looking particularly windswept as City warm up.

It was against an old-school Stoke as well.

Back in January 2009, Rory Delap was sent off for kicking out at Shaun Wright-Phillips before James Beattie scored the game's only goal with a far-post header.

Things have changed a bit at the Britannia since then.

“He’ll be good, it’s a surprising choice of venue, and he’s in at the deep end because Valencia are a massive club. But if there is ever a guy to do it in his first job, it’s him.

“He’s got every opportunity to do well, and it is a fantastic chance for him.”

Hughes has been looking back at his time at Manchester City this week with a big dollop of perspective.

"I've no bitterness towards City. I wasn't really their guy," said Hughes.

"I was appointed by another group of people so when that group changed, if I'm honest, it was only a matter of time before I got replaced. Looking back I probably lasted as long as I could."

    Very fair-minded.

Top of the league, safely into the Champions League last 16 with a game to spare and into the last four of the League Cup.

Manuel Pellegrini might feel that he cannot do much more to keep his job, but City have gone from steamrollering sides at the start of the season to spluttering themselves.

A host of injuries have not helped and today - in the absence of the injured Vincent Kompany and suspended Eliaquim Mangala - they line up with Nicolas Otamendi and Martin Demichelis at the heart of their defence.

Bojan will relish the chance to run at them.

    Cheers Aimee.

"A return of two wins in 11 Premier League games is clearly not in line with the targets that were agreed and set.

"Sheikh Mansour and the board felt that there was no evidence that the situation would fundamentally change."

That was the way, that Mark Hughes was let down gently by Manchester City in 2009.

Six years on, many millions more spent, and after a flying start to this season, Manuel Pellegrini's side have won six of their last 11.

With time ticking down fast on Pep Guardiola's Bayern Munich contract, will he be folllowing Mark Hughes out the door by the end of this season?

Stoke City's influential frontman Jon Walters has dropped to the bench following last week's 2-0 loss at Sunderland.

  15. Team news - Silva returns for Man Citypublished at 11:54

Stoke v Man City (12:45 GMT)

David Silva makes his first Premier League start since the 6-1 win over Newcastle United on 3 October.

And Joe Hart returns after a hamstring problem.

Man City have plenty of injury problems, with Sergio Aguero, Yaya Toure, Vincent Kompany, Pablo Zabaleta and Samr Nasri out, while Eliaquim Mangala is injured.

So Wilfried Bony and Fernando are also drafted in from last week's win over Southampton.

Man City XI: Hart, Sagna, Otamendi, Demichelis, Kolarov, De Bruyne, Fernando, Fernandinho, Silva, Sterling, Bony

Subs: Caballero, Navas, Kelechi, Delph, Garcia, Clichy, Humphreys

  17. MOTD commentator's viewpublished at 11:50

West Brom v Tottenham (15:00 GMT)

    Jonathan Pearce
BBC football commentator at The Hawthorns

"Tottenham are enjoying their longest ever unbeaten Premier League run. They're unbeaten in five visits to The Hawthorns and the 'Hurri -Kane' is blowing strongly again.

"Spurs will start as red-hot favourites but West Brom are showing enough resilience to suggest they've fully bought into the Tony Pulis recipe for survival.

"They won't boss possession. They will try to shackle Dele Alli and starve Harry Kane of supplies. Spurs looked jaded against Chelsea. They might have to settle for a draw here."

Here's an added stat for you: Tony Pulis has lost 99 Premier League games as a manager and his next defeat will see him become one of only 15 managers to have lost a century of games in the division.

  19. Time to sell Saido?published at 11:45

West Brom v Tottenham (15:00 GMT)

It was one of the summer's great transfer sagas. Spurs tried repeatedly, and failed repeatedly, to sign West Brom striker Saido Berahino before the transfer deadline.

And, ahead of Berahino possibly facing his suitors today, Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino appeared to indicate that he might go back in for the England Under-21 player in January.

“I would take the money," former Republic of Ireland skipper Andy Townsend told 5 live Sport.

"He’s a good player, a classy finisher, has an eye for goal, but for a team like West Brom and how Tony Pulis operates, success is competing in the Premier League and staying there every year. I don’t think selling Saido Berahino right now is that detrimental to their Premier League status."
