While the appointment of a new manager is usually greeted with a sense of optimism, things could not be more contrasting at Bolton.

The Wanderers sit bottom of the Championship going into this game and their news this afternoon was that the squad has not been paid in November.

Trevor Birch, who is advising the board on possible takeover options from owner Eddie Davies, said they had not been paid because of a "short-term funding issue".

Tonight will be the last time Lee Carsley is in charge of Brentford after the Bees appointed Dean Smith as their new manager this afternoon.

The 44-year-old leaves Walsall fourth in League One after nearly five years in charge, and will succeed Dutchman Marinus Dijkhuizen who was sacked at the end of September.

Smith will be in the stands tonight at the Macron Stadium on a watching brief.
