But, it's the QPR fans making the most noise at the moment as they try to rally their team with their favourite number nine Charlie Austin now leading the line.

Reading's Oliver Norwood fouls Alejandro Faurlin, who has returned to the field after receiving stitches, and the referee decides that tug was blatant enough to warrant a booking.

Reading's Nick Blackman is inches away from opening the scoring. His dipping, swerving left-footed free-kick is simply brilliant and Robert Green has no idea where it is going.

But it smacks the crossbar and QPR breathe a big sigh of relief.

QPR are down to 10 men for the time being as Alejandro Faurlin receives stitches on the touchline, close to his right eye.

QPR, by the way, have lost each of their last three Championship away games 1-0.

Reading have the two best chances of the half so far and they both fall to defender Michael Hector.

First he collects a deep free-kick at the far post, swivels and tries to find the net but the ball is blocked.

From the resulting corner, Hector climbs highest to meet the cross but heads over the bar.

QPR's Junior Hoilett receives some treatment for a slight knock but he looks OK to continue for now.

QPR fans away to my right are chanting Charlie Austin's name.

They clearly think it's time for him to be brought into this one.

Have to say I agree as Matty Phillips, Leroy Fer and Junior Hoilett haven't quite cut it yet.

In fairness to QPR, they are having a go. They're enjoying most of the ball at the moment.

Leroy Fer and Junior Hoilett combine well down the right and Alejandro Faurlin has the chance to shoot but he takes too long and Reading clear.

The only honest thing I can say about tonight's crowd, by the way, is that the atmosphere is flat.

Granted, the players haven't given either set of fans much to cheer about, but the noise level has been low throughout and there are rows and rows of empty, blue seats.

QPR have at least one man on their bench sure to inject some excitement into this game. Will we see Charlie Austin introduced at some stage in this second half?

Honestly, we have been telling the truth. As the first-half stats below show, just seven shots were attempted in the first 45 minutes.

And there ends easily the worst 45 minutes of football I've seen this season.

Surely it can't get any worse.

Wonder if Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink has changed his mind about taking over at QPR during the course of that first half?
