Manchester United defender Marcos Rojo, working his way back to fitness after dislocating a shoulder, posted this snap on Instagram after today's 2-1 win over Swansea.

"After a great victory today, on the pitch with my loves," he wrote. Presumably, he's referring to the two little people in the photo, rather than the groundsman behind him.

After a shoddy start Manchester City are starting to find their rhythm, Sergio Aguero and David Silva have both looked dangerous but no real test for Heurelho Gomes as of yet.

Wayne Rooney scored his 188th Premier League goal and is now the outright second top goalscorer behind Alan Shearer in Premier League history (260).

Rooney is also now the outright second top goalscorer in Manchester United history (238 goals) surpassing Denis Law’s total (237).

Rooney ended a run of 553 minutes without a goal for the club (in all competitions).

Swansea goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski, who almost headed a late equaliser after going up for a corner: “I had a really good contact on the ball with a clear header and was just hoping it would squeeze in but unfortunately it went wide. It was a little bit unlucky.

“I think you have to give Wayne Rooney massive credit for the second goal. That was something not many players can do. He showed his class. It was a great touch and finish. There wasn’t much we could do.

“Our recent performances show this group is together, that’s for sure. We believe in our current manager, Alan Curtis. No matter what happens with him or a new manager, we promised ourselves something and we want to represent Swansea City to get the results. Even though we lost today, we can be positive.”

Odion Ighalo has just added Nicolas Otamendi to his list of victims, pinning and skinning the defender with a wonderful touch and turn. But Joe Hart saved his effort!

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger: "It was hard work, but we prepared ourselves mentally. We were not at our best but we had to dig deep and we can do that when needed.

"If you are down there then those are the matches you lose but they will not stay down there - they are a good team.

"It was about solidarity, tired legs and taking a chance from a set piece. We were not at our best today, but over Christmas in four games we took nine points so we can look back and say we did 75% of our job as we lost at Southampton."

Asked if his side would be signing anyone in the transfer window, Wenger replies: "Imminent, no, but we will look."

Manchester United wing-back Ashley Young: “Of course, we enjoyed it. It was nice to get back to winning ways. It was important to get the three points.

“I was playing further up than I have in the last few weeks. It was nice to get an assist.

“All around the pitch, we had a lot of joy. We created chances. I felt comfortable down the right. I just wanted to keep attacking the full-back.

“It was a great finish by Wayne Rooney. It was a striker’s instinct to get there and put it away.

“It was important to get the win, however we did it. It was nice to get the two goals.

“I think today we showed the way we want to attack teams. A lot of teams come here to defend. We want to be on the front foot and play the way we want to.”

Aston Villa boss Remi Garde told BBC Match of the Day: "I’m going to try [to sign players]. In life and football you have to believe – if you don’t you have no chance. But it’s more and more difficult. But every season in every league, a side can keep losing and suddenly win four, five or six in a row. But for that probably we will need to bring in one, two or three new players.

"Today I didn’t see a side who didn’t give everything they could. When you concede so many goals it’s difficult to win games. You cannot be positive when you lose. I’m not here to lose – I’m here to try to make the team win. Today we were so close. We didn’t play badly. I can blame my players in certain situations – when you concede a goal, it’s always from a mistake. I see a team who wanted to fight. But we need some quality."
