    Derby 1-1 Man Utd

What a tackle that is! Chris Martin is in on goal for Derby and about to pull the trigger until Chris Smalling slides in to whip it away from his toes. The margin for error there was minute. Superb defending.

I criticised Derby for their lacklustre start but their end to this half is anything but! Nick Blackman now fires wide from 20 yards.

What did that goal come from?! Let me tell you with the help of our snazzy graphic.

Derby faffed about in the middle of the park after Tom Ince (23) won a free-kick, going back to keeper Scott Carson (17) who hoofed long to striker Chris Martin (9). United defender Daley Blind (17) made a hash of a clearance, allowing Martin to pick out the run of George Thorne (34). Easy.

Both sides look rattled at the moment, Derby sense that they can hurt Manchester United after all and Tom Ince and Chris Martin link up nicely but to no avail.

The game is alive now, with the sound of Martial! Anthony Martial just breezes past two players on the left, into the box, they can't touch him, he knows it, and he then fires in a cross/shot into the goalmouth and Stephen Warnock reacts brilliantly to hook it out.

"Brilliant run from from George Thorne. He spots the gap and what a touch it is. It's an even better finish. Morgan Schneiderlin and Marouane Fellaini didn't track him and didn't he make the most of it?"

Derby have woken up! They equalise with their first real attack as they catch Manchester United cold at the back. Chris Martin picks the lock with a superb ball from the right, midfielder George Thorne times his run from deep to perfection and after killing the ball with one foot, he stabs home from 12 yards with the other.

Brilliantly taken. Cup tie back on?

Again, is it great play from Manchester United or really sluggish play from Derby? A touch of both I think as Wayne Rooney, revelling in being given time and space tonight, picks out Guillermo Varela on the right with a great pass. The Uruguayan stands up a cross, Marouane Fellaini lets it go and Anthony Martial has a shot blocked.

The Rams need to wake up!

Ashley Woodhouse: Derby really need to throw some players forward, nothing happening beyond the halfway line.

Ajay Patel: Derby have every man back, but they're ball watching and not closing down gaps allowing United to actually make forward passes.

Juan Mata, Anthony Martial, Wayne Rooney, back to Martial! Genuinely exciting play from Manchester United as they cut through Derby with a flurry of one-touch passes, brilliant stuff, but Martial's first touch is not quite up to scratch. That looked like 2-0.

Any Derby fans out there? I'd be keen to hear from you on this display. I've been very underwhelmed - or are Manchester United just playing superbly well? The Rams can't get a sniff of the ball. Paul Clement needs to change this.

Total domination. Manchester United are controlling the scoreline - and completely controlling the game. As our graphic below shows, the away side have hogged 72% of possession with Derby barely venturing into their final third of the pitch.

    Derby 0-1 Man Utd

I tell you what, Manchester United would be a cracking side in the Championship, if these opening 25 minutes are anything to go by. They are bossing this on every level - but have still had just two shots on target.

The travelling fans are loving it. Away games are always better - but even more so when your home ground is Old Trafford at the moment...

That's cheered up injured Manchester United winger Ashley Young. He's presumably watching the game from his sofa. With an ice pack and bag of crisps for company.

Fan of the tactics board? Then knock yourself out with this. Our graphic shows how Rooney (10) finished a patient United move which began with a throw-in from Guillermo Varela (30) on the opposite side of the pitch.

Paul Clement will be very disappointed with this opening 20 minutes from Derby. They haven't really got going.

As I say that they have a decent opening! Nick Blackman meets a cross from Cyrus Christie with a decent header but it's a very easy save for a man of David de Gea's class.

Guillermo Varela then sprints away to lead a counter attack and Anthony Martial has a shot saved. It's not the sort of game either side want, but perhaps that passage promises an open game?
