    John Hartson
Ex-Wales striker on BBC Radio 5 live

"When Slovakia get in and around the Wales area they run out of ideas. Wales are looking strong.

"They are hunting in packs, Wales' work-rate is terrific.

"They are going to have to keep this up for the 90 minutes to possibly get a win."

'Land of My Fathers' rings out around the Stade de Bordeaux.

Wales fans have travelled by car, boat and plane to get to Euro 2016 and they're lapping it up.

Just over five minutes of the first half remaining. So far so good for Chris Coleman's side.

  3. 'Shocking decision'published at 17:37 British Summer Time 11 June 2016

    Wales 1-0 Slovakia

    Robbie Savage
    Ex-Wales midfielder on BBC One

"Shocking! That is a terrible decision from the referee. The official behind the goal - what on Earth he is doing I don't know.

"There is no attempt to play the ball by Martin Skrtel, he tries to get his body across Jonny Williams, then throws an elbow. That has to be a penalty.

"I think Skrtel is lucky to be on the pitch."

    What is Martin Skrtel doing?

The experienced Liverpool defender barges into Jonny Williams deep inside the Slovakia penalty area - there's no attempt to win the ball.

Williams is flattened but the referee waves play on.

Jeers break out all around the Stade de Bordeaux.

Alan Mulvany: Wales play more like a Premier League team than England do! Fast pressing, pace and no fear.

Adam Clowes: I am very impressed with this formation Wales are using. Playing very high with 3 deep CBs & FBs have licence to push.

Ouise Smith: Sole Welsh fan cheering on the lads in Sports bar in Funchal! Good job I'm loud!

  6. Slovakia in shockpublished at 17:34 British Summer Time 11 June 2016

    Wales 1-0 Slovakia

    John Hartson
Ex-Wales striker on BBC Radio 5 live

"Wales manager Chris Coleman will be very content. Other than the early chance for Marek Hamsik, Wales have looked comfortable.

"Slovakia have tried to play around Wales but their shape has been really good. Slovakia look like a team in shock that they are behind in this game."

He'll be delighted with what he has seen so far.

His players are embracing the moment and are in control in Bordeaux.

Plenty of effort, desire and commitment on show from the men in red.

Andrew Tarpey: Watching that Bale goal again, what was the keeper doing?! The free kick wasn't even near the corner.

Nick: Yes, Wales, we are watching. I'm pretty sure that Joe Hart would have saved that...

Ashley Williams goes for goal - from his own half. Matus Kozacik is relieved to get both hands on the ball this time. This is being played at a frantic pace. Wales are keen to slow it down much to Slovakia's frustration.

  13. Pandemonium in Parispublished at 17:21 British Summer Time 11 June 2016

    Wales 1-0 Slovakia

    Chris Bevan
BBC Sport at The Eiffel Tower

"The Welsh fans in the Paris fanzone are still dancing in jubilation at Gareth Bale's goal and the chant of "Wales, Wales, Wales" is threatening to drown out the French commentary on the big screen. Beer was flying everywhere when it hit the back of the net."

Lots of talk Slovakia keeper Matus Kozacik was at fault for the goal. Suggestions he moved far too early. Maybe, but it was a wonderfully executed effort by Gareth Bale.

Keeper Danny Ward has hardly had anything to do and that early Marek Hamsik miss looks costly right now.

    Dafydd Pritchard
    BBC Sport Wales in Bordeaux

"If the Welsh fans were frenzied already, Gareth Bale has sparked scenes of pure pandemonium in the stands with that goal.

"His celebration had echoes of his winner against Cyprus in qualifying, sprinting maniacally to embrace his team-mates and coaches on the touchline."

Matt Chapman: Gareth Bale will get the headlines but awful awful goalkeeping. Mediocre free kick at best.

Pop 15: Great strike by Bale but that has gotta go down as a huge blunder by the keeper. It was almost in middle of the goal! Go Wales!

Tony Ross: Take a bow Mr Bale! World class strike, super free kick.

    Wales are loving this.

They have scored from their first serious chance and are looking comfortable.

Ashley Williams is barking orders at those around him but I doubt his team-mates can hear a word he is saying as 24,000 Wales fans sing at the top of their voices.

"Magnificent. Bale's not been in the game for the first 10 minutes but boy does he make an impact.

"Have to say well done to Jonny Williams for winning the free-kick and Slovakia started the game better but who cares?

"He hits it with the top of his foot and gets all sorts of swerve on the ball."
