Rob Steward: Feeling 'patriotic' after seeing the Manics songs on @BBCSport. I may become Welsh.

You could be forgiven for thinking Euro debutants Slovakia pose little threat yet, as the proverbial dark horses of Group B, they will have a huge say in the fortunes of both Wales and England.

They are certainly not lacking in talent.

At 28, Napoli captain Marek Hamsik, who loves a good mohawk, is arguably in his prime and remains an indispensable talisman for club and country.

Martin Skrtel's Liverpool future might be subject to speculation, external but he is very much a key figure for Slovakia. The 31-year-old defender has represented his country at senior level for 12 years and is captain of his country.

And don't forget midfielder Juraj Kucka, the Manchester United fan who grew up idolising Paul Scholes. His energy and dogged determination is likely to test Wales.

What a moment for young Danny Ward.

The 22-year-old Liverpool keeper, formally of Wrexham, made his international debut as a second half substitute against Northern Ireland in March.

Just three months later, and he's been handed a starting place in Wales' biggest match for over 50 years.

Ward has been with Liverpool since 2012 but has spent much of his time out on loan - at Morecambe in League Two and, most recently, the Scottish Premiership with Aberdeen.

"It is incredible to be here. The atmosphere around the city was amazing - all in good spirit.

"It is a huge afternoon for Danny Ward, Wayne Hennessey was excellent in qualifying. Ward was not playing in the Conference not too long ago - what a day for him.

"The players look fit and strong, they went through qualifying with a smile on their face. They've done great to get here, now it is important to get out of this group and make a good start today."

"Wales midfielder Aaron Ramsey owes a performance. He hasn't been at his best for Wales in his last half a dozen games.

"Wayne Hennessey is a big downer for us because Danny Ward hasn't played many games. We've heard good reports about Ward so let's hope he has a good game. I think it will be a draw with maybe no goals."

Wales fans have endured some bleak moments, none more so than in 2012 when a side containing Gareth Bale, Aaron Ramsey and Joe Allen were hammered 6-1 away to Serbia in a World Cup qualifier.

No wonder Wales fans are smiling in Bordeaux.

  15. How Slovakia qualifiedpublished at 16:25

Any team that sends holders Spain to a first qualifying defeat in eight years deserves a place in the finals. That's exactly what Slovakia did on the road to France.

Jan Kozak's side had already beaten Ukraine in Kiev when they hosted Spain in Zilina and won 2-1 with the help of a goal by former Chelsea winger Miroslav Stoch.

They were unable to repeat the trick in the return game in Oviedo - Spain running out 2-0 winners. But by then Slovakia were well on their way to the finals having collected 18 points from seven games and eventually finished one point ahead of third-placed Ukraine.

On the day of his wedding four decades ago, he got married to wife Iveta at 9 o'clock in the morning, played a top-flight match for Lokomotiva Kosice before inviting the entire team, and match officials, to the party afterwards.
