  1. CLOSE!published at 55 mins

    Watford 0-0 Chelsea

    So close.

Nemanja Matic clips a pass through the Watford defence, Diego Costa is offside but the flag stays down and he gets to the touchline before cutting back for Oscar, whose first-time effort flies inches wide of the post.

    GOAAAA...sidenetting.

Jose Holebas loves getting forward and he is in the area again, ghosting past John Obi Mikel and he smashes a shot that bulges the net. Some of the Watford fans think it is a goal, before seeing the ball roll down the outside of the sidenetting.

At the other end, Troy Deeney volleys just wide as Chelsea struggle to clear.

    Good start to the half.

Chelsea are immediately on the front foot as Cesc Fabregas plays a beautiful ball through the Watford defence to Oscar. You'd back him to score but he rolls the ball onto his right foot and his attempt to find the far corner is blocked.

The ball, though, stays with Chelsea as John Obi Mikel hammers a shot from the edge of the area and it balloons off a Watford player, forcing Heurelho Gomes to push over his bar.

  5. KICK-OFFpublished at 46 mins

    Watford 0-0 Chelsea

Some hard house music is cut off in its prime as Watford get us back under way.

Tempers were simmering in the first half, will they boil over in the second?

Diego Costa is bookedImage source, PA

Just watching the replay of that incident between Paredes and Costa and I think referee Mike Dean made the right call. Costa certainly wasn't looking for anything as Paredes knocked into him, but then he pushed back in retaliation and Paredes rolled theatrically.

A yellow card each looks to be the right call.

  9. "Costa in one of those moods"published at 20:37 Greenwich Mean Time 3 February 2016

    Watford 0-0 Chelsea

    BBC Radio 5 Live

Former Chelsea keeper Mark Schwarzer on BBC Radio 5 live: "Costa is certainly in one of those moods tonight. It is part of his game. He is a fighter, whether you like it or not."

  10. HALF-TIMEpublished at 20:35 Greenwich Mean Time 3 February 2016

    Watford 0-0 Chelsea

Not a half blessed with genuine chances. The game is simmering though with Diego Costa endearing himself to the home fans.

One minute of added time as Diego Costa gets the ball and boos ring out from the home fans.

Ey up, someone has angered Diego Costa. He is down on the floor, close to Juan Carlos Paredes before swiftly getting himself back to his feet. He then marches towards the Watford man, eyeballing him.

The Chelsea bench all jump up, the players all swarm in to separate the two. Eventually the situation is controlled and the referee books both Costa and Paredes.

Tom Mayhew: Even as a Chelsea fan, I have to admit that Ighalo is the best outfield player on the pitch.

Paul Whittenbury: Chelsea are a spent force but Watford look much the better side here! Need to take a chance before Chelsea wake up though

Douglas Imaralu: A very uninspiring Chelsea display. Weak midfield. Watford bossing the game.

    Watford 0-0 Chelsea

Five minutes until the break and Cesar Azpilicueta fires wide of the far post with a half-hearted effort.

The Hornets have conceded just seven first-half goals in the Premier League this season, I'm not seeing an eighth coming in this game. (Cue goal flash in my next entry...)

Mount a defence of Chelsea's season so far and this might well happen......

Jamie Matthews: re Ewan Lury, yes, bad season. Chelsea should be challenging for the title. 5 points off Liverpool in 5th is unacceptable.

Tom Horton: To Ewan Lury: do you actually need that question answering?! IF they win, the champions are19 points off top!

  17. Postpublished at 35 mins

    Watford 0-0 Chelsea

That's rattled Watford a bit and they've pulled players back, frustrating for Odion Ighalo as he races forward with the ball but has no support and panics, hitting a pass straight to a Chelsea player.

Watford, though, have just two players back defending and it almost proves costly as Cesc Fabregas launches a great ball forward for Diego Costa, who controls and embarks on a bustling, bulldozing run towards the box before his low drive deflects off Craig Cathcart and just beyond the far post.

Watford are showing no fear and why should they? They are higher in the table than Chelsea and are edging further and further forward as the half goes on, with Chelsea retreating as a result.

Can they make this pressure count?

  20. CLOSE!published at 27 mins

    Etienne Capoue reactsImage source, AP

The hosts have really come to life now and look particularly deadly from set pieces as Sebastian Prodl  smashes a header at Thibaut Courtois.

Moments later, the Chelsea keeper is tested again when Etienne Capoue drives a shot goalwards from a difficult angle and Courtois palms away.

    Watford are well on top.
