"My first instinct was it's a penalty. Daley Blind threw both arms up in front of his face - a deliberate movement with his hands. He's basically saved it."

    Chelsea 0-0 Man Utd

Brilliant from John Terry, you have to say. He cuts out a pass at one end and then goes on one of his charges up front. He knits together a one-two with Cesc Fabregas and then joins Diego Costa in the box. The ball drops for him and he lashes in a shot which is blocked by Daley Blind.

Did he have his hands over his face? Yes.

Is that a penalty? Quite possibly yes...

Nik Ferrier-Hanslip: Is Rooney playing!? Very quiet.

Bernie: It's all very weary. Where are Chelsea's strikers? It seems they are happy to avoid relegation and that's it.

United had most of the possession in the opening exchanges but Chelsea have gradually eased their way into this. Between the 29th and 33rd minutes they created three chances as they saw more of the ball.

PSG and Midtjylland, Chelsea and Manchester United's upcoming European opposition, won't have too many fears going on this game. Slow, sloppy and soulless stuff so far.

"That's what you want to see from Chelsea - testing the young full-back Cameron Borthwick-Jackson. Fantastic wing play from Willian. The home side will feel they can really exploit that area as the game wears on."

RobT: It feels like Chelsea are getting a foothold now. United's early pressure came to nothing.

Well played Willian! He takes Cameron Borthwick-Jackson back to school, leaving him sprawled on his backside looking at the sky as the Brazilian skips inside and flashes in a low cross. Can Oscar apply the finishing touch? Nope, it skips away past the post, falling through his fingers like his apparent move to China...

"A better spell from Chelsea. There's been a bit more intent and pressing from Diego Costa and that's infectious. I'm amazed Guus Hiddink hasn't worked in the week on trying to stop Michael Carrick though. Cesc Fabregas tends to ball-watch and drift across, leaving Carrick free to dictate play."

  16. CLOSE!published at 31 mins

Marginally better fare as Chelsea spring Diego Costa in behind the Manchester United defence. He's in on goal but wide on the right with a tricky angle and he slides a shot across goal.

Moments later Oscar batters one over the top. Better!

    Dull, dull, dull.

If any more of these BIG games late on a Saturday or Sunday fail to deliver the goods the rest of the world will be recalling those big-money contracts.

Save the cash and put re-runs of Dad's Army on instead.
