Clearest booking you'll see all season.

Saido Berahino threatened to break clear for West Brom and Everton midfielder Gareth Barry came across to stop him in his tracks.

No desire to get the ball there, just had his eyes on his man...and nailed him.

Having not finished off their chances at one end, Everton almost get the sucker punch of conceding a second. 

West Brom break quickly and the hard-working Salomon Rondon holds the ball before feeding Chris Brunt inside the area, but the Northern Irishman's low shot goes wide of goal.

It's not happening for Everton. They're working hard to try and find a way through the resolute West Brom defence and are having to resort to shots from outside the box.

This time Gareth Barry shoots narrowly over - 21 shots and counting.

More fire-power for the home side and they need it. He's got more than half an hour to save this game.

And with Tony Pulis knowing his man James McClean is walking a tightrope, he gets taken off.

After some intricate play, Seamus Coleman's left-footed shot is no trouble for Ben Foster, who gathers with ease.

West Brom's Claudio Yacob can't quite believe he has been pulled up for a foul on James McCarthy. Have to be honest, there didn't look much contact in that challenge.

Everton can't capitalise from the free-kick though, as the away side manage to clear the ball.

Everton back on it, they had 75% possession in the first half and are starting the second period in the same manner.

Seamus Coleman's shot from outside the area comes off his own man Romelu Lukaku and rolls wide for a goal-kick. Another effort, another off target.

“Everton are having a purple patch firing in shots, but what West Brom are doing well is putting their bodies in the way and doing what they have to do to keep the ball out.”

You can see how deep West Brom were in that first half, but they've held out on the Everton barrage at goal. 

The Toffees had 14 shots in the opening period, but just two on target.

You can see Jonas Olsson (3) has been camped almost on the edge of his own box and making five blocks and eight clearances shows why.

Everton have hit the post twice. It has been a really exciting opening 45 minutes at Goodison Park.
