Confident start from Arsenal, it must be said. Assist king Mesut Ozil turns in space midway inside the Barca half, looks for a one-two with Alex Iwobi, only for Barca to hack clear on the edge of their box.

This makes things very, very interesting.

Paul Pogba side-foots home from 18 yards, effectively slotting the ball into an empty net after Manuel Neuer rushes from his goal and smothers a shot from Alvaro Morata but only as far as the Juve goalscorer.

“You will be safer on the lottery this weekend than Arsenal beating Barcelona. The team selection is a defeatist attitude, the lead is not insurmountable. Arsenal fans will have paid hard-earned money to go out there and the team selection is incredible.

"You might as well go to win every game. I can’t get how you can go out like that in the Champions League, it is mind numbing for the players. You can’t just turn it on and off, winning is a habit and infectious.

"This is Arsenal’s problem, they have been happy to finish fourth. The fans got carried away winning the FA Cup, the club should not be pleased with that.

"Arsene Wenger has been a great manager over the years but he is a terrible manager of chronic load. His players suffer muscle injuries more than any other team and that is what costs them in the Premier League and Champions League."

Barcelona press straight from the first whistle, forcing back the Gunners. But then Arsenal spring forward and win the game's first corner. It was never a corner! Danny Welbeck slips on the greasy turf, the ball clipping his own feet and going out.

The Barca players are understandably livid, but justice is served as Jeremy Mathieu heads the set-piece clear.

Iniesta has sensibly shaved off that terrible punk-rock mohawk that he sported in the first leg.

No amount of hair gel will keep these footballers' barnets in check tonight.

"Arsenal fans will hope it will go better than my debut here at the Nou Camp for Leeds, we lost 4-0. It was a footballing lesson, it was so intimidating.

"You come down the tunnel, there is a chapel on the right-hand side where the away team go to pray then come out to this enormous stadium. It sends shivers down your spine, it is scary.

"You can barely see your fans up in the Gods in the sixth tier."

"If Arsene Wenger has had an eye on Everton in the Premier League on Saturday in his team selection, it is a very dangerous game. If Wenger sees this as putting out a weakened side, they could get annihilated. If they lose by 5-0, 6-0, it will be humiliating. Wenger is already under so much pressure.

"You can understand leaving out Per Mertesacker who is not great on the turn and Theo Walcott has been off form. It is a little bit of a risk but you can't come to the Nou Camp, play an under-strength side and get away with it."

Any dreams that Getafe had of Barcelona easing off at the weekend with one eye on this tie proved fanciful.

To say Barca warmed up nicely for tonight would be an understatement. The Spanish leaders were on fire.

Lionel Messi scored one goal, made three and missed a penalty as the Catalans thrashed lowly Getafe in a 6-0 win.

Good or bad news for Arsenal? I'm going with the latter...

Little over five minutes until kick-off and the torrential Catalan rain means there are still plenty of spaces around the Nou Camp. The fella selling pac-a-macs outside will be making a killing.

Gunners boss Arsene Wenger has come in for renewed criticism as Arsenal's pursuit of trophies domestically and in Europe has suffered a series of setbacks.

But the Frenchman, 66, remains as dedicated as ever to bringing success to the club.

"I am even more motivated than the day I arrived," he said. "When you are a long time somewhere, people always question you. I don't question my dedication, it is 100%."

He added: "We have gone through a disappointing spell and it is important to remain calm and strong."
