And now an opening at the other end!

Mamadou Sakho - who is playing like he has put on rollerskates rather than studs - is given the runaround by Harry Kane and only a well-judged bit of jockeying and blocking from Dejan Lovren spares his blushes.

More work for Tottenham goalkeeper Hugo Lloris as he is required to palm away a meaty curling effort from the edge of the box from Adam Lallana.

"Maybe Daniel Sturridge could have taken the ball on a bit further, it was on his favoured left foot too."

  4. CHANCE!published at 35 mins

    Liverpool 0-0 Tottenham

Does a fully fit and firing Daniel Sturridge bury that one?

The Liverpool striker is played in by a clever outside-of-the-foot flick from Philippe Coutinho, but looks a little ponderous.

He takes a touch, hesitates instead of advancing and then pings a low shot straight at Hugo Lloris' shins from 16 yards.

Liverpool are doing well at pressurising Spurs high up the pitch, just the sort of thing manager Jurgen Klopp likes to see.

The problems for Liverpool come as they look equally likely to inflict wounds of themselves through uncertainty at the back. Mamadou Sakho is a mixed bag while keeper Simon Mignolet always gives Spurs encouragement with the ball at his feet.

    Liverpool 0-0 Tottenham

Tottenham have crowbarred their way into the ascendancy in this contest now.

Anfield is a little more library-like after the pre-match rumbles and banners.

Adam Lallana with a lovely bit of showboating as he lures Christian Eriksen into the challenge and then flicks the ball around the Dane.

That was a lot less clever from Emre Can though. The Germany international gives the ball away to Eriksen with a kamikaze ball across the face of his own penalty area and is relieved to see Simon Mignolet make a solid save.

"The referee didn't need to be so dramatic when he pointed for a goal-kick. Jurgen Klopp couldn't believe what he was seeing."

    Oh, Jon Moss you tease.

As James Milner and Danny Rose come together in the penalty area, the referee appears to point to the spot.

But actually he is indicating to the edge of the six-yard box for a goal-kick.

That got lost in translation for a moment. But it is the right decision.

  10. CLOSE!published at 26 mins

    Liverpool 0-0 Tottenham

There is always a rick in this Liverpool defence. Actually make that several.

Mamadou Sakho misses his header in midfield, Dejan Lovren stands off Harry Kane half a second too long and the England striker fires just wide as he accepts the invite into the penalty area.

  11. YELLOW CARDpublished at 25 mins

    Liverpool 0-0 Tottenham

Philippe Coutinho hustles Christian Eriksen out of possession in midfield and canters forward.

But when Toby Alderweireld comes in to challenge, the Liverpool attacker flops dramatically and deservedly picks up yellow.

Fairly even so far, but the average positions show that Tottenham's players (right) are getting closer to the Liverpool goal.

"Tottenham's turn to turn the gun towards their own foot.

"Son Heung-min slides in to try and cut out a cut-back towards the edge of the Tottenham box, but instead sends the ball scooting dangerously towards the near post.

"Hugo Lloris is down quickly to deflect the friendly fire."

Not been a quiet start for fourth official Mike Jones at Anfield. He will have a ringing in his ears from two verbal blasts from Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp and his Spurs counterpart Mauricio Pocettino.

On the pitch there is some high-paced passing between two teams intent on attack - but still waiting for that crucial breakthrough.

Jitters at the back for Liverpool.

Dejan Lovren is ushering a loose ball back to Simon Mignolet in the Liverpool goal. Harry Kane is a distant third in the race, but manages to get a foot to Mignolet's clearance.

The ball loops back over Mignolet's shoulder and over the bar to much relief from the home fans.

Philippe Coutinho swings in a free-kick from out on the left, but that is well over-hit and is meat and drink for Hugo Lloris in the Tottenham goal.

A waste with plenty of height in the shape of Mamadou Sakho and Emre Can looming in the Spurs box.

    Chance!

Good work from Adam Lallana as he picks out James Milner with a square ball into the penalty box.

Milner controls on the stretch, but Kevin Wimmer gets across to make a crucial block as the Liverpool midfielder toe-pokes at goal from 10 yards.

Wimmer is an unlikely looking footballer, but a highly effective one.

  20. GREAT SAVE!published at 9 mins

    Liverpool 0-0 Tottenham

The first shot in anger and it is a venomous 15-yard strike from Christian Eriksen. It is from a tight angle and with plenty of defenders buzzing around to put him off, but goalkeeper Simon Mignolet still needs to be sharp to push it away.
