So, a great result for Cardiff, but Brighton's promotion hopes take a huge dent.

Cardiff manager Russell Slade told Sky Sports.

"I was pleased with the maturity of the performance really, I thought it was really mature.

"We did the right things at the right times, committed when we needed to commit, and sat out when we needed to sit out.

"Anthony Pilkington was a thorn in their side all afternoon. He's a willing runner, he'll go down the sides, and he's a really good finisher."

This result, by the way, leaves Cardiff only two points outside the play-off places ahead of the 15:00 GMT fixtures.

Cardiff winger Peter Whittingham told Sky Sports:

"I think we've just got to keep playing as we are. The last two games were a bit disappointing for us, we should have scored goals.

"But it's always been coming, and it's a great result for us." 

Cardiff City forward Anthony Pilkington told Sky Sports:

"I thought that's been coming the last couple of games, we haven't scored but we've been creating numerous chances. 

"We've been unlucky not to have scored the last couple of games, but we've scored four today, so that's brilliant."

A wonderful performance from Russell Slade's side, who are clear and deserved winners today.

Three first-half goals in 14 minutes did the damage, and Peter Whittingham's penalty settled matters in the second half after Dale Stephens had put Brighton back in with a shout.

Matthew Connolly leaves the field with blood pouring from above his right eye.

The centre-back appeared to head the back of Tomer Hemed's head in a purely accidental challenge.

Four minutes of added time left until Cardiff can celebrate their 12th win of the season.

Chris Hughton has a lot of work to do on the training ground this week if Brighton are serious about their promotion hopes.

We've just been told that 14,143 have been at the Cardiff City Stadium today.

Kenneth Zohore's first contribution sees him out-muscle Bruno on the half-way line, before running at the Brighton defence and dragging a shot wide of the far post.

The visitors are creating a few chances themselves now as well, but it's far too little, far too late. 

The visitors work an opening at long last, Tomer Hemed wiggling free inside the right-hand side of the area.

He drills a cross along the six-yard box, but there's no-one there to attack it.

Cardiff respond by introducing Kenneth Zohore for Tom Lawrence. No goals for Lawrence, but he's been hugely impressive.

If I'm being completely honest, the sting appears to have gone out of this game since Whittingham extended Cardiff's lead to three goals again.

Tom Lawrence is denied another chance to surge forward from midfield by a rather cynical trip from Brighton's Tomer Hemed.

It's hard to believe Tom Lawrence normally plays as a striker - he's looked a natural carrying the ball out of midfield for Cardiff.

Brighton haven't offered much of a response since Peter Whittingham's penalty. They look well on their way to just their second away defeat of the season.

Some relief for the travelling fans as Cardiff's Anthony Pilkington earns a well-deserved rest, with Aron Gunnarsson brought on as a substitute.

Pilkington has been terrific today - Brighton's centre-halves could hardly get close to him.

"Peter Whittingham's penalty has taken all the tension out of the Cardiff fans, who had not seen their side score four at home in the league since October 2012 when they hammered Burnley 4-0.

"This is arguably the most impressive attacking display Cardiff have had under the management of Russell Slade and the fans are enjoying it."

If there's a bright point to pick out for Brighton fans from today's performance, Jiri Skalak looks a decent player on the wings.

It's been a dreadful performance defensively, with Liam Rosenior going into the book for a hefty challenge on the impressive Tom Lawrence.

It's the first time Chris Hughton's side have conceded four or more goals all season. You have to say Cardiff have deserved it as well.
