I wonder if Alan Pardew did make a wish when he rubbed Brian McDermott's head? The perfect evening for Pardew and Palace as they breeze into the last four.

There's still some big quarter-final games to come this weekend, starting with Everton versus Chelsea at 17:30 GMT tomorrow. We'll be back with live coverage on BBC One, 5 live and online for that one.

    Reading 0-2 Crystal Palace

Reading boss Brian McDermott: "It was a tight, tight game. Ali Al-Habsi made a couple of really good saves and I am proud of the players and proud of the support. We want that every single week, that is what we are striving for - nights like tonight.

"Palace have real pace on the attack but the boys are really disappointed. Jake Cooper is really upset but he has no need to be, he was terrific tonight and it will be a good learning curve for him.

"He is a genuine good man. I have a lot of genuinely good people around us and the more we have of them the more chance of being successful we are going to have.

"Good luck to Alan, I hope they get a really good draw and good luck to them. The cup was a bonus for us. We want to be fighting at the top of the Championship, that is our priority."

Reading goalkeeper Ali Al-Habsi: "It is always going to be difficult against a Premier League side.

"We had played Tuesday away from home against Huddersfield and to play tonight we only had two days rest.

"We were very close to Wembley but you have to be very focused for 90 minutes. We concentrate on the league now."

    Reading 0-2 Crystal Palace

Crystal Palace boss Alan Pardew: "I haven't seen the penalty again and I am not going to even give it an opinion, I have had enough trouble with penalties!

"It was a tricky tie for us but we were really, really good today and should have wrapped it up before the penalty.

"We thought the keeper was man of the match. Great saves but you have to accept that sometimes. All you can do is the process - seeing the game plan through - and we did that today.

"It has been a strange run we have been on. We have been terrific in the cup but edgy and nervous in the league. Hopefully we can take this into league."

Either Crystal Palace's forwards are tiring or Reading have got them sussed. Yannick Bolasie and Wilfried Zaha are not getting the sort of joy they had in the first half, and there is an element of frustration as Bolasie lazily balloons an effort well over.
