Former Reading and Palace boss Steve Coppell: "You couldn't ask for Palace to do anything differently. They are so quick on the counter-attack, it's in their DNA.

"After 45 minutes Reading will feel that they are well in the game. Before the game everyone was saying they were underdogs - but they didn't think so."

Yannick Bolasie has arguably been the best player on the pitch so far in this game. He and Emmanuel Adebayor are both playing a lot further up the pitch compared to their team-mates. Palace hoping to utilise Bolasie's pace, combined with Adebayor's ability to hold the ball up and provide knockdowns. They'll probably get more joy against a tiring Reading defence.

"Palace will be disappointed not to have taken at least one of those chances. Reading need potency up front, they are in the game but Palace look slick."

More poor finishing on show as Joe Ledley lashes over after Ali Al-Habsi fails to hold onto Yannick Bolasie's fierce strike.

Still, a bit of excitement as half-time approaches.

    Shocking goalkeeping, shocking finishing!

Wayne Hennessey fluffs his attempt to claw away a high ball into the box and Ola John pounces. With Hennessey nowhere, he has an empty net but the angle is difficult and he sweeps the ball into the sidenetting.

John was under a bit of pressure, but probably should have done a bit better there.

Crystal Palace have had the better chances, but when Reading have attacked the visitors' defence has looked a little more than suspect.

Ola John is given time to shoot inside the area, his effort is deflected behind and before Paul McShane's drive from the corner is blocked.

"He should score. I know he hasn't played much football in the last eight months but he's one on one with the goalkeeper and he's more than good enough to score from there."

Great work from Simon Cox as he uses his strength to fight off Damien Delaney on the flank. He's not the fastest so waits for support from his team-mates before passing to Ollie Norwood. The midfielder's ball for Stephen Quinn is a poor one, though, and trickles out of play on the other side of the pitch.

First booking of the game as Michael Hector tugs back Yannick Bolasie, who then sweeps a shot into the sidenetting soon after. Bolasie has arguably been the best player on the pitch so far.

    That's better!

After a pretty dull opening, the game suddenly springs to life as Palace have two chances in quick succession.

First Ali Al Habsi leaps to push away Yohan Cabaye's free-kick from 25 yards before Yannick Bolasie spins his marker and flashes a shot just wide from the corner.

Midway through the half and this encounter is yet to come alive, but the speed Crystal Palace switches defence to attack suggests it might not take long for things to get lively. The visitors break again through Yannick Bolasie and Wilfried Zaha, with the latter's shot blocked.

Reading have a corner now, though...

Not quite sure what Ollie Norwood is thinking as he passes the ball to Wilfried Zaha. That's the last man you want to give possession to as Zaha goes all roadrunner and accelerates towards the area, getting past the fullback and whipping an inviting ball across goal, but there's no-one there to get on the end of it.
