"Over the last couple of years recruitment wise Sunderland have not brought the right players in. They don't have a lot of Premier League experience. They find themselves in the same situation. Looking at the fixtures, they need a result at Norwich. Still five games remaining, but they have tough fixtures. This is a must win.

"You can blame as many managers as you want. It is not healthy to have as many managers as they have. As a club you have to analyse what you are about and the players they have brought in have not been good enough."

There will be many a Newcastle fan who will have felt like punching a wall this season. United defender Daryl Janmaat has provided a compelling reason why they probably shouldn't.

The 26-year-old will miss Saturday's visit of Swansea with two injuries, including broken fingers after reportedly punching a wall.

He also has a groin problem, picked up during the 3-1 loss at Southampton last weekend.

But was also left with two broken fingers, external and an arm in a sling after reportedly lashing out in the away dressing room at half-time.

"The Newcastle players have not been good enough this season. It is a team in trouble - one getting drubbings like they have. They were a soft touch under Steve McClaren. Jonjo Shelvey and Andros Townsend came in for big money. I hope to God the fans don't blame Mike Ashley as he has invested money."

I'm sure they won't John. Certain.

I grew up in the mid seventies. My brother is two years older and a far better footballer than me. We used to kick a ball round with his mate's. They were being Keegan, Toshack and others. I got the nickname Beamish after the centre forward of Port Vale who we are near to. Apparently he wasn't very good! I'm 48 now and still get called it by lads who used to kick the ball with us!

Most teenagers get in trouble for copy and pasting their previous work.

Manchester United striker Marcus Rashford is positively encouraged.

Take a look at his goal against West Ham in the FA Cup on Monday..

And compare it with the one he scored playing for United's under-17 side in the 2014 Milk Cup. It is third in on this little compilation.

Chelsea manager Guus Hiddink's claims that the Belgian attacker is "in a dark place" are pride of place on the back of the Daily Express.

"He was the number one and now he's at the end of a long row of players. That's difficult. What do you do?," said Hiddink.

The early stages of my football 'career' were spent upfront, where I quickly earnt the nickname Jigsaw... as I always fell to pieces in the box! I soon moved to centre half where I went on to be pretty successful.

Ander Herrera is set to miss Manchester United's game against Villa because of a foot injury sustained in Wednesday's FA Cup win at West Ham.

Wayne Rooney made his comeback from a knee injury as a late substitute in that game and could make his first league appearance for two months.

Villa's Gabby Agbonlahor is unavailable because of a lack of fitness.

Alan Hutton is available after a ban, while fit-again pair Jack Grealish and Adama Traore are pushing for recalls.

The light at the end of the tunnel of an otherwise underwhelming season for Manchester City is their continued presence in the Champions League. With PSG dealt with to book a first ever semi-final in the competition, City next face its most successful ever side: Real Madrid.

The draw offers up a few intriguing prospects: Cristiano Ronaldo's return to Manchester, Manuel Pellegrini's return to Madrid and the possibility that City may face the man that will be leading them next season in the final - Bayern Munich boss Pep Guardiola.

When you have been risking local lives by driving without a licence in a car that has windows that are too dark to look out of - and still you get wished good luck for the weekend by the magistrate as she hands you a £547 fine.

That was Newcastle striker Papiss Cisse's Friday.

Marquinhos to Chelsea? Or Man United?

Manchester United and Chelsea have both expressed interest in signing Paris St-Germain defender Marquinhos, who is valued at about £40m, according to the Daily Telegraph., external

A lot of money for someone who can't displace David Luiz? Or a worthwhile investment for two clubs who either are short of numbers or a little elderly in that position?

That, and the rest of today's gossip, is right over here.

Stringer Bell and Robb Stark? If I was Lawro, I'd let them win with the predictions this week.

Yep, Lawro's opponents for this weekend's Premier League fixtures are actors Idris Elba and Richard Madden, formerly of the Wire and Game of Thrones and currently starring in new film 'Bastille Day'.

Arsenal fan Elba took the lead on the predictions as because Madden says he is "more of a rugby man".
