Old Bobby Martinez is one of the nicest men in the footballing business. But that hasn't stopped some Everton fans getting on his back.

A section of Toffees supporters are unhappy with their team's Premier League results, particularly because they haven't won any of their past four top-flight games at Goodison.

The Everton manager, after his side failed to hold onto their lead against Southampton,  says he "absolutely understands" their frustration.

"Looking at our results at home, they are not anywhere near what is expected," says the Spaniard. "We need to turn that around starting with understanding the responsibility of being at Everton is to win games on a consistent basis. We haven’t been producing the results and I accept the unrest."

That is not an unusually-shaped piece of grit on your screen Scott. Newcastle did indeed score three.

Swansea midfielder Leroy Fer: "When we were 1-0 down we could have made it 1-1. We had to finish our chances. We need to look at ourselves and get better for the next game at Leicester. We need to forget this game really quick."

  6. We showed incredible fight - Martinezpublished at 17:25 British Summer Time 16 April 2016

    Everton 1-1 Southampton

Everton manager Roberto Martinez on his injury-hit side being denied three points by Southampton's 76th-minute equaliser: "When you have to make five or six changes you look disjointed and rusty, and we needed time to find our normal rhythm.

"We overcame that with incredible fight and determination to get a positive result. But the disappointment is when we go ahead and we don't win. We got really stretched as a squad and we found a way to compete against a good Southampton side."

  11. 'I thought I might get stick'published at 17:20 British Summer Time 16 April 2016

    Newcastle 3-0 Swansea

    Newcastle goalscorer Jamaal Lascelles:

"It's a massive result for us. The boys had a kick up the backside after last week's loss to Southampton. Everyone knows we've got the talent, but today we showed how good we are and we stuck to the gameplan. After the early goal the fans were excellent. I thought I might get stick in the changing room after I had a go at my team-mates. I was going to say it sooner or later. The frustrating thing is we should have been playing like that earlier in the season."

  12. Point not a step forward - Koemanpublished at 17:18 British Summer Time 16 April 2016

    Everton 1-1 Southampton

Saints boss Ronald Koeman after his side slipped five points behind fifth-placed Manchester United: "I'm really disappointed because it was a big opportunity to win the game, right from the start. We had a lot of space to play but in the final part it wasn't good enough. The system we played was very offensive with four strikers, you expect to put on more pressure and create chances to score. We didn't do that in the first half.

"At least we had a good reaction to going behind. At least we got one point but at this final part of the season it is not enough. We want to fight for Europe and it is not a step forward."

Aston Villa caretaker manager Eric Black: "It's a mood of disappointment. What I will say is today I thought they were outstanding. Energy levels, desire to stick to the plan. But for some misfortune I thought we could have got a draw. Since I arrived the boys have been outstanding. I know there has been criticism, some of it deserved but today they made a step back for the supporters and showed there was some pride for the shirt.

"There are players in there capable of playing in the Championship. People in certain places will make sure athat Villa will come back, I'm confident of that and that process has to start now.

"I would like to be part of it. I've enjoyed working at Villa and it's a fantastic club but that's not important at the moment."

  15. 'It's a make or break week'published at 17:14 British Summer Time 16 April 2016

    Newcastle 3-0 Swansea

Newcastle goalscorer Andros Townsend speaking to BBC's Match of the Day:

"It's been a long time coming. We thoroughly deserved it today. The hard work on the training field has come to fruition. The manager's ideas finally clicked into place.

"When you play away from home it's always difficult but at home it's different. The fans were great. It's massively important to build on this - it's a make or break week. Now on Tuesday the fans will be on our side and hopefully it'll be a great night at St James' Park. Having four out of the last six games at home is massive."

Tuesday? Newcastle's game in hand on fourth-bottom Norwich. The Magpies host Manchester City at St James' Park.

  17. 'Chelsea have a point to prove'published at 17:11 British Summer Time 16 April 2016

Chelsea v Man City (17:30 BST)

    Jonathan Pearce
Match of the Day commentator at Stamford Bridge

"Chelsea should be celebrating Manchester City's run to the Champions League semi-finals. It virtually ensures that English clubs will stay ahead of Italy in Uefa's coefficient table, external for a couple more seasons at least - guaranteeing the Premier League four places at Europe's top table.

"Now, though, Chelsea have a point to prove. Playing for their future under Antonio Conte, they'll be determined to maintain Guus Hiddink's unbeaten home league record. But they look jaded again.

"City need to ensure a top-four finish of course. Aguero needs to start scoring regularly again - he has two in nine in all for club and country. Kevin De Bruyne, brilliant against PSG, is ready to show Chelsea what they let go."

Aston Villa defender Joleon Lescott: "Very subdued. We knew before the game what we had to do but coming to Old Trafford is never easy no matter what situation you're in. "Throughout the game we showed a level of pride that there's probably not been enough of throughout the season.

"It's about results so regardless of how we played in patches today we are relegated. We need to find a way to get out of this run of defeats. Now it's confirmed maybe it's a weight off the shoulders and we can give these fans what they deserve, some performances.

"Throughout the season we have given reasons for people to jump on us. It's part of football, we have to take that on the chin. It's a tough time at the minute. At the back of our minds is next season to get promoted. I'm here for as long as Aston Villa want me."
