It seemed inevitable that Southampton would score the opener...but they haven't. Everton have.

A corner from the right creeps to the far post where Ramiro Funes Mori - at the second opportunity - drills low into the Saints net. But the Argentine defender's effort needs a huge deflection off Ryan Bertrand to take it past Fraser Forster.

Everton on their way to ending a miserable run of three straight home defeats,

"It was quite a satisfactory performance from Wayne Rooney, from an England point of view ahead of the Euros."

  4. MISSED PENALTYpublished at 16:26 British Summer Time 16 April 2016

    West Brom 0-1 Watford

Heurelho Gomes saves a penaltyImage source, Reuters

Berahino v Gomes again... Gomes wins! The keeper makes amends for giving away the spot-kick by diving low to his right to save Berahino's effort. Baggies players converge to try and finish off the rebound by the Hornets defence are quicker to the ball. It was a poor penalty - too close to the keeper.

    Everton 0-0 Southampton

Everton are living dangerously as you can see. Yes they are getting a fair share of the ball but Southampton are the side on top. In all, Southampton have had 13 shots, the home side three.

  6. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 16:26 British Summer Time 16 April 2016

    Everton 0-0 Southampton

Still little to report from Goodison. Ross Barkley, who was a pre-match injury doubt, comes on for Gerard Deulofeu. Let's see if the England midfielder can lift the home side...

  7. PENALTYpublished at 16:24 British Summer Time 16 April 2016

    West Brom 0-1 Watford

The Baggies given a potential lifeline as Gomes slides out and takes down Saido Berahino after the striker had broken the offside trap.

    Newcastle 1-0 Swansea

Will Swans boss Francesco Guidolin still be in South Wales next season? Hmmm. The shadow of Brendan Rodgers seems to be looming. Anyway, the Italian - sensibly wearing a woolly hat (it's still cold on Tyneside even when the sun is shining) - gees his side on from the touchline. They are not creating much.

  9. Send United down a blind alleypublished at 16:23 British Summer Time 16 April 2016

    Man Utd 1-0 Aston Villa

One wonders why teams do not target Daley Blind more when Manchester United have the ball. He has seen more of the ball than any player on the pitch today, playing 68 passes from his position as the left-sided central defender, completing 87%.

Surely if he is pressed teams can fluster United in an area where they like to begin attacks.

  10. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 16:23 British Summer Time 16 April 2016

    Man Utd 1-0 Aston Villa

Wayne Rooney's afternoon is done. He departs to be replaced by Jesse Lingard. It has not exactly been the most strenuous work-out for Rooney but what he has needed to do he has done well.

    West Brom 0-1 Watford

West Brom are putting Watford under pressure now as they go in search of an equaliser. Salomon Rondon attempts an acrobatic effort but it is blocked by a Hornets defender.

  12. It's getting tense...published at 16:20 British Summer Time 16 April 2016

    Newcastle 1-0 Swansea

If we take a look at the action areas in the past five minutes we can see Swansea are now dominating the ball. There could be some nervy moments to come for home fans if their side decide to take what they've got...

    Man Utd 1-0 Aston Villa

United go close to a second. Juan Mata is in acres of space at the near post to be found by a low corner but his shot is blocked by Brad Guzan. Not sure the Villa keeper knew much about that.

    Newcastle 1-0 Swansea

Still so quiet at St James'. That's nerves and tension for you. How about channelling it through some vocal chord-stretching singing, home fans? Swansea pinging the ball about neatly in the past few minutes, but not troubling Toon keeper Karl Darlow.

Newcastle within a win of fourth-bottom Norwich, remember, if they cling on to this advantage.

  15. Championship updatepublished at 16:18 British Summer Time 16 April 2016

MK Dons have clawed their way back by making it 1-1 against Preston, but a win would give them even more hope of avoiding the drop.

Huddersfield are 2-0 up now at Blackburn, while Leeds and Reading are locked at 1-1 at Elland Road.

    Man Utd 1-0 Aston Villa

One-sided affair at Old Trafford? You'd better believe it. You see, to score goals you usually need to have men in the opponent's half on a regular basis...

    West Brom 0-1 Watford

Ben Foster shakes hands with Troy DeeneyImage source, Reuters

Brilliant from Ben Foster. He pulls out an absolute stormer of a finger-tip save to prevent Troy Deeney making it 2-0 with a shot from inside the box. The West Brom defence was nowhere to be seen.

  18. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 16:15 British Summer Time 16 April 2016

    Everton 0-0 Southampton

Everton fans, look away. Republic of Ireland fans, cross those fingers.

Toffees right-back Seamus Coleman clutches the back of his right hamstring, signalling to the bench that his afternoon is over. Doubt that is season-ending but you never know.

On comes teenager Callum Connolly for his senior debut, earning a huge cheer as he clears away a Saints set-piece with his first touch.

Brace yourselves for the next group of words... brilliant play from Memphis Depay. Yep, you read that right. The forward skips through two players on the left and curls a cross with the outside of his boot between keeper and defence. All it needed was a team-mate to take a gamble.

  20. HITS THE WOODWORKpublished at 16:12 British Summer Time 16 April 2016

    Everton 0-0 Southampton

Less spark in this game than there is in an awkward date. Oh wait...Southampton lay on the charm. Dusan Tadic cuts in from the right, smashing a left-foot shot against the bar.
