Now is that a penalty? No! Ayoze Perez is felled by a diving challenge from Connor Randall in the box. The away fans scream for a spot-kick but telling the United players offer little protest when one isn't given.

Penalty? No! Roberto Firmino's cross strikes Paul Dummett's arm, preventing it reaching the gathering Reds in the box. The referee waves away the protests. I've seen them given. 

Daniel Ljunggren: A bag of gummy worms would have more bite than Newcastle’s forward line. It's just pathetic how bad we are up front.

Newcastle have lost their last nine away games in the Premier League. I can only see this being a 10th. They've barely been in the half of Liverpool, who haven't really had to shift out of second gear yet.

Take a bow Alberto Moreno. He has his back to goal near his own goal-line but flicks the ball past his marker and breaks past him down the left. It is all too easy for the home side.

Newcastle have another corner. This time they take it short and move the ball central but a floated ball into the box comes to nothing as a result of Ayoze Perez's foul on marker Joe Allen. Mignolet remains untested.

Newcastle are having to bust a gut to keep Liverpool in check here. The Reds break down the right again and the attack is only ended when Roberto Firmino's heavy touch runs out of play.

Newcastle finally have a chance to create something from a corner, but Andros Townsend's inswinging delivery is cleared at the near post.

Tiote then goes into the book for a foul on Adam Lallana. First booking of the match.

Liverpool scythe forward again down the right and only Cheick Tiote's interception in the box prevents Adam Lallana's cross finding one of two unmarked team-mates in the box.

Newcastle have yet to give any sign that Simon Mignolet's goal will be placed under any threat today. 

Daniel Sturridge fancies another goal at the other end but his shot from distance is high and wide.

Newcastle are all over the place at the back. A cross comes in from the left and Roberto Firmino has a sniff during the chaos that ensues before finally the away side smuggle the ball away.

Lovren is OK. He is still rubbing his neck as he returns to the pitch following treatment.

Now Dejan Lovren is down and clearly in some pain. He has clocked a blow to the throat from Papiss Cisse and is gasping for breath. These stoppages have prevented either team finding any kind of fluency. To be fair, though, Newcastle needed a bit of time to regroup.

Mamadou Sakho is here and watching from the stands. How long will it be before we see him back out on the pitch, though?

By the way, how serious does Christian Benteke look sat next to him?

It is very encouraging from an England point of view to see Sturridge looking so sharp. He has now scored in each of his last three games and has six in his last 11 appearances. No need to book a holiday this summer Daniel.
