County are in the League Cup final for the first time. They won the Challenge Cup, for sides outwith the top flight, twice - in 2007 and 2011 - but have yet to win a major final.

The closest they have come so far was being losing Scottish Cup finalists in 2010, when the side at the time in the second tier lost to top-flight Dundee United 3-0.

  3. Hibs' previouspublished at 14:19 Greenwich Mean Time 13 March 2016

Should they defeat County, Hibs will become only the third club outwith the top flight to have lifted the Scottish League Cup.

Hibs have won the League Cup three times previously - 1972-73, 19991-92 and 2006-07 - in nine final appearances.

No wonder that manager Alan Stubbs is suggesting there could be "some incredible scenes" from the Edinburgh club's fans should they come out on top.

"Everybody who is available right now is involved.

"In football, you don't get many opportunities and we've got opportunities.

I know they are ready to take that opportunity and the players are going to give it everything they can.

"They have done great up until now and all I have asked that they give 100%.

"I was fortunate as a player who had this opportunity and there are better players than me who have not, so that is why you have to enjoy."

  11. High Hibs hopespublished at 14:07 Greenwich Mean Time 13 March 2016

Hibs' hopes of winning the Championship title appear to have slipped away in recent weeks as Rangers have consolidated their place at the top of the able.

But Alan Stubbs' side could still win promotion via the play-offs and still have a chance to win the Scottish Cup, in which they face Inverness Caledonian Thistle in a quarter-final replay.

Before their thoughts turn to those battles, today's League Cup final at Hampden Park awaits.

  12. Brink of historypublished at 14:03 Greenwich Mean Time 13 March 2016

Another historic landmark in the rise of Ross County could be a few hours away, the day when the Dingwall club win their first major cup competition.

Standing in their way are a Hibernian side looking to lift the Scottish League Cup for the fourth time and retain their own hopes of a unique treble.
