    Jermain Defoe (70 mins)

    Amazing. Sunderland lead.

Deandre Yedlin's cross is deflected into the path of - guess who? - Jermain Defoe, who is hovering near the penalty spot. He takes a touch, and buries his shot past Thibaut Courtois.

  2. goal

GOAL - Sunderland 2-2 Chelseapublished at 67 mins

    Fabio Borini (67 mins)

The Stadium of Light is bouncing now - the Black Cats are level.

Patrick van Aanholt's pull-back finds Fabio Borini on the edge of the area and his fierce strike nicks off John Terry, with Thibaut Courtois getting a hand to it but failing to keep it out.

  3. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 65 mins

    Sunderland 1-2 Chelsea

Another Sunderland change, and this time it is an attacking one - Jan Kirchhoff off, Duncan Watmore on.

  4. Postpublished at 64 mins

    Sunderland 1-2 Chelsea

Another Sunderland corner, and they do have a shot this time... well, sort of.

Thibaut Courtois punches clear, as far as Lee Cattemole on the edge of the area, but he slices his shot a mile high and wide. They will have to do much better than that in front of goal...

  5. GREAT SAVE!published at 62 mins

    Sunderland 1-2 Chelsea

At the other end, Chelsea are not struggling for shots - far from it.

A neat move sees the ball played through to Diego Costa, in space, about 12 yards from goal, but Vito Mannone is off his line sharply to make another vital block, and keep his side in the game.

    Sunderland 1-2 Chelsea

Hmmm, I'm not sure if that counts as an effort at goal - Wahbi Khazri sent the corner in, and Jan Kirchhoff flicked out a hopeful leg at the near post, but he sent it away from the Chelsea goal, not towards it.

  7. Postpublished at 56 mins

    Sunderland 1-2 Chelsea

We are approaching the hour mark and Sunderland are still yet to have a shot at goal in this second half. They just do not have the same zip as Chelsea when they come forward, although they have just won a corner... their first of the match.

  8. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 54 mins

    Sunderland 1-2 Chelsea

A first change for Sunderland, and it is like for like... John O'Shea replacing Lamine Kone at the back. Not sure what is behind that one, because Kone did not appear to be injured.

  9. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 53 mins

    Sunderland 1-2 Chelsea

Chelsea's passing is definitely slicker than Sunderland's, but the Black Cats have more bite when it comes to getting the ball back.

  10. YELLOW CARDpublished at 52 mins

    Sunderland 1-2 Chelsea

Eden Hazard goes for goal himself here, darting into space... but he is stopped in his tracks by a late Lee Cattermole lunge. That's a booking for the Sunderland midfielder and some lengthy treatment for Hazard.

"That is a stunning chance for Diego Costa. It is a good save from Mannone but Costa should score."

  12. Postpublished at 49 mins

    Sunderland 1-2 Chelsea

Mind you, Chelsea remain dangerous too. Diego Costa escapes the Sunderland defence and runs on to Eden Hazard's pass... but is denied by Vito Mannone's block.

    Sunderland 1-2 Chelsea

Other than the header that hit the post, with the offside flag already up, Jermain Defoe has been quiet in front of goal so far - that is his only 'effort' at goal (and it wouldn't have counted anyway).

He still looks lively, mind, and is not far away from a Deandre Yedlin cross when it bounces through to him at the far post. With him on the pitch, Sunderland still have a chance.

  14. KICK-OFFpublished at 16:03

    Sunderland 1-2 Chelsea

Sunderland get the second half started - this is a big 45 minutes for their survival hopes.

No changes from either side at the break.

    Dion Dublin
Former Leicester and Aston Villa forward on Final Score

"Sunderland have been hard done by. But if you switch off at any time when you're playing against quality you will be hurt.

"The Black Cats are not out of this game, and if they continue doing what they're doing they'll be OK."

"You don't expect Matic to make that run. If Sunderland are going to press high then they have to follow the runners."

  20. goal

GOAL Sunderland 1-2 Chelseapublished at 48 mins

    Nemanja Matic (48 mins)

Amazing. All that hard work, and a spectacular strike, to level... and Sunderland throw it all away on the stroke of half-time.

The Black Cats seem to switch off at the back and Nemanja Matic is in acres of space to run through on to a Cesar Azpilicueta header and slot home through Vito Mannone's legs with the last kick of the half.
