In the last few moments, the final whistle has gone at Carrow Road, and Norwich's 1-0 defeat by Manchester United has made the picture a little clearer at the bottom of the Premier League.

Basically, seven points from their final three games is likely to be enough to keep Sunderland up thanks to their superior goal difference, even if Newcastle win their last two games and also reach 39 points.

Three wins would make absolutely sure, though. After today, Sunderland are at home to Everton on Wednesday and then away at Watford on the final day...

"Nothing can be settled today in terms of relegation, but time is running out so there's no margin for error. Sunderland are the team with destiny in their own hands.

"Whoever gets relegated, financially it will be a massive, massive hit. Next season the team that finishes bottom of the Premier League will still receive £90m.

    "Today, therefore, is pivotal."

Chelsea manager Guus Hiddink makes two changes, with Thibaut Courtois back in goal after his suspension and Eden Hazard, who was ever so lively when he came off the bench against Tottenham on Monday, replacing Pedro.

Is it now or never for Sunderland? We are getting to that stage where a good performance counts for nothing - they just need a win.

Are Chelsea, safe in mid-table, the ideal opponents for a team battling for survival? Possibly, although not if they put in the same sort of effort they did on Monday against Spurs...
