  1. Second or third?published at 11:22 British Summer Time 15 May 2016

It was the year Andy Cole was bought by Manchester United for a British record £7m, Blackburn became the Premier League champions and the Queen Mother, aged 95, had a hip replacement operation. Quaint times.

Yep, it was back in 1995 that Tottenham last finished above Arsenal in the Premier League table. Could today be the day they do so again?

  2. Happy St Totteringham’s day?published at 14:30

For the last 20 years Arsenal have finished above Tottenham in the league.

The Gunners' supremacy over their north London rivals has been as regular and predictable as an Arsenal title challenge faltering in January.

But this has been a wacky old season and Tottenham could end a brilliantly successful campaign in second, ahead of the old enemy.

But perhaps in keeping with this season's wackiness would be Arsenal stealing second spot on the final day.

  3. Albion's Hillsborough tributepublished at 14:45

West Brom v Liverpool (15:00 BST)

West Brom have arranged a pre-match tribute before this afternoon's game following the recent verdicts which found the 96 victims of the Hillsborough tragedy were unlawfully killed.

The club have replaced 96 blue seats in the visiting fans section with the red of Liverpool, each to remain unoccupied and each to carry a name of one of the victims.

Read more about the tribute here., external

And if you haven't seen it already, I can't recommend the recent BBC documentary enough...

A league ground again next season?

Today isn't all about the Premier League, of course. This afternoon also sees the first play-off final of the season as Forest Green and Grimsby battle it out for a place in the Football League.

Sacha Baron Cohen's favourites Grimsby - who were in the Championship as recently as 2003 - have been in the Conference since 2010 while Forest Green have never tasted league football.

Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini reflects on his time in charge:"During the three seasons, the fans always tell me that they enjoy our games.

"It's about a style, and for me it's important to be the highest-scoring team for three seasons, to be always in the Champions League and to win three titles."

  9. This Charming Manpublished at 10:53 British Summer Time 15 May 2016

Swansea v Manchester City (15:00 BST)

We are unlikely to see the 'This Charming Man' banner which usually hangs from the Etihad's north stand again as the Manuel Pellegrini era comes to an end this afternoon.

The Chilean has won three trophies in three years at City, but the experienced manager will make way for Pep Guardiola next season - though it is not yet certain whether the much-admired Catalan will be guiding his team in the Champions League next season.

All City have to do this afternoon to secure Champions League football is to avoid defeat at Swansea.

"For a big team, if you don’t qualify for the Champions League it is a disaster,” Pellegrini has said. "I don’t think it matters for one year, as happened to United in 2014 and Chelsea this season, but it is not the best thing for it to happen over a number of years.”

  11. May the fourth be with youpublished at 10:44 British Summer Time 15 May 2016

Manchester Untied v Bournemouth (15:00 BST)

Where were we? Ah, yes, LVG... Will today be the Manchester United boss' last match in charge of Manchester United? What if United finish outside the top four?

Former United midfielder Paul Scholes has called his old club a "shambles" and "disaster" this season but despite it all they could finish with a Champions League spot and an FA Cup, which wouldn't be so bad.

What makes the fourth-placed tussle so intriguing is that it is a battle between city rivals, between two of the wealthiest clubs in the Premier League, two teams who had hoped for so much more at the beginning of the season.

To secure a top-four finish Van Gaal's men must beat Bournemouth and hope Swansea see off Manchester City at the Liberty Stadium. Impossible? No. Likely? The odds are against them.

First a look at what the national newspapers have to say this morning. The Mail on Sunday's main football story is Louis van Gaal sticking the knife into the club's former players.

"Louis van Gaal will hold club legend Paul Scholes responsible if he gets the sack at Old Trafford this summer," says the paper. , external
