  2. 'The whole picture is a fantastic journey'published at 22:37 British Summer Time 3 July 2016

    France 5-2 Iceland

Iceland co-coach Lars Lagerback: "France are a very good team, all respect to them, but in the first half I think we were a bit paralysed or passive, I don't know if it was because we were so close to something big that influenced them, it's difficult to say, but respect to how they turned it round in the second half. France maybe took a bit of the power off but we showed we can really play.

"Coming as a newcomer and getting to the quarter-finals, the players have done a marvellous job, even if it's disappointing now, the whole picture is a fantastic journey.

"Iceland's future looks good. There are some young players here, and if everyone stays in good clubs or even better clubs, the future looks really positive.

"I'm very proud. All of this four and a half years we have developed the whole time. It's been so easy being the coach of this team, a privilege and a fantastic journey, this has been really something extra."

It'd be a bad idea for #ISL, external to fly straight home tomorrow. Need to give the rest of the country a head start or nobody there to greet them.

  11. 'France are determined'published at 22:23 British Summer Time 3 July 2016

    France 5-2 Iceland

France midfielder Paul Pogba: "It was a good match, a great victory, we scored five goals, and we're pleased to be in the semis, against Germany it will be nice game.

"I was pretty good out there but wherever the coach picks me I give 100%. I'm not going to say we'll score five goals every game but we're really pleased. In the last matches we started slowly, we did drop the tempo towards the end but you need to start and finish well, we'll try and take that in the next game.

"France are determined. We want to win because we're the hosts but Germany will also want to win. We haven achieved anything yet, we're going to take our time, focus on the next game, and try to get into the final."

Iceland midfielder Gylfi Sigurdsson: "We're very proud. It's been a fantastic tournament, something special for a small team like us, we probably achieved something no one expected us to.

"It gives the kids back home hope that something like this is possible, and hopefully we'll be back in another finals. Ten or 15 players are a really good age, and we're already looking forward to the World Cup starting. Hopefully the future will be bright for Iceland."

    France 5-2 Iceland

France striker Olivier Giroud: "We’re very pleased, we scored five goals, although we did concede a couple we had a lot of fun and are pleased with our performance. We're going to try and erase a few of these small defensive mistakes, because against Germany we’d pay a heavy price.

"Are we confident? No, because they are the world champions and favourites. But we’d like to write another chapter in French football history.

"We came out fighting right from the outset. That was a little bit where we’ve been struggling since the start of the tournament."

    Danny Mills
Ex-England defender at the Stade de France for BBC Radio 5 live

In the first game France had a bit of scare but if they get past Germany, which won't be easy, you have to say they'll be favourites against either Wales or Portugal in the final.

Iceland, now they have to look to qualify for Russia. This group of players can do that, they'll have a huge amount of confidence from this run.

  20. 'We won the second half'published at 22:04 British Summer Time 3 July 2016

    France 5-2 Iceland

Iceland striker Kolbeinn Sigthorsson: "Our defending didn't work out as we wanted, but it’s not strange that we’re tired after so many games with the same squad. We got back into it in the second half, we showed a lot of character to do that, and we're really happy that we won the second half."
