Northern Ireland are pushing everyone forward. They win a throw on the left and suddenly there's plenty of white and green shirts in Wales box. Wayne Hennesey strides off his line to catch the long throw,

Up goes the fourth official's board. Four minutes of stoppage time.

Stop-start stuff on the pitch with substitutions and that stoppage for the collision of the two Williams. Michael O'Neill looks frustrated on the touchline. Can his side muster something? Time is running out.

Ashley Williams sits down, clutching his side. Surely he can't continue? James Collins prepares to come on but suddenly Williams has got his second wind and screams 'I'm fine' to the bench. I wouldn't argue with him.

Gregory Mandapat: Nothing McAuley could do about that. If he didn't get there, Robson-Kanu would have scored. Great cross from Bale to set it up

Ibster: Unlucky McAuley #NIR, external own goal is the worst thing to happen to a defender.

  7. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 83 mins

    Wales 1-0 Northern Ireland

Northern Ireland are going for broke. They have to.

Gareth McAuley, scorer of that unfortunate own goal, trudges off and Kilmarnock striker Josh Magennis is on in his place. Three up top, three in defence for Northern Ireland.

Meanwhile, Jonny Williams and Ashley Williams are back up and good to go after that collision.

Whenever Bale has been out on the left side he's come more into the game. This time he's been given time and space to play the ball and it's a fantastic ball.

    Wales 1-0 Northern Ireland

    John Hartson

Bale and Ramsey took it down the left. Bale whips it into an area where McAuley has to try and make a challenge. He has Robson-Kanu behind but it comes off McAuley's studs and in. He has to make the challenge otherwise Robson-Kanu taps it in.

Bale had time and he had space. He whips it into a magnificent area in front of the keeper and behind the defence.

GOAL - Wales 1-0 Northern Irelandpublished at 75 mins

    Gareth McAuley OG

Oh heartbreak for Northern Ireland! They've been resolute and strong in defence but the one moment they let Gareth Bale slip away they are punished.

Bale gets away down the left and whips in a devil of a cross, low and hard, in front of goal and Gareth McAuley sticks out a boot in an attempt to clear, but ends up poking it into his own net.

He had no choice, with Hal Robson-Kanu right behind him. Very unfortunate for the defender but great news for Wales, who are 15 minutes away from the quarter-finals!

  20. Coleman's gamblepublished at 18:26 British Summer Time 25 June 2016

    Dafydd Pritchard
BBC Sport Wales at Parc des Princes

Wales manager Chris Coleman looks agitated on the touchline and it is no wonder, given how tense a game this has been.

He has made his second substitution and it's a bold one, replacing holding midfielder Joe Ledley with the more attacking Jonny Williams.

Coleman has also introduced Hal Robson-Kanu, who came off the bench to score the winner in their opening game against Slovakia.

More of the same? Wales fans have their fingers crossed.
