Little response from Barcelona yet. In fact, it is Valencia who are still looking to attack...

Looks like that Valencia goal took a massive deflection off Barca midfielder Ivan Rakitic. The Croatian, who slid in to try to stop Siqueira's delivery, won't be in a hurry to claim it.

Johnny Magrinho: For all the money & 'superstars' Barca & Real have, I love how competitive Atleti are every season. Seriously underrated.

Sense of shock around the Camp Nou following that Valencia opener. Gerard Pique tries to gee up his team-mates - and the crowd - by shouting and bawling a message of encouragement. Big test for Barca now...

Ah. Only a matter of time until Barca score, I said...

Well it is only a matter of time until someone scored...but it is Valencia! Los Che full-back Guilherme Siqueira scampers forward into space in the left channel of the Barca box, then somehow beats Claudio Bravo from the tightest of angles, with the aid of a deflection off Ivan Rakitic.

    Barcelona 0-0 Valencia

Lionel Messi has not been in thick of the action so far - but could still have scored two. A long-ranger is beaten clear by Valencia keeper Diego Alves. Only a matter of time until Barca score, I reckon.

How has this not gone in?? The corner is swung in from the right, Javier Mascherano popping up at the near post to flick goalwards. Luis Suarez is lurking on the goal-line, jumps to meet it...but loops his instinctive header over.

On your marks, get set, go....

Barca forward Luis Suarez and Valencia defender Shkodran Mustafi hurtle after a long ball, the away man just winning the race to concede a corner...

That Valencia chance has quietened the Camp Nou down. Barca just in danger of losing that early impetus.

It's all been one-way traffic so far - and then the lights change. Valencia rev into action, Rodrigo picked out by Enzo Perez on the edge of the Barca box. But he rushes his effort, curling just past the far post. Warning sign.

Who will win La Liga - and why?

Kris Jefferson: Atletico to win it for me, most balanced team, Real and Barca too attack orientated with poorer defences.

Badz: I hope Real Madrid do it for all the hard work Zidane has put in since takin charge but I think Atleti will snatch the league.

Oh lovely! Neymar springs forward to beat the Valencia offside trap, then tries to dink the ball over away keeper Diego Alves. Not enough loft! A jumping Alves is able to thump the ball away, batting it clear like he's on a volleyball court.

Another minute...another Barca chance. Jordi Alba gallops forward down the left, sweeping in a low cross between keeper and defence. The footballing equivalent of Geoff Boycott's 'corridor of uncertainty'. Luis Suarez slides in towards the stumps..sorry, the goal...just failing to connect.

Daniel Weintraub: Messi is the current best natural ever player. CR7 is the current most hard working player. Whether you think natural or hard working deserves to be the best. Well ..... that is your decision. But I'm privileged to watch and grow up with two legends playing against each other at least twice a season.

Messi....misses! A golden chance for the golden boy to bag his 500th career goal. Luis Suarez dinks over to the far post where Messi is lurking unmarked(?!). A control with the chest is followed by a prod of the left boot, but it is only straight at Valencia keeper Diego Alves.

Valencia, as we expected, sitting rather deep and packing plenty of white shirts behind the ball. A couple of moments of panic as Barca threaten, Sergio Roberto failing to connect cleanly from 10 yards, seconds before Luis Suarez scoops over the crossbar from a tight angle.

Lionel Messi starts out on that right flank. But will he stick there or get tempted to come inside? The Barca talisman hasn't scored in FIVE games remember (that's a drought in his world), his next goal to be a landmark 500th in his career.

Messi pings a long ball crossfield towards Neymar, but it has too much pace on it for the Brazil forward to catch.
