  1. 'Good pressure from Brighton'published at 17 mins

    Middlesbrough 0-0 Brighton

    Terry Butcher
Ex-England captain at Riverside Stadium, Radio 5 live sports extra

"Do you know how long it's been since Brighton played in the top flight? Quite a while... because I played against them!

"Good pressure at the moment from the Seagulls. Their 4-4-2 system is working very well and they have settled down. If anything you'd say that Middlesbrough, who have made a few changes, look the more unsettled.

"Mind you, no real chances as yet and pretty even-stevens. This game needs just one spark of brilliance."

I'm concentrating on the Championship's final day here, but up in the Premier League, the race for a Champions League spot is just as intriguing as the second tier's promotion battle.

Manchester City, Manchester United and West Ham are all in contention for fourth place in the closing weeks of the season.

United have the chance to strike first - they will close to within one point of City with victory at Norwich today.

Follow live text and radio commentary of that game here.

    Middlesbrough 0-0 Brighton

Another Brighton free-kick, this time in a shooting position. Dale Stephens' effort is deflected behind for a corner, which the home side clear.

The Seagulls, needing to win to be promoted, are edging the opening stages.

    Middlesbrough 0-0 Brighton

Brighton get a free-kick inside the Middlesbrough half and send their big defenders forward. Anthony Knockaert then tries to play it short and loses possession.

I used to hate that when I played centre-back - racing forward 60 yards to try to get on the end of a set-piece and then trudging back disconsolately having got nowhere near it.

    These skillful attacking players, eh?

  5. What price the Premier League?published at 10 mins

Estimates vary as to how much promotion to the Premier League is worth.

With the new TV deal next season, it's conservatively worth £170m, but that's just the broadcast cash.

When you add in increased sponsorship, commercial revenue, gate receipts, marketing and the like, it's considerably more.

And when you think Floyd Mayweather took home $100m for beating Manny Pacquiao last year, the £200m-plus payday for getting out of the Championship gives it a good shot at being the richest single sporting event in history.

    Warren Aspinall
    Ex-Brighton striker on BBC Sussex

"The Brighton players will do us proud and I think the Premier League is where they deserve. If Brighton can get the first goal, great, but if not they must get the second is the most important."

  7. Postpublished at 7 mins

    Middlesbrough 0-0 Brighton

It's a big call from Middlesbrough head coach Aitor Karanka to leave out both Stewart Downing and Jordan Rhodes - arguably Boro's two biggest signings of the season.

David Nugent and Cristhian Stuani are more than able deputies - can they repay Karanka's faith?

    Middlesbrough 0-0 Brighton

Middlesbrough, with a barnstorming forward run from Cristhian Stuani, prove they won't be shy in attacking either, here.

Stuani overruns the ball and clatters into Brighton defender Connor Goldson, conceding a free-kick inside the visitors' half.

    Middlesbrough 0-0 Brighton

Brighton attacking early on. They have to win, remember. A draw is enough for Boro to go up.

The visitors create the first opening through the elusive Anthony Knockaert, who creates space on the right and wins a corner, which eventually comes to nothing.

  10. 'The atmosphere is white hot'published at 1 min

    Terry Butcher
Ex-England captain at Riverside Stadium, Radio 5 live sports extra

"It's a cold old day here, but the atmosphere is white hot.

"Both sides have had opportunities to secure that automatic promotion spot, but both teams have failed to do it. It shows both clubs have nerves, have weaknesses.

"Here, it's absolutely bouncing. It's rowdy and raucous."

It's deafening inside the Riverside Stadium.

Two teams for one automatic promotion place. How are the nerves, boys and girls?

The £170m match is under way.

  12. Remembering a Boro legendpublished at 12:31 British Summer Time 7 May 2016

    Middlesbrough v Brighton (12:30 BST)

    Matt Newsum
BBC Sport at the Riverside Stadium

"A passionate and touching video of late Middlesbrough commentator Ali Brownlee is played out on the big screen here and huge applause follows.

"There's a palpable nervousness, excitement and butterflies around the ground. For the victors, the riches and glory are vast; the play-offs and another three gruelling games follow for whoever misses out.

"However, the teams are going through their routines as normal. Whoever can deal with the emotion and the nerves the best will come away with the spoils."

The teams are on their way out onto the field at the Riverside Stadium. What an atmosphere.

Red and white flags waving all around the stadium - apart from the section housing the army of Brighton fans that have travelled a long, long way to watch their team on Teesside.

In 22 home games this season, Middlesbrough have conceded only seven goals.

    Seven.

    A ridiculously good defensive record.

Brighton must breach the Boro defence today to stand any chance of winning automatic promotion.

Brighton initially struggled for goals this season but have found the net regularly in the closing weeks of the campaign.

They're now the top scorers in the division and have netted at least once in each of their last nine Championship games.

  18. The managers' viewspublished at 12:24 British Summer Time 7 May 2016

    Middlesbrough v Brighton (12:30 BST)

Middlesbrough head coach Aitor Karanka told BBC Tees: "I don't know how to prepare a game just to draw.

"In my experience, if you go to the pitch looking for the draw at the end you lose the game. I will prepare my team to win the game."

Brighton manager Chris Hughton told BBC Sussex: "Middlesbrough were probably the best side we played at home this season, but that was a while ago. It's all about timing.

"They've got the quality they've got. If we want to get a result on Saturday then we're going to have to play well."

Slowly but surely, Brighton have clawed their way back through the leagues and have been involved in the second-tier play-offs in two of the past three seasons.

They also have a recently-opened stadium fit to grace the Premier League.

The good old days are returning to Sussex by the Sea.

  20. 33 years of hurtpublished at 12:20 British Summer Time 7 May 2016

    Middlesbrough v Brighton (12:30 BST)

1983 - Margaret Thatcher was re-elected Prime Minister, television viewers were first introduced to Blackadder, and Brighton were relegated from the top division of English football.

It's been one hell of a journey for the Seagulls to get back to this point.

In 1997, they were without a permanent home following the sale of the Goldstone Ground and one defeat away from dropping out of the Football League altogether.
