Liverpool 1-0 Sevilla
So then...how many penalties should Liverpool had? None? One? Two? I'm going to stick my neck on the line and say I wasn't convinced by any of the shouts. Sorry Lawro...

Liverpool 1-0 Sevilla
Mark Lawrenson
Former Liverpool defender on BBC Radio 5 live
"Liverpool fully deserve to be in front. There is no doubt Liverpool should have had a penalty - you could argue two penalties. They scored a goal that would win a million games - it was that good. Kevin Gameiro has scored lots of goals - he couldn't have scored a goal like that. Liverpool need a second goal. They also need to play with their heads and their hearts together."

Nicholas Slad: And there is no place for Sturridge in England's expected starting 11... Hmmn???
Ricology: Dear Ref...it's called a handball foul. It's a penalty if inside the box!
Amit Lewinthal: Nathan Clyne the best player in the first half. Brilliant diffensively and offensively
Liverpool 1-0 Sevilla
Liverpool are halfway to the Champions League (and a gleaming piece of Europa League-branded silverware). Referee Jonas Eriksson toots his whistle sharpish, with Jurgen Klopp legging it towards the tunnel like Usain Bolt. Maybe he needs the gents.
Liverpool 1-0 Sevilla
Ooooh! Nathaniel Clyne pops up in space on the right of the Sevilla box (again), firing a low cross down the 'corridor of uncertainty' between keeper and defence. Daniel Sturridge and Roberto Firmino slide in, but can't connect. One boot size bigger would have done it...
Liverpool 1-0 Sevilla
Phil McNulty
BBC Sport chief football writer in Basel
"Poor old John Achterberg. Liverpool's goalkeeping coach was dancing in front of Jurgen Klopp when he thought Liverpool had scored a second when his celebrations were cut short - by Jurgen Klopp. Liverpool's manager gave him a good old shove back towards the dug out after breaking the bad news."

"Sevilla look a little bit rattled. Liverpool just need to kill the game. Another flare has gone off. It's a £20,000 [fine] per flare, isn't it? I reckon that's £120,000."
Liverpool 1-0 Sevilla
Sevilla back on the attack - and Liverpool invite the pressure on. Kolo Toure puts on his 50p head when he tries to deal with a Sevilla ball into the box, causing a brief moment of panic before Emre Can nods out for a corner. That comes to nothing and Liverpool spring forward again...
Liverpool 1-0 Sevilla
Less than five minutes until the break. And, boy, do Sevilla need it. Liverpool don't. Can they keep their foot on the gas and get another before half-time?

"The move that led to the goal started down the left - Liverpool's right. Nathaniel Clyne has had so much freedom. It's like he's got the width of the M1.
"Unai Emery might be a good manager but he hasn't spotted that Liverpool are dominating that flank."
Liverpool 1-0 Sevilla
Liverpool have the ball in the net again! But Daniel Sturridge is stood offside as Dejan Lovren's thumping header goes past his team-mate and into the bottom corner. Lovren tears off like Forrest Gump before the Liverpool fans stood in front of him break the bad news.
Liverpool 1-0 Sevilla
Liverpool are well on top now. Roared on by the Anfield, sorry, Basel crowd, the Reds pile forward again. Sevilla are edgy here. Adam Lallana has a pop, it hits the backside of Daniel Carrico and out for a corner...

"That was world class - absolutely fantastic. Daniel Sturridge was so quick, he had a quick look and bent it outside with his left foot. He is a match winner and he is arguably the only person on the pitch who could have done that."
Daniel Sturridge
Wow! Out of nothing Liverpool lead. And it is all down to a moment of brilliance from Daniel Sturridge.
Philippe Coutinho is finally involved, laying off to the Reds striker who takes a couple of touches on the edge of the box before bending into the far corner with the outside of his boot.
Stunning finish.

Neil T: Need to up the pace. Slow suits Sevilla. Gegenpress please. All over if we do
lfcway: Kolo outstanding so far! Solid.
John Nixon: Do Sevilla have to pick the stitches out of the ball to get handball called against them in the box?

Phil McNulty

"Liverpool fans a bit subdued. Philippe Coutinho is the man who makes things happen for them and he has barely touched the ball yet - need to get him involved as he is the player who can make the difference."
Liverpool 0-0 Sevilla
And here's why Dejan Lovren was keen to boot Kevin Gameiro. The Frenchman, who has bagged a hatful for Sevilla but will be sat watching Euro 2016 on his sofa like the rest of us, ambitiously tries an overhead inside a packed Liverpool penalty box. Just wide.

"It was a booking - no doubt. The daft thing is it's a cheap one. Dejan Lovren didn't need to foul him."
Liverpool 0-0 Sevilla
Referee Jonas Eriksson pulls his pencil out of his top pocket and takes the name of Dejan Lovren. The Liverpool defender is the first player in the book after scything down Kevin Gameiro on the touchline. A reducer.
