Well that coming together with Joey Barton seems to have got Jermaine Beckford going.

Now he directs a header towards goal but it's easy enough for Tom Heaton to gather.

Out of nothing, Jermaine Beckford does brilliantly holding the ball up top for Preston.

He lays in the advancing Daniel Johnson, but on his weaker right foot it's easy enough for Tom Heaton to palm away.

Joey Barton and Jermaine Beckford tangle after a free-kick but after a word from the referee they shake hands and are best friends again.

Brilliant drive into the box from goalscorer Joey Barton that nearly creates another chance.

The 33-year-old powers down the left and drills his low cross towards the edge of the six-yard box, but the white shirts of Preston eventually clear.

Just a reminder that if it stays like this, Burnley will move a point above Middlesbrough at the top of the Championship.

Scott Arfield picks up some scraps on the edge of the area and turns smartly. He opens up his body to try and curl it into the far post but just cannot get enough bend on it.

First time we've really seen Paul Gallagher able to run at the Burnley backline, but he's unable to find Joe Garner with his through ball.

He then concedes a free-kick trying to win the ball back.

Burnley burst into life again and the instinctive strike of Andre Gray very nearly catches out Chris Kirkland at the near post from the edge of the area - it's lucky to not come off Kirkland into the back of the net.

The Clarets keep the ball well and then George Boyd's 25-yard drive clips the top of the crossbar moments later!

You can see why Burnley are the highest scorers from set pieces in the Championship.

Again, Joey Barton's delivery is excellent but Wales international Sam Vokes cannot stretch his neck muscles enough to glance it on target.

Burnley, attacking in front of their own fans in this half, put some pressure on the Preston backline.

A delicious, curling cross finds Jermaine Beckford with the best of the two but from six yards out he glances his header over.

It's a fairly subdued start to the second-half, lacking the pre-match atmosphere.

I'm not sure Mr Barton had a say Martyn! However, he's the man who's made the difference so far tonight - albeit via a huge deflection.
