Did you know there are four Burnley players in the Championship team of the year? Well now you do.

We are of course heading into awards season in football.

  4. HALF-TIMEpublished at 45+2 mins

    Preston 0-1 Burnley

Joey Barton's deflected free-kick puts Burnley on top in this Lancashire derby, and on top of the Championship.

The Clarets have been the better side for the majority of that half but Preston's change of system gave them some joy.

Enjoyable half that, we'll be back with it when the action gets going again.

    Preston 0-1 Burnley

Well tempers beginning to bubble now.

Paul Gallagher's deep cross is aimed at the back post and Matthew Lowton and Joe Garner. They tussle when the ball comes over, when the ball goes out and test the strength of their respective shirts by giving each other a shove.

They both get a yellow card.

  6. YELLOW CARDpublished at 43 mins

    Preston 0-1 Burnley

This hasn't been a nasty game at all but Dean Marney's poor touch allows Joe Garner to reach the ball before him.

Marney's outstretched leg means his is the first man in the referee's notepad tonight.

  7. Preston 0-1 Burnleypublished at 42 mins

It looks as if Preston have reverted back to a 4-4-2 now and it has certainly helped.

Adam Reach wide left, Paul Gallagher wide right and as we predicted before the game.

Another sighter for Preston who have improved.

A clipped ball into the box is headed behind by Stephen Ward with players lurking behind him... Joe Garner gets free in the area but cannot direct his header towards goal.

Big, big penalty appeals from Preston.

Their most fluid move of the night reaches Jermaine Beckford, and as he is trying to control the ball Joey Barton barges into him but comes away with the ball.

Andrew Madley emphatically waves his hands to say no penalty under the Deepdale floodlights.

Andre Gray again a nuisance in the area, linking up smartly with Scott Arfield.

He twists and turns but his final touch is too heavy and it's out for a goal kick.

A couple of minutes relief from Preston.

The hosts have struggled to put any series of passes together so far, but Joe Garner takes a snapshot from 30 yards as soon as it falls to him that is blocked.

How have Burnley not made this two?

They work it down the left, George Boyd's skill sets up Scott Arfield whose shot is blocked, as is Andre Gray's effort when it falls to him.

Preston on the ropes at the minute.

  13. CLOSE!published at 30 mins

    Preston 0-1 Burnley

Another one time England man, Joey Barton, dinks in a free-kick which is met sweetly by centre-back Ben Mee inside the area.

It flies inches past the post.

  14. Preston 0-1 Burnleypublished at 28 mins

Joey Barton's free-kick is easily gathered this time by Chris Kirkland and by my count that's the first clean set-piece take from the one time England stopper.

He's in for his third start of the season after the injury to Anders Lindegaard.

  15. Preston 0-1 Burnleypublished at 27 mins

Instead of the four at the back, Preston have started with three centre-backs and Adam Reach the left wing-back and Calum Woods down the right.

Simon Grayson knows a lot more about formations than me, but on this evidence, Burnley have worked out this 3-5-2 system so far.

  16. Preston 0-1 Burnleypublished at 25 mins

There is no one more prolific than Andre Gray in the Championship this season with his 24 goals.

Alongside Sam Vokes they've notched 36 this campaign - can he add another tonight to his impressive ratio coming into this match?

    Preston 0-1 Burnley

Another long ball causing Preston problems.

As it bounces inside the box, Chris Kirkland prevents Sam Vokes from reaching it, but it falls to Dean Marney who is unable to shoot first time into the empty net.

The Clarets really look as if they're enjoying this.

  18. Preston 0-1 Burnleypublished at 20 mins

    All Burnley now.

They're doing brilliantly to work the wide space and get in crosses. No chances created but they have a corner... which Ben Mee heads straight at Chris Kirkland.

  19. Preston 0-1 Burnleypublished at 18 mins

A few confused faces in the Preston backline as Andre Gray somehow nips into the six-yard box from a free-kick but is unable to direct his glancing header goalwards.

In front of 5,500 of their own fans, Sean Dyche's Burnley couldn't be much happier with events so far.

Remember, if they win tonight, and twice more, they're promoted.

  20. Preston 0-1 Burnleypublished at 15 mins

After that spell of early Burnley pressure, Preston are responding.

Daniel Johnson's deep cross very nearly finds Jermaine Beckford and then it comes out to Paul Gallagher, but his shot is unable to get through a pile of Claret shirts.
