Summary

  • Bolton substitute Dobbie nets winner

  • Hull were assured of play-off spot

  • Bottom club Bolton already relegated

  1. Bolton 0-0 Hullpublished at 24 mins

Chuba Akpom flashes a header just wide for Hull City! Oh, how this game has flashed into life all of a sudden.

Ahmed Elmohamady was afforded far too much time on Hull's right side, and he takes his time to pick out Akpom. A fine effort to reach the ball first, but that has to be notched up as another missed opportunity.

  2. Bolton 0-0 Hullpublished at 21 mins

Great reaction save from Eldin Jakupovic to keep Bolton's Darren Pratley out from eight yards.

It was all on for the hosts, with Zach Clough's rebound blocked and Neil Danns firing wide.

  3. Bolton 0-0 Hullpublished at 19 mins

Hull's Isaac Hayden clips in a fine cross in from the right after breaking free. He finds Chuba Akpom in the box, but the ball is just a little too high. That was a real chance and came incredibly easy for them.

England Under-21 manager Gareth Southgate is keeping a close eye on proceedings at Bolton today.

Isaac Hayden and Chuba Akpom, who are both on loan at Hull from Arsenal, have featured in Southgate's recent squads.

  5. Bolton 0-0 Hullpublished at 18 mins

Hull with the game's first corner...

It's a low in-swinger that is easily dealt with by a Bolton defence that has conceded 80 goals this season.

"Comfortable" and "defence" are not words that have gone together at the Trotters in 2015-16.

  6. Bolton 0-0 Hullpublished at 14 mins

Isaac Hayden with a meaty challenge on Bolton's Zach Clough.

Notch that up as a notable moment as there is little in the way of serious attacking endeavour on this increasingly cold day at the Macron Stadium. Yep, it's early and I'm talking about the weather.

A few miles up the road from Bolton, neighbours Wigan are closing in on a return to the Championship, 12 months after being relegated from the second tier.

The Latics require one point from their final two games to be promoted. They are at relegation-threatened Blackpool today and I'll keep you up to date with their progress at Bloomfield Road.

  8. Bolton 0-0 Hullpublished at 10 mins

Bolton, cling to whatever hope you can in these tough times. This is a handy statistic.

In the 81 years since their Hull took maximum points at their place, the Trotters have won 11 and drawn six of their league games at home.

    So far, so good...

  9. Bolton 0-0 Hullpublished at 8 mins

Emile Heskey gets on the end of a Bolton free-kick inside the box.

However, the 38-year-old can do little with the ball with his back to goal. A flicked header is harmless.

The ball breaks and Hull race up the other end, but the Trotters defence scrambles to suffocate any impending danger.

  10. Bolton 0-0 Hullpublished at 6 mins

Patient and controlled build-up by Hull in these early minutes at the Macron Stadium.

That is also a clever way of saying "having lots of the ball without making any inroads".

  11. Bolton 0-0 Hullpublished at 2 mins

Lawrie Wilson, called into Bolton's starting side during the warm-up after Josh Vela pulled up injured, needed to be alert and clear the danger at the back post.

Hull looking, as you would expect, bright and in a rush to test this fragile Bolton side.

In case you missed it, Middlesbrough moved one point clear at the top of the table last night as they were held to a thrilling 2-2 draw at Birmingham.

But it could have been so much more - or less - for Aitor Karanka's side, in a Championship classic which had goalkeeping howlers, terrific goals, great saves, inexplicable misses, end-to-end action and one very controversially-disallowed goal.

Burnley and Brighton will both have the chance to leapfrog Boro when they play in Monday's games.

So it remains to be seen whether Middlesbrough - who play the Seagulls on the final day - will go on to view Friday's result as a point gained or two dropped.

  18. Ups and downspublished at 12:16 British Summer Time 30 April 2016

    Bolton v Hull (12:30 BST)

One side is looking up with great expectations, while the other looks down with a sense of anticipation of a new start.

In the context of the season, today's game at the Macron Stadium is a dead rubber - Bolton Wanderers are already relegated as the Championship's bottom side, while Hull City are going the long way round in their bid for promotion to the Premier League via the play-offs.

Still, Hull will be looking to go into the play-offs on an unbeaten run, which currently stands at five matches.

For Bolton, giving the home fans something to cheer in their last home game has to be the priority. As it stands, they are 14 games without victory.
