    Russia 0-1 Slovakia

Rather than raking the ball 30 yards, Marek Hamsik decides to dribble the ball this time and gets to the edge of the Russian penalty area before clipping his shot wayward. He's running the show is the Napoli man.

Russell Lelean: Great goal by Slovakia, simple ball over the top. Exactly the reason why Vardy should have been playing against Russia!

Nathan: Russia might not need to worry about that expulsion threat after all...

    Russia 0-1 Slovakia

A free-kick in a decent position down the left flank for Russia as Artem Dzyuba is brought down.

Oleg Shotov hits the first defender, gets it back, hits the last defender. If only he'd have got one more bite of the cherry.

"When Vladimir Weiss got the ball I was going to say that he needs help - and he got it. From the two Russian defenders..."

Just watching that Marek Hamsik pass over the top of the Russian defence again - if you gave me a fork and some gravy I'd eat it right up. The finish is decent, too.

    Russia 0-1 Slovakia

Oleg Shatov tries to get Russia moving with a tidy turn in the Slovak half but is hustled off the ball.

The Stade Pierre-Mauroy is not sold out but there's plenty of noise - probably helped by the closed roof.

Liam Keen: Get in! Great goal from Slovakia, now we need Russia to do what they did to us! But a Slovakia win is still fine for us.

Daniel Woods: Russia's right-back has been done like a kipper there, embarrassing. Slovakia to win 3-0 is my prediction.

    Mark Lawrenson
    BBC football expert

"It is a lovely ball, and a nice bit of work from Vladimir Weiss but what did we say about the Russian right-back? Attack minded? Defensively, oops.

"He's already the wrong side and then where is he going? All over the place."

"What a finish, and a great ball inside the full-back. Vladimir Weiss looked like he was going to take it on his left but cut inside and struck it sweetly on his right, brilliant."

GOAL - Russia 0-1 Slovakiapublished at 32 mins

    Vladimir Weiss

Remember that Russian right-back Igor Smolnikov we spoke of? He's nowhere to be seen as Marek Hamsik floats a wonderful ball down the Slovak left channel into the path of Vladimir Weiss, who cuts into the area and finishes smartly across the keeper.

We get a shot of Russia coach Leonid Slutsky on the bench - he's not a healthy looking chap. I'm not sure he should be putting himself through this high pressure situation.

His side are growing into this though and they're injecting a bit of pace into proceedings.

    Russia 0-0 Slovakia

    Mark Lawrenson
    BBC football expert

"Artem Dzyuba did brilliantly for Fedor Smolov, he opened up the centre of defence and Smolov just had a touch too many. But that was close. He didn't catch it really sweetly did he?"

Former England winger on BBC Radio 5 live

"Dzyuba's like a battering ram, he just moves players out of the way. It falls to Smolov and he just clips the outside of the post. A really nice shot as it just opened up in front of him."

This is as close as anyone's come.

Artem Dzyuba glides into an inside-left position and rolls across to his Russian team-mate Fedor Smolov, who has a go from 20 yards and it whistles just wide.

"Russia are showing their intent, their wing-backs are getting really far forward. Having Roman Neustadter holding in defensive midfield as well as he does allows you to do that.

"Slovakia are looking a bit lethargic, as if they're happy to give up possession."

  19. Postpublished at 14:25 British Summer Time 15 June 2016

    Russia 0-0 Slovakia

Talk about marauding full-backs... Look at how up the pitch the Russian pair have been playing! Left-back Georgy Schennikov (21) and right-back Igor Smolnikov (3) are bombing forward, keeping the Slovak wide men occupied defensively.

Igor Smolnikov, the Russian right-back, should be wearing a pair of Sonic's bright red trainers. He's getting forward at will and clips in a beauty of a cross that Artem Dzyuba stretches and gets a head to. It's easy for Matus Kozacik to claim - although his own defender Jan Durica almost pokes it out of his grasp.
