  1. Arsenal leave it latepublished at 14:28 British Summer Time 11 September 2016

    Arsenal 2-1 Southampton

They left it very late but Santi Cazorla's stoppage-time penalty gave Arsenal a dramatic victory over Southampton.

Saints had taken the lead when Petr Cech tipped a Dusan Tadic free-kick onto the underside of the bar but the ball bounced in off the Gunners keeper.

Laurent Koscielny equalised with a spectacular overhead kick after Cazorla's corner was not cleared.

Not bad for a centre-back, but Arsenal's strikers could not emulate him.

The hosts toiled in attack until Cazorla won it for them after Jose Fonte was judged to have fouled Olivier Giroud.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger said afterwards:"It is a relief, because we missed many chances and they had one or two opportunities with us having thrown everything forward."

After Kell Brook's defeat last night - which has still left him in credit - we are discussing those footballing defeats which still made you proud.

Yesterday I watched my side Ellistown & Ibstock Utd lose 13-0 to Bromsgrove Sporting in the FA Vase. Before the game we lost four players due to a car crash on way to game. We had a scratch side and our goalie was sent off on 22 mins. The team never gave up and I'm proud of them. The lads are all ok which is the most important stat.

  3. A tale of two Italianspublished at 14:26 British Summer Time 11 September 2016

    Swansea v Chelsea (16:00 BST)

    Dafydd Pritchard
BBC Sport Wales at the Liberty Stadium

It’s a tale of two Italians at the Liberty Stadium today, where Swansea City host unbeaten Chelsea.

The visitors’ manager, Antonio Conte, is aiming to become the fourth Chelsea boss to win his first four Premier League games in charge, joining Jose Mourinho, Guus Hiddink and Carlo Ancelotti.

By contrast, the Swans are staring at the prospect of suffering three successive defeats under Francesco Guidolin for the first time.

Chelsea are the clear favourites as they attempt to rejoin Manchester City at the top of the table – and history favours Conte too. In his seven Serie A meetings with Guidolin, the Chelsea manager won six and drew one.

  4. 'Rodgers has re-energised Celtic'published at 14:19 British Summer Time 11 September 2016

    Celtic 5-1 Rangers

    Brendan RodgersImage source, PA

Brendan Rodgers inherited a bloated and unfocused squad, a group of Celtic players who were not feeling particularly good about themselves at the end of last season despite being champions. He has added new players - two of them accounted for four of the goals - and has re-energised many others.

They have morphed into a domestic goal-scoring machine. On the day Celtic played Motherwell in the League Cup they were missing their go-to striker, Leigh Griffiths, and yet still scored five goals. On Saturday, Griffiths was missing again and once more they scored five.

  9. No Friend of ourspublished at 13:54 British Summer Time 11 September 2016

    Middlesbrough 1-2 Crystal Palace

Middlesbrough will be pretty disappointed by the way their unbeaten start to the season came to an end at home to Crystal Palace yesterday.

After Daniel Ayala cancelled out Christian Benteke's equally strong header, left-back George Friend dallied on the ball and Wilfried Zaha pounced.

His goal just after half-time turned out to the winner as Boro failed to make the most of a spirited second-half comeback.

"When you lose a game through mistakes it is difficult, but we have to think about the future and learn. We have to keep going," manager Aitor Karanka said.

Like Kell Brook in the ring, sometimes you can almost enjoy a defeat. Let us know your favourite defeats...

The Martin O'Neill team at Leicester. Our true spirit. We were 5-0 down with 18 minutes to go, and Martin instilled the Foxes' never quit and never say die attitude. We bring it back to 5-3. Blackburn on the ropes, we run out of time but I was so proud of the lads. We won the league cup and finished 9th

  12. 'Defending was comical'published at 13:43 British Summer Time 11 September 2016

    West Ham 2-4 Watford

    Alan Shearer
Ex-England captain on Match of the Day

Taking nothing away from Watford, who showed great character to come back, but the West Ham defending was comical.

For the second goal, just do anything with it. It is laughable defending. West Ham were all over the place. All in all, terrible, terrible defending. Watford were superb in coming back though.

On Dimitri Payet's rabona assist for Michail Antonio's second goal...

I’d have been on a stretcher with my hip trying to do something like that.

  13. Real classicpublished at 13:37 British Summer Time 11 September 2016

    Real Madrid 5-2 Osasuna

    Cristiano RonaldoImage source, AFP

Incidents galore at the Bernabeu as Real Madrid went top of La Liga - although Cristiano Ronaldo did his best to be the centre of attention.

The forward, playing his first game since suffering a knee injury while playing for Portugal in July's Euro 2016 final, took six minutes to score, tapping in Gareth Bale's cross.

From there, it all went a bit crazy. Real were 5-0 up by the 62nd minute, with three of their back four scoring - Danilo, Sergio Ramos and Pepe - before Luka Modric bent in a fifth.

Then Osasuna pulled two goals back and missed a penalty, before their full-back Tano Bonnin was sent off. Oh, and Real substitute Karim Benzema hit both the bar and the post. Throughout it all, the visitors' manager Enrique Martin kept on his suit jacket, even though it was sweltering. He must have ice for blood.

  14. Shock in La Ligapublished at 13:31 British Summer Time 11 September 2016

    Barcelona 1-2 Alaves

Barcelona paid heavily for taking their eye off the ball as they warmed up for Champions League action against Celtic by losing at home to Alaves.

Manager Luis Enrique started with Luis Suarez and Lionel Messi on the bench against last season's Segunda Division champions, making seven changes in total.

It proved a costly decision. Alaves soaked up pressure for most of the first half, then took the lead through Brazilian striker Deyverson.

Jeremy Mathieu equalised seconds after half-time, and then Messi came on. Problems solved? No. A Javier Mascherano error gave Ibai Gomez the chance to restore Alaves' lead - and the visitors held on for their first win at the Nou Camp since 2000.

  15. Chelsea fans happy with midfieldpublished at 13:25 British Summer Time 11 September 2016

    Swansea v Chelsea (16:00 BST)

We asked supporters of Premier League and Scottish Premiership clubs to use BBC Sport's team selector to tell us whether they were satisfied with their squad, via a simple tick or cross for each position.

    The results are in.

At Swansea, only one position found favour with 90% of fans, while seven scored below the 75% mark.

Midfield was seen as being Chelsea's strongest area, with an average in excess of 90% approval across all midfield positions.

    Bear with me.

Boxer Kell Brook was stopped by Gennady Golovkin in a right ding-dong at the O2 last night, but has come out of the defeat with a bucketful of praise. His career certainly won't be damaged. Unlike his eye socket.

But what I want to hear about are the defeats suffered by your team that still made you proud. Maybe you even enjoyed them more than a boring win, in a strange way.

Northampton Town may have won last season's League Two at a canter with 99 points, but my favourite ever game as a fan remains a defeat in the play-offs at Mansfield. It just had everything. A right rollercoaster of emotion.

  20. 'It can be frustrating'published at 13:06 British Summer Time 11 September 2016

    MOTD2 Extra

What is it like for you as a professional when the opposition showboat?

Hull City defender Curtis Daves: "If players are trying to take the mick you do get frustrated but that can work against you.

"The fact that Watford got two goals before half-time meant that the momentum shifted and that was the biggest thing."

Former Blackburn striker Chris Sutton: "Watford deserved to win the game - Troy Deeney scored a brilliant goal after a poor defensive error. The Watford players came out of the traps and it could've been more than four.

"I liked what Troy Deeney said and I like him as a character."
