Watford were inspired to fight back from 2-0 down to beat West Ham 4-2 by the fact they thought the Hammers were trying to embarrass them, according to striker Troy Deeney.

Dimitri Payet set up Michail Antonio's second goal in the 33rd minute with a rabona after Manuel Lanzini had tried to score with the same skill.

Watford fought back before the break thanks to Ighalo's deflected shot and a brilliant finish from Deeney after dreadful defending from the hosts.

Capoue scored his third goal of the season when a deep ball came to him at the back post and Holebas grabbed his first goal in English football with a shot from the edge of the area.

"As a player I though they were trying to mug us off a little bit," Deeney told BBC Radio 5 live.

"You can appreciate good skill and that was great skill for the second goal but as a professional you cannot allow someone to do that to you."

  3. Will Hull give Phelan the job?published at 12:54 British Summer Time 11 September 2016

    Burnley 1-1 Hull

Hull City defender Curtis Davies: "I expected it to go on beyond the transfer window but we have got players in now and I was hoping [signing Mike Phelan] would be done. I hope it gets done, he has been a breath of fresh air for us and we all as players want him to stay and sign.

"The longer he has not got a contract, there is a fear that other clubs might want him. If someone else came in and had to get used to how we play and who we are, it may be tougher.

"During the doom and gloom of the summer we were all worried but we have stuck together and we are enjoying it.

Former Blackburn striker Chris Sutton: "It is embarrassing. What more does he have to do to get the job?"

Hull City defender Curtis Daves: "We scored in Micky Phelan time! We conceded in the last minute against Manchester United but this week it went in our favour. We deserved at least a draw from the game.

"Robert Snodgrass was out for 15 months but it seems that now he's back he is showing how good he is, he scored a hat-trick for Scotland in midweek and is striving for more."

Former Blackburn striker Chris Sutton: "Snodgrass is a player I really rate highly. He is an intelligent player and if he had an extra yard of pace he would be playing for one of the big boys."

Can Liverpool secure a top-four finish this season?

Former Blackburn striker Chris Sutton: "They are brilliant to watch. They deserved to beat Tottenham as well. Adam Lallana is such an intelligent footballer but Liverpool didn't bring him in for his goals tally. They brought him to provide a link and slide a pass.

Hull City defender Curtis Davies: "We play Liverpool in two weeks. For me, Sadio Mane has stepped it up a notch and if they can keep Daniel Sturridge fit then he can open up the game. It's difficult to play against Liverpool when players are moving all over. They had 80% possession against Burnley. The way they play is quite entertaining but if you just sit there and stifle them then they can find it quite difficult."

  6. 'Leicester will finish top half of table'published at 12:48 British Summer Time 11 September 2016

    Liverpool 4-1 Leicester

    MOTD2

Former Blackburn striker Chris Sutton: "I don't think anyone really thought Leicester could do what they did last year. I think they will be top half of the table and that will be a successful season. They were far too open against Liverpool."

Hull defender Curtis Davies: "There is a big difficulty in adding to the squad - they have had to add qualify for the Champions League and if they sign a player who does not quite fit it in with their ethos is a min-failure.

"With the group they have got, they will see the Champions League, which starts for them on Wednesday, as a massive lift if they can do well in it. They have obviously not started the Premier League as they would like. It is tough for any side to retain the title - but especially so for Leicester."

    Burnley 1-1 Hull City

Burnley and Hull City was proving painful to watch before two top goals and late drama rescued some sort of excitement for onlookers.

A David Meyler shot had hit the post just before the break but chances and any goalmouth action was at a premium before Steven Defour scored a spectacular goal for Burnley.

He picked up the ball in his own half, ran at Hull's goal and scored with a 30-yarder into the bottom corner.

A Curtis Davies header struck the crossbar as Hull pressed for an equaliser, which finally came via Robert Snodgrass curling in a 95th minute free-kick.

"I've made it pretty clear I want to be in charge of this group of players. I think the players have made it quite clear too," said caretaker Hull boss Mike Phelan.

    Liverpool 4-1 Leicester

Liverpool marked their return to Anfield after a month on the road by giving Premier League champions Leicester a bit of a whooping yesterday.

The Reds won 4-1 in front of their highest home crowd since 1977, 54,000 after the expansion of their Main Stand was finally finished.

Roberto Firmino netted twice with Sadio Mane and Adam Lallana also notching.

Boss Jurgen Klopp joked after the game that Reds defender Lucas should have won man of the match for gifting the Foxes their goal to live things up.

  9. 'It was a red card'published at 12:41 British Summer Time 11 September 2016

    Man Utd 1-2 Man City

Should Man City keeper Claudio Bravo have been sent off for his strong tackle on Wayne Rooney?

Bravo had lost control of the ball after a heavy touch close to his own goal.

Hull defender Curtis Davies: “I think as a centre half if I have a heavy touch, take the ball towards the midfield and leap into a tackle like that it is a red card for me so why not for him? For me as a centre half it is a good tackle but the rules do say it is a red card.”

Former Blackburn striker Chris Sutton: “It was a penalty and it was a red card.”

I think Leicester might have to start shutting up shop - they play such an attacking game. Without N’Golo Kante, they can’t play like that. They don’t have that energy in midfield. I think over the next couple of weeks, they might make it tighter.

Pep Guardiola praised goalkeeper Claudio Bravo despite his difficult display at Old Trafford...

Hull City defender Curtis Davies: "Pep had to say what he did because he got rid of England's number one and such a big deal has been made of this 'footballing' goalkeeper.

"City more often than not will have 60% of possession and Cluadio Bravo won't have many saves to make. If he can play some key passes he will maybe win you more points than he loses."

Former Blackburn striker Chris Sutton: "It wasn't unlucky, it was rubbish goalkeeping. He was desperately poor, and he should have been sent off. It's all very well having a goalkeeper who is good on the ball, but you have to be able to catch it.

"If he keeps dropping crosses, Guardiola can't keep him in. Can he? You can't have a liability in your team."

Was Jose Mourinho outfoxed tactically by Pep Guardiola during Saturday's match at Old Trafford?

Former Blackburn striker Chris Sutton: "You could say that but Manchester City were absolutely superb. Manchester United players were picked off and it is still early days for Pep Guardiola. It was so impressive.

"Jose was clearly disappointed after because he dug his players out afterwards. He is obviously demanding more but his signings in the main have been exceptional."

Hull defender Curtis Davies: "You need to accept criticism from the manager in the dressing room. You'd rather know what you have done wrong so you can go and work on it. There is nothing worse than upsetting the manager. You'll know as a player whether you have put a shift in or not."

Hull City defender Curtis Davies: "I got to see 40 minutes on the team coach. I honestly thought Marcus Rashford would have started. He's shown he's not scared of these big games."

Former Blackburn striker Chris Sutton: "It was more than just three points for Manchester City. It was a statement. They totally dominated their biggest rival for 40 minutes. Manchester United were simply played off the park. Jose Mourinho got selection wrong. Marcus Rashford should have started. The turning point was the error by Claudio Bravo. If United had gone in 2-0 down, who knows what the score would have been."
