    Sunderland 0-3 Everton

It is a wonderful composed finish but dear, dear me. Look at the Sunderland back four. If you thought the first two were bad... he just runs through with the keeper to beat. I have sympathy for Sunderland keeper Jordan Pickford.

    Romelu Lukaku HAT-TRICK

Wow! From goal drought to an absolute flood.

Romelu Lukaku steers past Jordan Pickford left-footed for his hat-trick, but the defending was, you guessed it, AWFUL.

Papy Djilibodji goes AWOL to chase Gerard Deulofeu into midfield, abandons station. And when Kevin Mirallas pings a pass through Lukaku has all the space and time in the world.

Loads of Sunderland fans hit the exits...

  3. 'Koeman deserves praise'published at 21:27 British Summer Time 12 September 2016

    Sunderland 0-2 Everton

    Ally McCoist
Former Scotland striker on BBC Radio 5 live

Ronald Koeman deserves a smashing amount of praise. He's done two things. He's moved Yannick Bolasie to the left-hand side where he has been excellent and he's sent on Gerard Deulofeu who has made a real impact. Where are the Sunderland centre-backs?

  4. Postpublished at 70 mins

    Sunderland 0-2 Everton

Yannick Bolasie is ripping Sunderland asunder now. David Moyes looks tense on the bench. With good reason.

Can you see Sunderland scoring twice in the last 20 minutes?

  5. goal

GOAL - Sunderland 0-2 Evertonpublished at 68 mins

    Romelu Lukaku

Again, it's woeful defending from Sunderland. The centre-backs were clearing everything in the first half as Yannick Bolasie chucked cross after cross into the mixer but now they are all over the shop.

Bolasie does his man on the left wing and curls it over, and Romelu Lukaku is all alone behind a guilty-looking Lamine Kone to head into the roof of the net from four yards out.

    Help Jordan Pickford out...

Idrissa Gueye has been very good tonight. He didn't stand out - to me anyway - in a poor Villa team last season - but he's been superb here.

Geoff Ramm: Difference between Big Sam & Moyes....a few months ago we won 3-0. Tonight 0-1. It's going to be another looooong season.

Johnny Magrinho: Tell you what, that fella Idrissa Gueye looks a class act. Ran his socks off tonight and what an assist for Lukaku's header.

Evan Pritchard: Well that was too easy.

    Sunderland 0-1 Everton

This is a lively game now as Sunderland push men on and Everton look incredibly direct and dangerous on the break. Jermain Defoe wins a free-kick for the hosts in a good spot. Where's Seb Larsson when you need him? He's not on the bench.

  9. HITS THE WOODWORKpublished at 62 mins

    Sunderland 0-1 Everton

Romelu Lukaku now thwacks the crossbar! A goal has transformed him, from Bruce Banner into the Hulk. Sunderland can't lay a glove on him now, he breaks away from a defender in the penalty area, leans back and crunches a shot against the woodwork.

    What a strike!

  10. Where were Sunderland's defenders?published at 21:20 British Summer Time 12 September 2016

    Sunderland 0-1 Everton

We were speaking about how something always looks like it is going to happen when Romelu Lukaku is around. He's always in the centre of the goal positioning himself for a finish. He just rises and gets himself space at the back post. He puts a header into the ground to right-hand side of Jordan Pickford who had absolutely no chance. Sunderland's defenders were all over the place.

    Sunderland 0-1 Everton

Such a soft goal to concede in the end for Sunderland. Papy Djilobodji and Lamine Kone have headed everything out all night but they were nowhere to be seen there.

Everton smell panic in the Sunderland backline as Lukaku now rolls his man, takes a touch and it gets away from him and Idrissa Gueye blasts it over.

  12. goal

    Romelu Lukaku

All bad things come to an end! Everton do Sunderland on the counter attack as Gerard Deulofeu breaks up field from a Sunderland corner. He runs into trouble but Idrissa Gueye picks it up and chips to the far post, where Romelu Lukaku is totally free.

He heads down, and in. His first competitive Everton goal since March, a run of 1139 minutes...

Gee Em: Now I see why Everton wanted Lamine Kone. He is decent at the back, but wasn't the world searching for him in 2012?

What a chance. Romelu Lukaku probably should have done better. I cannot tell you how well Jordan Pickford did forcing Gerard Deulofeu to take a poor touch. I've been very impressed with Pickford.

  16. YELLOW CARDpublished at 55 mins

    Sunderland 0-0 Everton

Idrissa Gueye goes into the book for stopping Jack Rodwell taking a quick free-kick. A cheap booking.

  18. CLOSE!published at 54 mins

    Sunderland 0-0 Everton

Sunderland left looking - hoping - for a flag as Gerard Deulofeu bursts on to a long ball over the top. The Spaniard jinks inside after initially heading wide and has a shot blocked. It spits out to Seamus Coleman on the right of the area, he fires it in hard and low and a stretching Romelu Lukaku stabs it wide!

    Great chance.

There's a really good player in Adnan Januzaj somewhere isn't there? Lovely vision to pick out Jack Rodwell in oceans of space, he finds Jermain Defoe and his early shot is blocked by Ashley Williams. Williams, the bargain of the summer?

From the corner Lamine Kone heads straight at Maarten Stekelenburg.
