Wenger likes Coquelin and maybe he is sending a message to him saying 'I have got Xhaka, who is a tremendous player, but I have not forgotten about you.'

Hull City caretaker manager Mike Phelan: "There is a bit of belief now and hopefully we can cement our place outside the bottom area of the league.

"If you get in that area it can be difficult, so we have to be in the frame of mind that we can go to the next level.

"Arsenal are a fabulous team with a certain way of playing football and they challenge you all of the time in different areas of the field.

"We've conducted ourselves really well so far and we'll be up for this challenge."

Hull's only victory over Arsenal in 18 meetings since 1915 caused a huge stir eight years ago - but there'd be an even bigger reaction to another win now.

It would surely compel whoever is calling the shots at the Tigers to reach a quick agreement with Mike Phelan over his transition from 'caretaker' status to becoming the boss for real.

It would be a third win in five games to start the season - beating Phil Brown's three in six with that 2008 success.

It would also give more ammunition to the anti-Arsene Wenger Arsenal fans who bombard the radio phone-ins after every Gunners setback.

Ruridh 'Dr' Allen: Odds on a Santi Cazorla injury today? Ruling him out for four months and our title fight with it... Arsene Wenger has totally lost the plot.

Guv: I don't understand starting Alexis Sachez alone upfront when he's struggled in that role this season

Aaron Theaker: Once again Wenger gets the team wrong! Cazorla on the left or right instead of Theo Walcott.

Hull caretaker boss Mike Phelan, speaking before kick-off, on naming the same line-up for a fifth consecutive Premier League match: "I mentioned to the players during the week that it's important we stay together, and it's loyalty to them today.

"They have pushed on this season and they are being pushed by those players who arrived. It's going to be an open game. The players are ready for that challenge."

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger, speaking before kick-off, on his decision to keep faith with 20-year-old forward Alex Iwobi:  "He is a player that helps us build up a game and he did well in a difficult game during the week so deserves his place.

"It was between him and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain but on the left he's more comfortable. Hull will be confident, defend well but maybe a little less adventurous."

Arsene Wenger has been in charge of Arsenal since 1996 - that's 20 years of managerial highs and lows at the Gunners.

Mike Phelan, meanwhile, is approaching just his third month as caretaker manager of Hull City following Steve Bruce's decision to quit the club.

Arsenal supporters seem to be one poor result from turning on Wenger for the umpteenth time. A case of familiarity breeding contempt? Phelan is in the throes of a honeymoon period with Hull's fans, but the ire towards owner Assem Allam means they are far from a happy bunch at the moment.

Just another three Premier League points on offer in East Yorkshire. Just another opportunity to placate those restless supporters. Plenty of interesting subplots for today's clash at the KCOM Stadium then.
