Middlesbrough suffered their first Premier League defeat of the season last time out, losing 2-1 to Crystal Palace.

Boro had taken five points from their first three games before that, but head coach Aitor Karanka says his players know they will have to endure some tough days in the top flight.

"They know because they are not stupid and they know we are playing against the best teams in the world," said the Spaniard.

"We are in the Premier League and we are going to win, I hope, a lot of games. But we have to be ready because they know we are going to lose a few of them."

BBC Sport's Mark Lawrenson has predicted a 2-0 win for Everton over Middlesbrough today.

"Middlesbrough have still made a solid start to the season despite seeing their unbeaten run ended by Crystal Palace last week, but it is hard to see them getting anything at Goodison Park," he said.

Gareth Barry has been speaking to Football Focus about becoming the third player to make 600 Premier League appearances.

"As a young player you generally try not to get too far ahead of yourself so those sorts of targets were never in my head," said Barry, who made his debut as a 17-year-old for Aston Villa in 1998.

"There’s no big secret – I try to do the right things on and off the pitch, touch wood I’ve been lucky with injuries and I’ve had managers who’ve believed in me.

"You need to take a bit out of every manager. I’ve tried to because they’re all different. Martin O’Neill deserves a lot of credit – he made the decision to move me into the centre of midfield and from there I’ve never looked back."

Former Everton winger Kevin Kilbane and ex-Blackburn striker Jason Roberts were discussing Gareth Barry's milestone on Football Focus a little earlier today...

Kilbane: "He’s started this season magnificently and he’s immense for Everton. He’s the gel that keeps them together."

Roberts: "He’s such an unselfish player as well. The reason people don’t talk about him in the manner they perhaps should is because he’s happy to do the work that people don’t notice. His influence to the team is much more than the sum of its parts."
