It's about quality isn't it? Slovakia have had it in the key moments of the match. Scotland lack quality, both in defence and attack.

Return of the Mak to surely end Scotland's qualification hopes, even after only three games. Defensively we were carved open too easily and, like the first goal, lots of Scotland players were inside the box, none of them able to stop Holubek's cutback or Robert Mak's cool and clinical finish.

    Slovakia 2-0 Scotland

Scotland give the ball away deep in their own half and Robert Mak fancies a hat-trick, drilling a fierce angled strike that David Marshall needs to tip away.

A mountain to climb for Scotland now...

Marek Hamsik stabs a pass in behind the Scotland defence and Jacub Holubek runs on to it to slip a low ball in from the left. Robert Mak takes a touch and shows lovely composure to leave Russell Martin on his backside before slotting past David Marshall.

Another Scotland corner. Yet again, it come to nothing as the goalkeeper clutches it confidently.

How long before Scotland make a change here? We could do with some pace out wide.

    Slovakia 1-0 Scotland

Play is being stretched now as the Scotland defence scrambles clear a low, fizzing pass from Marek Hamsik. The visitors immediately launch a counter-attack but there is a real lack of pace in Gordon Strachan's side.

    Slovakia 1-0 Scotland

Scotland are looking a lot more aggressive in the early moments of this second half as they force a corner but Matt Ritchie's delivery is cleared without much fuss.

    Slovakia 1-0 Scotland

Get the big men up. Callum Paterson shells a long throw-in into the Slovakia penalty box but the ref's whistle sounds straight away for some pushing and the ball hit Grant Hanley's hand anyway.

Watching replays of the game's only goal...

Shocking: A blatant foul by Jan Durica on Steven Fletcher that wasn't given just outside the Slovakian penalty box. Also shocking: nine pink shirts, Fletcher aside, were inside the Scotland box and no-one near either Marek Hamsik, whose header was pushed out by David Marshall, or Robert Mak who gleefully thumped the loose ball into the net.

Jasmin Kurtic hit the post for Slovenia against England and it's goalless at the break, with the visitors and group leaders on course to remain unbeaten.

  18. No need for alarm - yetpublished at 20:39 British Summer Time 11 October 2016

    HT: Slovakia 1-0 Scotland

Scotland assistant manager Mark McGhee left his seat high in the main stand with a couple of minutes of the first-half remaining. He wore a look of grim determination, with the visitors having been the more accomplished and composed side in all but the critical aspect of the game - creating and scoring.

Scotland's passing has mostly been crisp and accurate, the players' work off the ball has been diligent, and the result has been a good performance. Yet in the final third there has been a lack of conviction and shrewdness, whereas Slovakia have scored once and demanded two fine saves from goalkeeper David Marshall.

Gordon Strachan's side has come back from conceding goals to Malta and Lithuania in their previous games in the group, so there is no need for alarm, but greater composure around the penalty area will be required to rescue this scoreline.

  20. Frustration for Scotspublished at 20:35 British Summer Time 11 October 2016

    HT: Slovakia 1-0 Scotland

    Rob Maclean
    BBC Scotland

A frustrating first half for Scotland. Bags of the ball but not enough chances to score. Slovakia happy for long stretches to give Scotland possession and display their superior cutting edge on the counter-attack. We needed a great save from David Marshall to stop Robert Mak making it a double.
