    San Marino 0-1 Northern Ireland

Almost a second goal and Aldo Simoncini - who has been excellent in San Marino's goal - denies Chris Brunt.

"It's just like watching Brazil," chant the green and white army. Not sure that's such a compliment these days after that 7-1 Germany debacle.

Josh Magennis has another shot on target now, although it's a bouncer easily saved by Aldo Simoncini.

  3. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 21:13 British Summer Time 1 September 2017

    Malta 0-1 England

Second change for England as Dele Alli is replaced by Jamie Vardy.

A positive change, with Gareth Southgate's side having failed to kick on after going ahead.

Joe Hart is on course to keep his first clean sheet of the season. He still hasn't had a shot to make although Malta have had a couple of near misses.

    Just over 20 minutes remaining.

GOAL - San Marino 0-1 Northern Irelandpublished at 21:11 British Summer Time 1 September 2017

    Josh Magennis (70 mins)

THE BREAKTHROUGH. Chris Brunt crosses and Josh Magennis heads straight at the keeper. It looks as if maybe the goal is never going to come. But Steven Davis crosses the ball back to the Charlton striker, who finally scores from close range.

Who would have thought Northern Ireland's first goal in San Marino would be met with such relief?

It's all gone a bit flat. I think Gareth Southgate needs to introduce someone, maybe Jermain Defoe or Jamie Vardy, to give them some fresh impetus and an injection of energy.

Malta have seen a touch more of the ball in this half with England's possession percentage having dropped from 78% to 75.4%. They have certainly been a bit more adventurous since falling behind.

    San Marino 0-0 Northern Ireland

A quickly taken free-kick catches the hosts out but Steven Davis shoots straight at the keeper. There are 23 minutes left.

San Marino defender Juri Biordi is booked - and immediately replaced by Fabio Vitaioli.

  12. DISALLOWED GOALpublished at 21:07 British Summer Time 1 September 2017

    San Marino 0-0 Northern Ireland

Keepers are always well protected by the officials and that's the case here. Aldo Simoncini flaps at a corner, with Josh Magennis barely touching him. Jonny Evans turns the ball home but the referee has given a free-kick for that minimal contact.

I've made more contact while standing in a supermarket queue.

    Malta 0-1 England

England could really do with another goal, not just to keep us entertained but to avoid Malta getting back into this one.

A good move by the hosts ends with Stephen Pisani onside and inside the box, but Gary Cahill defends well to block his attempted cutback.

  14. Postpublished at 21:05 British Summer Time 1 September 2017

    San Marino 0-0 Northern Ireland

Steven Davis takes a free-kick from wide left, it's punched over the bar easily by Aldo Simoncini. That's their second shot on target.

  15. YELLOW CARDpublished at 21:04 British Summer Time 1 September 2017

    San Marino 0-0 Northern Ireland

Zoom. Away goes speedy Conor Washington, who slips under pressure from Davide Simoncini. The San Marino captain is booked. A bit harsh maybe.

  16. Postpublished at 21:04 British Summer Time 1 September 2017

Harry Kane attempts to grab his and England's second with a fierce drive from distance. The shot is well hit but Andrew Hogg is behind it and thumps the ball away.

Roy: Very frustrating. San Marino have 13 men behind the ball. Even the referee has tucked in at left back.

  19. TIME TO PANICpublished at 21:02 British Summer Time 1 September 2017

    San Marino 0-0 Northern Ireland

I said I'd give you a time to panic alert at 60 minutes if it was still goalless. I'm a man of my word.

At 75 minutes, if it's still 0-0, you'll get a time to really panic one.

England manager Gareth Southgate looks a lot calmer now. Just before the goal he was involved in several discussions with assistant Steve Holland, but Holland has now sat back down on the bench.
