    England v Slovakia (19:45 BST)

England make two changes from the 4-0 win in Malta, both of which were hinted at by Gareth Southgate in the build up to this game. Tottenham's Eric Dier is back from suspension and replaces Jake Livermore in midfield. Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford starts in place of Raheem Sterling, having come on as a half-time substitute in Friday's game.

  4. Will Slovakia be offensive?published at 18:41 British Summer Time 4 September 2017

What could play a large part in proceedings tonight is how Slovakia approach this match.

This is the third time England have played them in the space of 15 months.

In St Etienne, at Euro 2016, Slovakia put up a highly effective defensive display and it finished 0-0. A year ago to the day in Trnava, in the opening match in this qualifying group for these teams, I watched another defensive display by Slovakia which became even more so when Martin Skrtel was sent off with over half an hour to go. England's Adam Lallana eventually scored the only goal of the match in the fifth minute of added time.

Tonight, the question is whether Slovakia will be prepared to be more offensive and take the game to England because to replace them at the top of the group, they will have to win the match.

Gareth Southgate wants Wembley to be excited by England tonight.

So when was the last time you were excited by an England performance?

My first instinct was to say Euro 96 but I forgot about the 5-1 win in Germany.

They must have had some decent performances more recently than that though?

  6. We can excite Wembley...published at 18:38 British Summer Time 4 September 2017

    England v Slovakia (19:45 BST)

Gareth Southgate is keen for his England players to excite the Wembley crowd tonight.

England were underwhelming in Malta on Friday when three late goals gave them a flattering 4-0 victory.

They lead Group F by two points and a win over second-placed Slovakia will leave them on the cusp of qualifying for next summer's finals in Russia.

"We have some exciting players and we want to show that," said Southgate.

"We have a responsibility to get the Wembley crowd on their feet but equally, everywhere we go in the world the home crowd give the team a lift. It will be great if we can get the level of support that stadium can bring.

"The whole country wants to be at the World Cup. It is a great opportunity for us.

"We are playing good opposition so we have to make sure we are tactically prepared, which we will be, but also have belief in the team we have got."

A 3-0 win in Lithuania on Friday means that Scotland are right back in the hunt for a place in the play-offs in Group F.

It will be 20 years next year since the Scots reached a World Cup finals. Is this the time to end the drought?

  8. NI can seal second spot tonightpublished at 18:34 British Summer Time 4 September 2017

Northern Ireland v Czech Republic (19:45 BST)

Northern Ireland can clinch a top-two place if they draw with, or beat, the Czech Republic at Windsor Park.

Second place will *probably* get you in the play-offs, but of the nine group runners-up, the team to get the lowest amount of points in their group (excluding games with the team who finish bottom) miss out. At the moment NI would qualify for the play-offs from that table of second-placed teams.

However, if NI lose tonight, then things might get a bit nervy. Their lead over the Czechs would be four points, meaning they will need to beat Germany or Norway next month to make sure.

The Czechs face Azerbaijan and San Marino (which could help bridge that goal difference), so will fancy their chances of maximum points.
